Doesn't really grab me.
I still haven't finished GOW 1 as I didn't find that very fun. Even after playing the "great" hydra boss thing. :/

It has a VERY good sound track.

You do know that the tracks on the Blood and Metal EP are tracks inspired by the series and are not the tracks that you hear in the game?

Tim Moss, Director of Technology at Sony Santa Monica has confirmed that the European version of God Of War III takes up more than 40GB of Blu-ray space. ?In low 40?s,? he said, ?9+ languages.?

Moss previously said that the US version is around 35GB, so that means that the languages spoken by Kratos and pals alone is greater than the capacity of a standard single-sided DVD.

Hopefully they went with the "in the back" loading while a cutscene is playing. That's what a lot of games are doing now.

Yeah, like with Uncharted 2 which had no loading screens and made it so impossible to put down.

And since people asked: #GoW3 has seamless loading. No install, followed by 10+ hours of play uninterrupted by load screens!

http://twitter.com/ChristerEricson/status/9568581261

Kratos is too manly to have girly loading screens.

There was a huge video special and its all recorded, the video is below (with some little commercials of other newly announced stuff like Joe Danger).

NOTE: Lots of spoilers including new items, magic, bosses, weapons etc, but its ALL SO AWESOME

EDIT Bah I wanted to do it by link to be on the safe side, but it won't work (doing it by link just makes a Gamestop ad play and thats it), so I got no choice but to embed it.

Unless you're doing something unique in it don't waste your time. The demo has been out for a few months now so theres going to be plenty of recordings online already.

Ah I hadn't really thought of that, I'm just kind of bored and didn't put anything on youtube for a long time... heh. The demo is very fun though.

It seems like it has a decent amount of depth, or as much depth as a hack and slash game could have anyway.

Up to the Challenge - Beat the Challenge of Olympus will also be difficult it was in the previous 2 games.

You have four difficulty modes; Spartan (Easy), God (Normal), Titan (Hard), and Chaos (Very Hard). You need to unlock Chaos by beating the game.

There?s also a new Tresures menu for your unlockables and downloaded content. Listed in this menu is: Videos, Costumes, Combat Arena, and Challenges.

Does nobody else think this game looks far too violent?
I catch trailers occasionally and see clips of Kratos killing things and i just can't stand to watch it.

It's not that i hate violence in general, things like Saw are just tomato sauce being shot through a water gun, but when i watch something from GoW it's like someone showing me a video version of /offended.

I'm surprised that I'm calling a game TOO violent, but maybe it's morally a good thing.

I just found out my copy will be available this Thursday ( I buy from a private game shop, they usually get things 3-5 days before official release) so over the weekend I will be continuing my epic journey in FFXIII, gunning people down in Bad Company 2 and tearing off heads in GoW3. Well, Kratos IS the God of War, not the God of Fluffy Bunnies.

I can't say that it's any worse than things that have been done countless times. *remembers the good ol' days of Carmageddon*. I mean dismemberment is becoming pretty popular in games these days (Dead Space, Wolverine) and I hardly think it matters whether the bad guys are human or zombies or humanoid aliens or even human shaped robots. Violence is violence. Shooting someone in the face then teabagging their corpse is no less offensive when you think about it.

Like i said most of the time it doesn't bother me. I see people explode into pieces in games like Fallout 3, to me that's an explosion of steak and tomato sauce

You can't say GoW doesn't crank the violence way up though. I don't remember being able to cut people open live and disembowel them in GTA.
A note on the head tearing bit, a news article gave a description along the lines of,
"You see the fear and anguish in Helios' face as he reaches the breaking point where his skin tears revealing blood and muscle tendons snapping", that description was universally met by "WOW AWESOME"... i on the other hand think that's just a little disturbing xD

Maybe it's the attitude to which you see Kratos tearing people to pieces or maybe credit to the developers for making it so realistic and going into detail. But generally when i watch the violence i feel almost as i would watching a real torture video or something, which i have seen thanks to the internet D:

Chaos Shall Rise... but will you fall victim to it?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPXFf1eNai4

The critically acclaimed GoW franchise will soon release the anticipated God of War III, which has now been reviewed by Machinima, a gaming company on the internet. Above is a clip from there YouTube channel, featuring a great review on the highly anticipated game God of War III.

So overall, this game will "make you melt like the Nazis in the Lost Arc". You will not be disappointed, and I'm telling you taht they will sell out fast. Which reminds me, let's play "Game Analyst".

My prediction is that the game will sell at least 4+ million units in the first day. As for the first week, I say it'll make $500-$600 million dollars.

Your guess?

When I heard that people have gotten it early I was a little down cause I really wanted to record some, but when I saw the recordings and streamings of there playthroughs, and....I gotta say it, they all were terrible, 75% were low quality or in another language and they either never blocked or just mashed [], they didn't stand a chance on Titan difficulty (and they have no hope on Chaos).

So that perked me up So I'm going to continue practicing on the previous God of wars (I've beaten them all on the hardest difficulty and beaten all the challenges) and come the 16th (I'm getting it at a midnight release) some fresh awesome videos will be coming

Wow, all the 6-inch armor, headsnapping quirks, and 20 foot flip/grapple attacks aren't doing it for me.

I really, really hope this doesn't end up like MW2 (More explosions, cutscenes, and guns; less story, physics, realism, and polish).

I don't know.... I played God of War III last night and I didn't find it very violent at all. The part where my little Sackboy had to platform around the spikey moving pieces of material was a bit tough, but in general I found it to be fairly tame.2010-03-11 14:09:00

So after watching a very cool opening credits I played through the first 20 minutes of the game. And uhhh, how do I put this? Well, it is the single most impressive opening sequence I have ever seen in a video game! I want to use the word epic but it does not do it justice, we need to come up with a new word lol. Let me just say that even if you played the demo (who hasn't?) and watched dozens of videos, nothing can prepare you for witnessing Kratos in action in full HD glory (the visuals are greatly enhanced when compared to the demo).

GoW3 and FFXIII both within the past week? Best week for gaming ever!

Well I finished the game last night and it was quite a ride. GoW3 is a monumental achievement that will show you things no video game has ever shown you before and for that reason alone should be considered a must buy for PS3 owners. It has often been said developers still havn't tapped into the full power of the PS3's cell processor but playing GoW3 you get a feeling of the true potential of what the PS3 is capable of. MGS4 raised the bar and UC2 raised it further. GoW3 shatters the bar, melts it down and forges into the Blades of Chaos! For me it was a feeling of "Yes! THIS is what the PS3 can do THIS is what I have been waiting for!" If your a GoW fan then feel free to rejoice

I realize most people will only begin playing the game today so I don't want to write too much. As I mentioned before, the opening alone completely destroys anything any other game has been able to accomplish, you WILL be in awe! One of my favorite parts is an early boss battle. It's the sort of battle you would expect at the end of a game lol. The QTE events are as brutal as ever and I often found myself giggling maniacally while following the on-screen prompts. The GoW series is just so visceral that it touches something inside few other games can. Some of my favorite moments are when unique camera angles are used for various segments in the game. I don't want to spoil anything but you will see what I mean as you play through the game.

One thing that must be mentioned (that every review has already mentioned) is the length. I played on Hard and beat the game in under 10 hours. I then took an hour and completed the Challenge of the Gods. I may or may not play through again on Very Hard and in all likelihood will trade this in within the next couple of weeks. Does that mean the game is not worth the price of admission? Not at all. In fact, is is arguably more worth it then games thrice as long for the experience you get within those 10+ hours (there is also a ton of "Making Of" vids etc all in HD which is cool). GoW3 deserves to sell well, it deserves your money and your time. It is a glimpse into the future of games (from a technical standpoint) and I can't wait to see how they are going to top this. I would love to hear everyone else's thoughts once they have had a chance to play through it

It's probably the best time I've ever had in gaming as well. I finished Uncharted 2 a day before getting FFXIII and it really did live up to the hype. FFXIII has completely blown me away. I haven't enjoyed a FF game since FFX and was skeptical about FFXIII but it's easily the best RPG I've ever played. GOW3 should arrive any day now and after that I'll give Heavy Rain a shot. It's a great time to be a gamer.

Man, I'm looking out for the 'God of War 3 Ultimate Trilogy Edition'! It looks amazing (all three games, DLC, tons of skins, music, videos, artwork, and a real 'Pandoras Box'!)

But theres not supposed to be many released, so I'll have to pre-order it when it arrives. (Which means no GOW3 for a while... D: )

Yeah the year is off to a great start! I started 2010 with Darksiders and Bayonetta and then moved on to Bioshock 2. I am now playing GoW3, FFXIII and Bad Company 2 with the EU release of Blazblue just around the corner (I have to pick up Heavy Rain at some point too). In my 20 years of gaming I cannot remember the last time so many great games were released in such a short time period

I almnost finished GOW3, I need max 2 hours more.
I want to share my experience.
I'm really curious, so I watched the entire playthrough on the tube...well, even if I knew what was coming, my jaw dropped every 5 minutes and the adrenaline pumped like a wild river.

Since everyone seems to be hailing this game as a creative collaboration of both Jesus and Chuck Norris, i decided to check out some more videos.

The violence doesn't look as cringeworthy as the hypey trailer bits had me believe. I might check it out some time, although i'll still have to squint on the head tearing part xD

Same here. Like Omegaslayer, I've been gaming for about 27 years and I'm having a blast right now. I'm also a huge fan of Bad Company and BF1943 and I was fortunate enough to kick some serious *** in the BETA for BC2, but unfortunately I recently moved to an area where only satellite internet is available so I won't be able to play it online. That would have REALLY put things over the top for me, but at least there's still the single player game.

I played the beginning of GOW3 last night and was just floored by what they achieved with the beginning of the game. I'm really starting to think it's no longer a question of whether action games can be as spectacular as action movies. The question is: can the movies be as spectacular as the games?

EDIT: Oh come on, how can that word be censored here. How will anyone talk about the movie Kick ***? lol

I played some of this the game... I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. I think I'm getting to used to Monster Hunter-style combat and this just kinda felt like... less visceral.

It looks amazing and epic but playing it I just felt like I was mashing square.. and the bosses I got to just felt like part of the scenery.

Great to watch though, very amusing. Kratos has the most hilarious voice actor ever, sounds like an angry Jamaican.

Very true points, but at the same time isn't that usually what hack and slash games are? Just mashing buttons and a few puzzles here and there.

Funnily enough I've just started GoW1 for the first time today. I've borrowed 1 and 2 off a mate as I wanted to play them before 3 (obviously). So far it's amazing... and it's an old game now too!

I'm almost at the end of GOW3 and there was something that hit me about halfway through this game: GOW3 gives me the feeling I had when I was a kid playing games like Zelda and Castlevania. From the excellent puzzles to the brutal boss battles, this game has a kind of old schoolness to it that I adore and it takes the things that I loved about those games and bathes them in blood and beauty with the spectacle of an action movie. Occasional moments of frustration are defeated in the most satisfying ways and you are always rewarded with a new sight to see, a new weapon to wield, and a new enemy to defeat.

There are points of interest around every corner and I'm always dying to see what's next. To call this a hack n slash game is an insult. This is an action game filled with variety and intensity that is truly unmatched by any other game I've ever played. I haven't beaten it yet, but the game could end with Kratos using the blades of exile as a jump rope while the gods shoot spitballs at him and it would still get a 10/10 from me. :kz:

Im only 2 hours in but already this my second favourite game ive ever played (ff7 is unbeatable). The variety and progression of gameplay, means it doesnt become repetive like games such as devil may cry etc. Graphically and artistically this detroys everything out there. High res textures, the equivalent of 16x aa (morphalogical aa) is something not seen in any other game. Uncharted 2 was great at the time but this incredible. It feels like playing in an interactive movie with something new around every corner. Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!2010-03-20 17:34:00

That's the one! I beat first play through on Hard and am now playing on Normal so it should not be a problem. I just got the last weapon from you know who so I am close.

I got that on hard mode, as long as you don't see the "You Are Dead" screen after entering there you can get it. so if you are on the verge of death or about to die, just press select and hit restart from last checkpoint2010-03-20 21:32:00

WOW. I mean, I just played GOW3 this week-end and I've been impressed!

The game is EPIC. Wait, it redefines the word "epic"!! It's straight up there with Uncharted 2 as the best looking game of this gen so far. It's completely mindblowing.

Does anyone know what the Blades of Athena are? I got the Godly Possession from behind Aphrodite, but I don't understand what it does.

EDIT: Oh, the Blades of Athena are the blades you have before they are turned into the Baldes of Exile. So it's just cosmetic.

EDIT: Oh, the Blades of Athena are the blades you have before they are turned into the Baldes of Exile. So it's just cosmetic.

Actually there are some differences between the Blades of Exile and Blades of Athena.

Pros

Rampage of the Furies (L1+O) instead of Hyperion Ram, which is very powerful against single enemies on ground or in air, and you can always do the combat grapple with the Nemisis Whip.

Counterattacks are much better, you slam into the ground creating an big gold explosion instead of a weak short range Ram (or uppercut) attack.

Icarus Ascension (L1 + X) uses the icarus wings to send all enemies nearby into the air, leaving them wide open for a deadly attack like Cyclone of Chaos. This move also replaces the Claws of Hades attack for the other weapons weapon switching special attack (L1 + X with the other weapons)

Cons

Cyclone of Chaos (L1 + []) cannot be extended like Exile's and lasts longer, leaving you wide open. Aerial version is the exact same as Exile's

Tartarus Rage (L1 + Triangle) cannot be charged like Exile's and takes longer to pull, again leaving you wide open. Aerial version is a fast spin drop instead of a slow spin drop.

Spirit/Valor of Hercules (Triangle x 3) is much different and doesn't stun like Exile's

Hyperion Might (Hold [] during a combo) leads Kratos to dash where you can follow up with a ram attack ([]) or Apollo's Ascension (triangle) which is inferior to Exile's version which leads Kratos to do a quick stab combo and you can still follow the ending with Apollo's Ascension with triangle at the end.

Equal
Divine Retribution, like the army of sparta is a strong wide range, multi-hitting move.

But anyway I wanted to let you guys know a little glitch was found where you can play the game with all weapons and items at max level by killing yourself over and over at the Combat Arena until the message "Would you like to change the difficulty to Easy?" appears, picking no takes you back to the main menu, and selecting a new game will start you with ALMOST everything (You don't have the Blades of Exile at the beginning and when you do get them you have to level them up, and also when you get the Blades of Exile you will lose the Rage of Sparta so you have to reget that too in the game, both can be regotten in under an hour with speed and Hermes' Coin)

Now one thing that needs mentioned is you can earn trophies with that glitch so....yeah you get the idea.

I tried to make a video on it, but with the video not in HD and since I have no video editing software for it, I couldn't skip the intro of the new game its not that great

Right after you get the claws of hades theres a bit where it fences you in to try its magic, use their L1 + O move there repeatedly and you'll have it in about 5 minutes.

I played until after Hades and then stopped playing... I dunno, the game is too violent for my tastes... and usually I have no problem with gore... maybe it's just my current mood. Start was epic though and the set pieces really make you go wow but after Hades I put down the controller and haven't picked it up since...

Ah well, at least I have something to look forward to when my mood improves.

Just finished this game. Time for another short review!

Pros:

Epic opening boss fight sequence! Better than both GoW1+2 combined, maybe the best boss fight in video games so far! Definitely the best part and highlight of the game!

Even though it still uses save points that is actually quite scarce in-between, the game auto-saved at every checkpoint frequently, so you can quit whenever and go back to your spot anytime. Definitely a huge plus and very convenient for "bite-size" gaming although you probably can't resist trying to finish the game in 1 sitting!

OMGWTFBBQ graphics!

Controls is still as tight as ever and more refined now.

Cons:

Game is epic and great but still fall short of GoW2 in my opinion, but just slightly ;p
Weapons is not as interesting as GoW2, but again, personal opinion.
Gameplay pace and variety also not quite matching GoW2. Hmm, you guys probably get the idea where this is going
The BIGGEST cons is unskippable cutscenes and the ending credits! Making replaying less fun!

Bonus:
I like how they insert some homage gameplays of Guitar Hero and 2d fighters in the game!

I finally started playing this the other day. I really enjoyed GoW1 and did not get to play GoW2. The game is alright I guess... I'm not being wowed by it. I find many things about the game frustrating, probably emphasized by the fact that I'm playing through on Titan difficulty as my first go:

- things that should been intuitive are not. great example here is where you have to cross gaps by holding onto harpies. i died well over ten times before i figured out how to hop from harpy to harpy.

- fixed camera angles that are sloppily placed and cause you to die needlessly. that gap you traverse back across after getting apollo's bow is easy to miss because kratos has jumped in front or behind it. or my favorite is when you're in a bigass fight and there's something in the foreground that completely obscures you and you can't see what you're doing and get reamed by baddies.

- controls. while the combos are pretty tight, why is it you can't interrupt one to block? particularly problematic during boss sequences. why is the default selection at the main menu "new game" rather than "load"? why does it feel like select and start are programmed backwards? why does a double jump require such a speedy double tap and why can't I use R1 for my effing icarus wings.... do you know how many holes i've fallen in because the stupid wings don't deploy?!?

- no matter how many times i tell the game I don't want to change to easy mode after dying 5 times in a row it keeps asking me. thanks for rubbing it in, game!

All in all, the game is good, but I do find myself cursing at it. A lot. The visuals are good and the enemies well designed. Combat-wise it's God of War and hasn't evolved an iota, but given that I enjoyed the first game this isn't a problem. The boss fights are really what's holding my interest since you really need to "learn" them in order to beat them on Titan. It's all about developing strategies for dodging every attack - I like this a lot. Some regular fights have really annoyed the hell out of me (i.e. the doors at the start of Olympia where you fight the spartans - if you get cornered or attacked by a dog, you can easily lose over half your health from getting stunned once because everybody gets a shot at you while you're down).

Sounds like you should of gone on the normal mode lol! The harpies I had no problems with. It tells you what to do and what to press, and even highlights the ones to go on (did you turn off tips?)
As a whole I found the camera great, but yeah a few instances when it bothered me. In terms of blocking, some attacks you can block mid way through and some you can't. Work out which ones you can and then use them when you need to block more Also it's just hold the jump button for the wings... but yeah i still had problems in some parts when it didn't. Would of liked it to be on a separate button also.

Normal mode won't get me a Platinum

I'm as far as Hermes right now. It hasn't been overly difficult, aside from that battle outside Olympia. That was by far the worst. But it hasn't been uncommon for me to die a bunch during a boss fight while I'm learning the attack patterns. But yeah, I've probably accumulated 100 deaths already O.o

Tips are on, but all it tells you is how to grab a harpy not how to transfer. I kept thinking I was supposed to press L1+O like it told me to do to grab the initial harpy. Turns out you're supposed to press X....

The inconsistency of the difficulty is pathetic...

Poseiden: Normal
Hades: Hard
Apollo: Hilariously Easy
Hermes: Hilariously Easy

If the pattern keeps up, the next boss should be sadistically impossible

Hahah.... I think it was deliberate though. I don't think Apollo, Helios, or Hermes are technically bosses. But notice how the areas preceding them were a bit more difficult than average. The Citygate of Olympia, and the fight with the Olympians + Centaur were definitely tricky.

I just passed the "next boss" you're talking about. He's not that hard. Just keep an eye out for the spikes on the walls.

Hmm... I thought it was a fun, worthy time. I mean it really just sticks with the formula of the previous ones, so if you like them, it's pretty hard not to enjoy this one.

I don't know though... The (lack of) story, the arbitrary way that kratos gets from one place to another (aaand, let's go to hades! and back up again! and back down again! where to next??)... while it undoubtedly has bigger boss battles and some huge set pieces, the way that they cram every god and every location all while having zero story into the same package, it has the opposite effect I think that they intended - it doesn't feel bigger to me, it feels SMALLER. Everything happens so arbitrarily I didn't feel like the stakes were very high like I did in the previous games - especially the first.

So, thumbs up for fun but VERY familiar gameplay and some clever set-pieces, but thumbs down for blandness otherwise.

Was this game easier than the previous ones to anyone else? For some reason it just clicked with me and I had a much easier time with it than the older ones.

The Flaming Cerberus of Doom = Pain!

Teebonesy: I couln't agree more. When you compare Cronos in the first game:

"And so, it took him 3 days to climb the great titan"

to Cronos in part 3:

*Kratos flies around Cronos several times within a minute*

It's much less realistic, and the story is the worst of all three games (even the awful time-traveling stereotype of #2).

"And so, it took him 3 days to climb the great titan"

to Cronos in part 3:

*Kratos flies around Cronos several times within a minute*

That's the PERFECT example! And consider how you GET to Cronos. "here's a portal. Go through and fetch me a stone so I can craft a weapon."
*goes through portal*
*fights cronos*
*comes back with stone*

And that's it! That's how the big showdown with Cronos happens! Completely and totally arbitrary. They just grab a character from the previous games and throw him in there and present some random excuse to fight him. Pretty weak sauce.

Did anyone watch the behind-the-scenes videos?

Watch the "voice acting" one. Seriously, it's great. They bring in Malcolm McDowell to voice Daedalus, and when he hears the VO director say he wants a second take "to protect it" (also called a "safety" take), Malcolm flies totally off the handle, and the room has to somehow deal with a very very ******-off movie star who suddenly thinks their whole operation is talentless.

I had just gotten done with Cronos before coming in again, coincidently

The combat does feel a little easier since you have more options, at least it seems that way IMO. You couldn't just grab enemies at a distance anytime you wanted in the first 2, for example.

I do feel like the huge showdowns are a little... rushed, somehow. I'm also finding it very odd that Kratos can just kill gods and titans with minimal effort. Like when he just kills Poseidon with his bare hands, or rips Helios's head off. And it all happens so fast... you barely even get introduced to Poseidon and then boom off a cliff he goes, after fighting his Horses that have crabs.

Nope, standard. You do have to beat the game first, and then in the Extras menu it opens up a whole whack of behind-the-scenes features. Watch them, they're actually very insightful and it's just very cool to see the story of the game coming together and get to know some of the people creating it. Some neat scenes are presented, such as the buildup to the E3 presentation, and how incredibly nervous they were to be showing it off to people and playing and presenting it live to so many people. There's a bit of drama too, as the game's creative director actually quits all of a sudden and leaves much of the office absolutely baffled.

That collection pack is awesome, it also took me a while to beat GOW2 but very worth the time played.

I just beat the Challenge of Olympus, and started another playthrough on Normal. I Beat the game on Titan but missed a couple of trophies... In like no time at all I'm practically halfway through the game, the difference in difficulty is surreal If you don't want the game to be over in a few hours, I suggest you play on Titan.

Well, having looked at the behind-the-scenes videos, here's what I gather:

Pandora's box was not empty. Nor did it contain all the evils of the world. Instead it contained the power of hope. la la laaa...
This power is enough to give any one god supreme command over the crippled world, and Kratos has it, a final gift from Pandora.
Rather than give it to Athena, he unleashes it onto the lands. See those blue sparkly snowflakes? them's hope-balls!

Okay, pretty ridiculous, I'll hand it to you. And after the credits they show that Kratos has crawled away? Did I see that right? He's not dead? They're honestly trying to convince us that this is the last God of War game when they end it on a pseudo-cliffhanger!? Uuugh. Okay, fun game, I enjoyed it, but I'm hanging up my God of War hat!

I think "pretty ridiculous" is an understatement. This storyline rivals the uncreativity of the MM story levels.

To your story explanation: I thought so, but hope-balls? I wish they showed some kind of effect from it, like new plant-life growing.

After the credits, do you mean that trail of blood the went off the cliff? I never thought that Kratos crawled away... Wow, you're right, that's crazy.

Oh, did it go off the cliff? Maybe he didn't crawl away, but crawled to his suicide. It's just... I mean, I thought he was already dead, right? So if he had to CRAWL toward the cliff, then obviously he wasn't dead... but if the blood goes OFF the cliff, then maybe he IS dead by suicide.

But he's DONE that before! It failed! He survived! This is... This freaking game has gone off the rails, man! I don't even know WHAT to think anymore!

I don't even know WHAT to think anymore!

whater it is have you been watching the screen on http://www.godofwar.com/spartansstandtall/
3/4 of the ciricle int he top right is full and you see a man looking into the water, is it our old god fo war?

hmmmm...
I agree. I just kind of face palmed at the very "la la laaaa" as you put it ending. HOPE! Hope is the power to defeat a god! Give hope back to mankind! Oy. But still, even if he died by the sword or jumped off the cliff... since when has dying ever bothered Kratos? He just keeps coming back... It was awesome in the first game. It was slightly cool in the second. But geez.

The only thing I'm left thinking of is if he did jump off the cliff or really just crawled away and survived. We do remember one of the lessons he learned was that to be forgiven he had to forgive himself, so maybe he wasn't in the same mindset he was before. UGh. What a Disney movie.

I do recall hearing that this wasn't the end of the franchise. I'll have to find something to back that up when I come home later.

Yeah, I think you're right. They'll definitely find a way.

This seems to be rather appropriate. (http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2010/3/22/)

I forgot something about a rant about: souls. You reminded me. The soul, ghost, afterlife thing no longer makes any sense whatsoever.

-Hades is dead, and no one can care for the souls.
-Hey, wait a minute, doesn't Hades have a soul himself?
-Zeus's soul attacks you when he's dead.
-Kratos kills himself, but because all the other Gods are dead, his soul would probably wander the Earth for eternity.
-With no Gods, how long is an eternity? What becomes of the future of the world? /getting too philosophical.
-Do titans have souls?
-Why does Kratos still have a body in the underworld, and not a soul?

Good Points...

Yeah, Zeus was able to attack you in spiritual form. And Athena also still exists in spiritual form and can actually TOUCH Kratos. She just leaves the underworld at will? Or is she able to leave when Hades is kaput.

As far as Hades, he seems like the only god that makes sense to have "died" since Kratos sucks the soul right out of him with his own claws. It's like conventional death has no meaning in this game. So it makes you wonder why Athena and Zeus remain as souls after death, and how come the rest of the gods "Die"...

How come the other gods instantly just dissolved into plagues on the land? How come when Kratos killed Athena she didn't plague mankind with stupidity? Oh wait... that might explain a lot

Kratos gives "hope" to mankind so I assume this is leading into when men think for themselves and are not controlled by gods. I guess when faith in themselves grows stronger, the godly influence will diminish and the plagues on the land will cease. Or something like that.

So basically, Kratos is the savior that gives man free will. Their fates are no longer predetermined, they are no longer judged by gods or depend on them.

I do feel bad for Pandora, though.

GASP!!

Plus, he's Zeus's son...

The son of God, who becomes the savior of all mankind??

Kratos was Jesus all along!

Don't you remember that story in the New Testament where Jesus takes out his chain-blades and totally goes to town on those guys trying to kill Mary Magdalene? And then he totally shows her a good time while those other prostitutes watch. I can't believe it, it was right under our noses this entire time.

Ha
The funny thing is when I was finishing the game I basically shouted "AHA he's Jesus!" All the epic stories seem to revolve around the illegitimate son(s) of Zeus.

Now ... the one thing I'm REALLY curious about... how come all the human NPCs just mindlessly run around in circles?

Because running around in squares looks weird.

If he did actually crawl to live another day then it makes no sense why he stabbed himself. He probably stabbed himself, then said: "Wait... I don't want to die! What am I doing?! I gott get out of- FUUUUUUUUUUUUU-" and he dies. Again. But seriosusly, why try and kill yourself, then try to keep living.2010-05-01 02:54:00

Well I figure ...
The sword of olympus did more than just kill things. It kind of returned the being's godly energy to the Earth, so him stabbing himself cast the secret hope and assorted other fluffy things onto all of mankind. Just like when all the gods died their energies came upon the land on full force, Kratos now returns the means to control it. Or something.

That's just my hypothesis.

That's a good theory, but the problem is that Kratos didn't use the sword to kill all the other gods, only a couple. Helios, for example. We ALL remember Helios...

Oh. Duh...

Btw...

How come he can kill GODS with his BARE HANDS!? I mean, in the first game he goes on this massive quest to get the power to kill a god. Then becomes a god. Then Zeus makes him a normal human again. How come he can kill gods?! Did he get some of his godly strength back when he had the sword of olympus again?

They really stripped the power out of the unfolding events in this game. Previously it felt like huge things were happening and the stakes were high and you were going up against forces infinitely more powerful than yourself.

but now...

*kratos beats poseidon to death*
*kratos snaps hera's neck*
*kratos rips helios's head off*
*kratos punches hercules in the face until he dies*
*kratos accidentally kills Apollo at dinner by accidntally serving bad salmon*

Yeah, like you guys were discussing earlier in the thread.

But it was more or less to be expected from this game... there wasn't really much room for plot twist or unfolding... or WAS THERE?! There could've been! We all basically knew that:

Kratos was going to kick everybody's ***.

But believe it or not, I did get a little anxious over:

Ok so every god so far unleashed horrible plagues onto the world after their death... I was honestly wondering what would happen when I kill Zeus, king of the cosmos. I was slightly disappointed, there wasn't any catastrophe! I mean even little whiny Hermes at least unleashed horrible plagues of bugs and disease.

It is funny that even though everything is visually bigger, it doesn't FEEL bigger. And you know, everyone's wondering what happened to Kratos... but what happens to Athena? She still existed...

Was anyone else dissapointed? Seriously, I expected Kratos to stick his arm down Zeus's throat and tear his stomach out, or something

Why did Kratos kill him? Isn't he the guy who bi***-slapped Helios?

Which brings me to my next question: Isn't this supposed to be a war with titans? In the cliffhanger for GOW2, he stood on Gaia's back, and acted like he was going to lead them into battle against the Gods. I was hoping to even get to know some of the titans, not to have all of them besides Gaia be mindless masses of dirt-fused flesh. None of the titans besides Gaia and Cronos even talk!

Did anyone else find the number of actual Gods that fight you, five, to be disappointing? I'm trying to remember the Gods from the other games (but I threw away my PS2, not realizing my PS3 model couldn't play PS2 games).

What about Gods that never die, like Athena, and Aphrodite?

I kind of agree...

That firey lava titan thing, I also wonder why the heck Kratos decided to kill him. It's like we're just killing everything off for the hell of it. I am also slightly disappointed in the very low amount of interaction between the titans and the gods. I mean the opening sequence is cool, it's really interesting to see like Hades pulling someone off the side of the mountain while you're climbing. But still, it's like the rest are all mindless beasts.

I'm also slightly disappointed that there weren't more gods in the game, but hey. I get it. They have limits. At least they got the main ones down.

Oh and with the above video... hmm.. I forgot all about that old man! Could it be Zeus?

What do you mean, "It's like"? Remember the background character who got in Kratos' way when he was scaling the wall? "Curse the gods and their fighting!"

What's up with the God's sizes?
Even in game one, Ares was huge while Athena was human-sized. The titan Cronos was the same size as Ares.

Even in game 3, why is Hephaestus still big when the other Gods are small?

I was thinking about that too, the god sizes...
But in the 2nd game Zeus could blow himself up to Ares size too... how come no god did that this time? They could've just stepped on Kratos. Except maybe Hades, he made himself bigger by a bit. The body of Ares is preserved in the huge state, too. How come Zeus couldn't just make himself big and step on Kratos?

It was a little weird to me. Because when I first saw Ares I thought that all the gods were so massive. Not people sized...

Because Kratos would just do another circle button smashing session. Also, since he can lift Gaia off a cliff, why does he take 15 sections to pull a lever or open a door?

Yea but what you need to ask your self is not how come but what if? if they did all those things you'd put down the controller and be like..."...WHAT!?!?! what just happen?! that was a stupid ending >" lol2010-05-02 01:15:00

As foofles said, the ending was interesting, but it's GOW3. "Interesting" just doesn't cut it.

I was exepecting something to blow me away. The GOW series seems to be over, and the last thing I'll remember it by is the ending.

Why is everybody using spoilers? I think everybody who has the game beat it already. If you didn't, then do it (if you don't own it, buy it!).

Anyways, since I'm fed up with the ending, I'll be the jerk here and ruin the fun for you:

Kratos commits suicide. The end.

I just got the platinum trophy. Ah. Yummy.

Got it yesterday, I had it worked out so it could also be my 1000th trophy.

Got me thinking about spartansstandtall the corner thing was 1/4 full at the start 1/2 full a week later 3/4 full a month after that, I'm betting the big reveal coincides with E3.
