Archive: 28 posts

Hiii. I noticed that instead of having a green bar under my avatar i have a red one. I don't know what i did to make it red but i think i must have broken a rule or something?2010-02-14 07:03:00

Check the faq here: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/faq.php?faq=vb3_user_profile#faq_vb3_reputation

It would seem that somebody (or maybe multiple somebodies) didn't approve of something you posted. Perhaps you were off topic or were hi-jacking a thread, or maybe you said something that people just didn't feel was particularly useful or relevant (jumping into threads with a "me too" type of comment isn't generally popular).

It will be listed in your user control panel, but I have yet to figure out how to navigate it. I always have to find the links in the faq (I couldn't figure out how to set my avatar from the cp: had to click the link in the faq). You can click the red "User CP" link in the section of the faq that I linked to in the first paragraph and you should be able to see what posts you got negative reputation on.

Yeah if you find the post you were given neg rep on you could find out maybe something you did there that someone didn't approve of. If you think you didn't do anything then there's always the possibility of some silly person neg repping for fun. but that doesen't happen often so... yeah. 2010-02-14 11:14:00

Best way to get positive points around here is to generally be helpful in threads. Participating in F4F or simply offering a review for someone's level is sure to get you a thanks or two in return, which adds to your rep.2010-02-14 20:12:00

Well my log says there is more positive rep than negative, why is my bar still red?2010-02-15 21:11:00

Looks like you're already making progress. Your little dot looks neutral now. Hope it works out well for you (and thanks for adding to my rep).

It may not be a 1:1 rate. I would think that it's easier to get positive points than negative, so maybe the negative ones are weighted more. I can't speak for all the people who have given you negative rep, but I would guess it has something to do with the way pop into pretty much every thread and give responses that are either completely unhelpful or you don't know what you're talking about. I'm sorry if that sounds mean: I mean it in the best way possible.

Me bring this old tread to life!

See, now this is an example of the kind of posting that will get you negative rep. Did you bring it back because you were being obnoxious and you know that nobody likes it when you bump old threads (especially threads that are over a year old) or was it because you wanted to know the answer to the same question he was asking? It's impossible to tell from your comment, but it certainly comes across as being obnoxious. If you're not trying to be obnoxious, then you should clarify, though you'd probably be better off starting a new thread or just looking it up on gamefaqs.

You said that you're not a patient person and that's why you're so short in your statements. The problem is that they're sometimes difficult to make sense of. Brevity is the soul of wit (obviously I'm not very witty), but it only works if you manage to convey your point/opinion adequately. Sometimes, because your statements are difficult to interpret, they come across like some kid who has no idea what he's talking about just babbling whatever comes to mind (maybe that's the case: I don't know).

I would suggest avoiding commenting unless you have something to add to the conversation: a suggestion that could be helpful, or a question that pertains to the matter at hand (your post in this thread is a good example: it's a legitimate question and it relates to the subject). It would also help if you read the whole thread. When you come in later in a conversation, it's often taken a new direction and then you just respond to the first post: it again comes across as not knowing what you're talking about.

So to be brief (and witty) read the whole thread, and only comment if you have something useful to say.

It's weighted.

Your "rep power", or your number, determines how much rep you give.

for example, if someone has 1000 rep power, if they rep or negative rep you, itgives or takes away more then someone with 500 rep power.

The thanks button always gives one rep no matter what your rep power is though...

and meyep, there. That is why you have negative rep mathematically speaking. But there's other reasons... ;-;

Rock, that is not entirely true. The power thing is just about right, but your "rep power" stays the same regardless of what the rep of the other person is. For example, if you or I give or take rep, there will be about a 20 point swing. Period. If a "thread" gives rep, it won't do anything.

But yes... thanks is always +1.

Is it possible to gain negative rep by being offline for a few weeks? Or does that have nothing to do with it?2010-02-16 09:00:00

You won't gain Negative Rep, Simply for being offline, If you make an offensive post beforehand then you will.2010-02-16 10:31:00

Oh, really? I thought it was equivalent. Hmmmm, must consider whether to leave rep or thanks in future now as that's a major difference. Your post only deserves a thanks though

This is a bit off topic but it didn't seem worth creating a new thread. Is it possible to retract reputation after you've given it? If you were to neg somebody and then realize that you didn't fully understand their point or that maybe you were a bit hasty, can it be undone? I know you can undo thanks, but how about rep?2010-02-18 02:07:00

Not by you... On one occasion I asked CC to remove negative rep from someone and he did it for me... You could try asking him.

Or maybe mods here can edit rep, I don't know. that depends on what CC hooked the forum up to.

In any case, the only real way to delete rep would be to pm CC and tell him from who you would want to delete the rep from and why and all that. I don't know if he'd do it again, but that's the only way.

Still, even if he doesn't, i'm sure Emo up there (is that who you mean? Or someone else?) would appreciate you changing your mind at least... or so I think ;o.

It was a hypothetical question. I haven't used the negative rep (or positive for that matter) very much, but the discussion got me thinking about it.2010-02-18 03:43:00

I use both the "thanks" and rep options. Ill use thanks when someone does something such as answering my question or saying something nice. I use rep when somebody says something i dont like, and when somebody says something i like, whether its just a good post or i just agree. But apparently my rep doesnt count for much 2010-02-21 00:18:00

How do you check? And that is pretty neat indeed it could get me a new shiny rep bar. I'm not hinting anything by the way lol... just saying...

and i have something to say,
think about the post in every perspective you can, because you can hurt someones feelings. small things like sorry, no offence does not get you off the hook to the bad thing you are about to say or said. even the smallest thing can get someone sad.
and just trust me, please. i allways get the "no offence, but you are not smart" and knows what it feels like.

EDIT: to Emogotsaone, That is good step. but rember "its easyer to say it then to do it"

Ask someone to count their rep beforehand and then rep them and ask them the new total, then work out the difference
