Did the plasma glitch get patched?
Archive: 29 posts
So I'm trying to plasmafy an object, and then there's another one that I want sackboy to be able to walk through. Both of these use the same glitch: make it a creature with vulnerable brain and kill it with a hazard (to plasmafy an object, you use a plasma ball as the hazard). So I run through the steps and pause the game. I've got a plasmafied led that will disappear the instant I unpause. So far so good. Now, if I remember right, you have to capture it and run it through an emitter to keep it from disappearing but that doesn't work. I've copied/pasted, captured both the original and pasted ones, run them through emitters, recapture and copy/paste the emitted one, run it through another emitter. Nothing seems to work: it just keeps disappearing. Every time I've asked about the glitch I get the same instructions, but I can't seem to make it work. Can anybody verify if the glitch still works and if so, any idea what I'm doing wrong? | 2010-02-12 21:16:00 Author: Sehven Posts: 2188 |
Did you accidentally set your emitter to emit the object with a lifespan instead of infinite? BTW, I've got a plasmified cube if that helps, but it sounds like you need an LED. | 2010-02-12 21:19:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
It should still work I think. Not sure what you mean by plasmafied led though. Is the object you are trying to save plasmafied ? and are you putting it through an emitter set to infinite life ? Also when you run the creature into the plasma make sure it hits the leg and that the brain has disappeared so you only capture the plasmafied object you want to keep. | 2010-02-12 21:21:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
I tried to be clear in the first post that I had done everything correctly, but I guess I didn't get into specifics. Yes, the emitter's lifetime is infinite. Yes, I killed it at the leg with a plasma ball. I've got a captured purple plasma led, but I can't keep it from disappearing no matter what I do. I'm using an led 'cause it makes the plasma change to the color of the led (blue led=blue plasma / any material=white plasma). I could use a plasma ball itself for what I'm trying to do, but I need it to fit in a thin layer: hence the led. I pulled off this glitch before, way back shortly after it was first discovered, and I had no problems with it then (but didn't need it for anything then either). Now that I actually have use for it, I can't get it to work. | 2010-02-12 21:30:00 Author: Sehven Posts: 2188 |
I tried it too, and failed... I wonder why MM "fixes" those things as they actually are good for the game. :-( | 2010-02-13 20:48:00 Author: aphexZero Posts: 37 |
Yeh its fixed. i tried it like a month ago and it failed again and again. | 2010-02-13 21:07:00 Author: Smelling-Cowboy Posts: 668 |
I wonder why MM "fixes" those things as they actually are good for the game. :-( Because they aren't good for the game? Thats pretty Obvious... | 2010-02-13 21:31:00 Author: Kern Posts: 5078 |
Why aren't they good for the game? | 2010-02-13 23:07:00 Author: aphexZero Posts: 37 |
Well, it's probably a good thing anyway. Without the plasma glitch, I had to find another way to get the effect I wanted and it came out looking awesome--way better than it would've with plasma. | 2010-02-13 23:22:00 Author: Sehven Posts: 2188 |
So how? ;-) | 2010-02-13 23:43:00 Author: aphexZero Posts: 37 |
Why aren't they good for the game? A Glitch = Problem in the game code, which could affect pretty much anything related to it... | 2010-02-13 23:52:00 Author: Kern Posts: 5078 |
Yes smarty! I don't know any official level that is affected by this. There isn't even the smallest chance to crash a level with this glitch. | 2010-02-14 01:23:00 Author: aphexZero Posts: 37 |
@ Sehven : It's probably just a case of it not working with led's. You do know don't you that you can change the colour of plasma balls anyway without using an led. You can tweak it same as you can the colour of gas. By the way if the plasma glitch did bad stuff I don't think my PLASMAVILLE level would have lasted this long without breaking. Check that out ( shameless plug sorry ) and see what I mean. | 2010-02-14 01:27:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |

I could use a plasma ball itself for what I'm trying to do, but I need it to fit in a thin layer: hence the led. So how? ;-) How'd I get the effect? I zoomed way in on an led the color I wanted to use and took a picture, slapped that on the object (it's an energy ball type thing), embedded half a dozen tiny tiny leds in the object, and then hooked them to a some speed mag switches controlled by a spinning wheel with a key. Now it glows (pictures of led's have a light bloom effect when you shine light on them) and it looks like the light is moving around the surface. I wasn't expecting it to work that well, but it was really the only thing I could come up with in lieu of the plasma glitch, and it came out looking great. | 2010-02-14 04:49:00 Author: Sehven Posts: 2188 |
I didn't say it would crash levels, I meant it could damage the game some other way, like the cow glitch was extremely helpful, yet It got patched because it would damage the game. The 3D Glitch however, isn't an error in the code, it's some left over code, @MisterV what about your lag? | 2010-02-14 08:42:00 Author: Kern Posts: 5078 |
So, the final product turns out to be a plasma object? | 2010-02-15 21:38:00 Author: Emogotsaone Posts: 1030 |
It did, It doesn't now, You would have to find someone with the glitch in their popits | 2010-02-15 21:48:00 Author: Kern Posts: 5078 |

s. There isn't even the smallest chance to crash a level with this glitch. Well as Kernel said, it could damage the game. For all we know the cow glitch could have caused some serious form of cancer. >_> | 2010-02-16 09:20:00 Author: srgt_poptart Posts: 425 |
I have a plasmified cube of material saved to my poppit. If anyone needs it then feel welcome to send a me PSN request. | 2010-02-16 09:51:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
@ KernelM : Touchwood but the lag hasn't been so bad since the last big update. I still get lots in online create but on my own and playing leves in multiplayer is a lot better. I'll probably get horrendous lag all day now !! By the way I still have a plasma cube and circle if anyone wants to come and capture them. Infact I could take you into edit mode in the PLASMAVILLE level and you could capture anything in there that's plasmafied if you want. Just PM me on here and add me on PSN if you're interested. | 2010-02-16 13:37:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
Are the ones you guys have editable? Were they ever editable...? I have never tried to work with them before. But after seeing it in Ungreth's Tenement, it looked kinda cool. I'm sorry to say that I have never played your Plasmaville Level, MisterV. I think you released that when I was out of town for two weeks, and never remembered to play it when I got back... | 2010-02-16 14:12:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |

Are the ones you guys have editable? Do you have some that hasn't been material changed yet? (meaning sackboy can still pass through it) | 2010-02-16 15:03:00 Author: Sehven Posts: 2188 |
Are the ones you guys have editable? Do you have some that hasn't been material changed yet? (meaning sackboy can still pass through it) Mine is editable but solid, so it can't be passed through. | 2010-02-16 17:43:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
Same here. Mine's editable but solid too. Although for some reason the exact same things I put as prizes in the level aren't editable when you collect them, even for me. Weird. Hence the need to capture them directly. At least I think that should work. | 2010-02-16 18:54:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
I think I have a non-solid block somewhere in my captured crap...and somewhere in my many many unnamed levels is the one I had the original block in...so...yeah. | 2010-02-16 18:58:00 Author: ARD Posts: 4291 |
If you do manually capture increate mode, it becomes unspreadable, but corner editable | 2010-02-16 19:25:00 Author: Kern Posts: 5078 |
