Sackboy Proves He's Got Stuffin'Ungreth
http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/1931/diner2p.jpgListen up sack! People 'round here been sayin' you ain't no stuffin'! They been sayin' you ain't never gonna get with Sally Jean until you prove you got stuffin'! Whats that? You think got stuffin?

Then prove it. Get out there and win that street race!
This one's just a quickie for lols. Shouldn't take you more than 60 seconds to complete this race, but I'm hoping you'll appreciate the satire (and the lush visuals).

In fact the Ungreth train will be making it's last stop for humour before it stops at the tenement tomorrow, at which point things are likely to turn very unpleasant, everyone stops laughing and I spend the next decade hiding out in the hills.

But first things first...you need prove you got stuffin'. Well go on then, what are you waiting for?

PS: Don't even think about taking a peek up Sally Jeans skirt, like a certain forum user already did. Yes, you know who you are!

Ok, this is the 2nd post I've ever made in a thread where the post took longer to write than it took to play the level.... the first time this happened was Cat vs Jaguar.... however, this level was MUCH better!

Ok, so here's the minute by minute:

Cool, Ungreth has a new level. I really enjoy his content.... I need to check this out right away!
Well - that's a nice beginning! Beautiful 50's style diner. He really is talented with the visuals!
Oooohhh - nice rides! And some of the trademark well-written Ungreth narrative. Nice! He really got the environment down. Ok, let's see what this car can do!
Nice start of the race! Cool, I'm pulling ahead! Passing by some REALLY nice scenery... wow.
..
..
Hey.... what just happened???? Brilliant!!!!!!!! Honey, come see this!

Great job - 5 stars and a heart! Best laugh I've had today.

Yeah, I've won the race ! :hero: I've managed to overtake the pink car...And I was walking, what a lazy *** !

It was good, but too short ! Anyway, I loved how you made characters. The waiter, the bad guy, the pretty girl

Anyway, I think I've found a kind of glitch : I survived And the snack bar got hit :arg:

I did anticipate people trying to escape the trap on second play, but I didn't worry to much as the scenario you described is quite amusing in itself. I'm thinking I might rig the diner too.

Anyway, thanks to all who played so far, I'm glad you all had lolz. Sadly the level is currently carrying a "rubbish" label, so I guess opinion is divided and some people just didn't get or appreciate the joke. Although, I have a suspicion that some aggressive creator out there is automatically tagging all new levels as "rubbish", since it happens to me every time. On the other hand, maybe my levels are actually just rubbish.

Hmm...anyone feel like being brutally honest with me?

Opinion: Not rubbish at all. But to be brutally honest... I think 90% of the players out there are not smart enough to have developed a decent sense of humor. Being clever or ironic is simply lost on them.....

Kind of like watching a Mony Python film and having the person you're with say "Ummm... I don't get it. His arms off, he's obviously hurt, but he's acting like nothings wrong.... this movie is stupid!"

Agree with CCubbage completely. I thought it was funny as heck but I have a twisted sense of humor.

Love the jukebox! VR material looked amazing. I did find myself wanting a "smart" alternative... like a way to win sort of but then the joke becomes sort of a punishment I guess.

Brutally honest feedback would be make it longer and a little bit of mayhem after the "joke" before the final scene would be cool too. But it is what it is and I liked it

Thank you, I genuinely appreciate a bit of brutal honesty. I can't really have more mayhem after the joke, since sackboy regenerates at the checkpoint about three seconds after dying. I could delay the event a little to extend the drive time and include more background scenery though. There are also a couple of eastereggs to be discovered in the diner section...anyone found them yet?

Wow, not at all, I haven't noticed any eggs  I was too busy staring the waiter's figure, I mean, I just love how you made your characters. Well I'll have a look one more time

I think some boring people have been taking it at face value and just say " Baaahhhh, that wuz short, that wuz borin, that wuz easy, that suxxx " . I didn't play it that way, I had fun.

Oh, and by the way, I don't think at all your other levels are rubbish , I've also played two of them (your series), and I really liked it, it was clever, fresh, artistic.

Haha! This one makes me laugh! I love unexpected things...

I like the fact that a LBP level is not always meant to be a regular gameplay/platforming level,
and that we can create this kind of short 'joke" level...

And as it's very well done here (visuals , characters, animation), how is it possible to not enjoyed it...?!

Brilliant level - very funny!

Loved all the details in the diner. My favourite bit was the jukebox which actually plays different music if you grab it- so cool!

Thanks for a unique LBP experience !

It was short but funny. You said you were going to rig the dinner to get destroyed? If you did that I'd change the cars control to 3way switch so you can try and escape 2010-02-14 22:01:00

I don't know if anyones played the level again and already noticed this, but since publishing I have now extended the race a little to show more background scenery, including a motel and strip joint. There's still a bit of space to include even more stuff in the background though, so I'm open to sugestions if anyone has any...2010-02-17 21:07:00

I played this and it was great XD. Being a vehicle fanatic, I especially love the old-fashioned cars. I just wish they accelerated instead of starting up full-speed. And maybe the two cars take turns being in front and behind of each other for dramatic effect?2010-02-17 21:10:00

Um...you're right, but I'm not sure I could pull it off. Sounds like that would take some complex logic.

rtm!?

Not too hard. Have a wheel attached to a piece of dark matter by a spin bolt. Place mag keys on the wheel. Put a mag switch on a separate piece of material attached to a piston and set the mag switch to speed. Have the piston extend when the player grabs the car, thus moving the mag switch closer to the spinning wheel - thus making the car speed up and down a bit instead of going at a constant speed. For each car, the wheels can alternate keys so they both speed up/slow down at different intervals. The sensitivity can be adjusted by increasing the radius of the mag switches.2010-02-18 04:00:00

Ok,I'll have a crack at it this evening. Do you need two mag-wheels, one for each car? Or one wheel, two pistons?

It depends on what you're trying to accomplish. You COULD have the opposing car speed up and slow down only, and leave the players car alone. But the technique is to just have a speed switch controlling the speed of the car by having the mag keys different distances from the mag switch.2010-02-18 20:00:00

Yay! Time to celebrate! Sackboy Proves He's Got Stuffin' just hit page 1 of the community levels!

Uh, hold on a second...

Nooooo! I've just lost all my indie cred!

Well anyways...tonight I've thrown in a little surprise for anyone who bails out the car and tries to run to the end. (Wicked laughter ensues)
