"Scenic of the Leaves" by Spark151

Archive: 19 posts

Hey there Sack People!

I've been working on 3 levels so far.
I finally finished one level called "Scenic of the Leaves"

It's basically just a Forest type of level and the level is not suppose to be challenging.
Just a fun, well-edited level.

I wish I can take pictures, but my camera is blurry.

Anyways, if you become bored, feel free to check out my level.

And yes, the new update messed up my levels, but they're fixed.

By the way, XD I tried to come up with a good title of the level.
Tell me what you think about the level and the title name.

Anyways, Thanks for stopping by to read this thread

Amazing level design and scenery. I only had 1 little issue was that after i got that magnet I did not know what to do so I went back where I got it and when I realized what to do I was stuck because of that little nook in the rock was to high for me to jump back. Overall :star::star::star::star: and a heart.2010-02-11 02:53:00

Well, by magnet, i think u mean the rectangular key

Well insert the key at the place where the orange tree is located at

it'll lead you to a vine where you have to grab it from above

I had a feeling some people would have trouble with the level >_>

it's a simple level if you're used to playing lbp a lot (whether its psp or ps3)

If you need a bump on this thread, let me know and I'll help you out - this level deserves the credit!

I'm really enjoying my post-publish time here, catching up on all the excellent levels that showed up in the past few days. This is one of the very best and I'm amazed it hasn't received more feedback. Everyone, play this level!

Everything is great... I really don't have anything to complain about. I'm sure I'll think of some small way-too-nitpicky thing before I'm done writing, but as of this very moment I promise you there is absolutely nothing that comes to mind that is bad. Really! The scenery is beautiful, lush, and you made fantastic use of the multiple layers. You had me looking closely at the screen in several spots because I could swear I counted more than the 2 thick and 3 thin layers. No, you didn't cheat... You just made great use of the space available. I think what sells the look so well is the fact that you seemed to have built layer-on-layer, just how something would grow naturally. As usual, your corner editing is ridiculously good and I especially like your combinations of material color and stickers. I think it's the brushed green metal that has a dark green edge to it - you played that perfectly with the foliage stickers and made some very nice looking plant life. Oh, your prizes are great too and it's even better that they are optional and not forced on the player. Really though, everyone should pick them all up because they'll look great in people's levels. I would like to personally thank you for helping to make the overall pool of community levels prettier thanks to your leaves and other bits.

The puzzles are nicely thought out, straightforward to figure out, and fun to execute. You highlighted key events with speech bubbles very well, and I didn't run into a single problem at all. I liked the underwater section a lot and thought that was a nice addition to the overall level. Every garden worth its daisies has a pond, right? Oh! I thought of something to complain about. Maybe some more water-related noises in that section would be good. Perhaps the "plunge" noise and some bubbles added in with what you already used there. I also couldn't see your "Spark151" sign in the background particularly clearly, but then again I think that was probably your point. I do appreciate the subtlety and think it goes well in the level without being distracting at all.

For my money, this is your best work yet. Your Metroid levels are of course awesome, but I think I like this one better because of the overall unified theme of greenery and garden goodness (hmm, would that be "3g" then? ) 5 stars and a heart easily - creator heart given a long time ago! Great stuff here; thanks for the excellent experience.

thanks Taffey

Yeah, I didn't want to show my name in the middle of the level because I didn't want to ruin the scenery, so I hid my name in the background.

and your right, I should have added water noises n stuff ;D

thx for the feedback

Played this game late last night, really enjoyed it!
Sorry I'm not doing a 'blow by blow account of your game, but I'm just ruining out of time today.

I don't think much needs to be said that hasn't already been spoken about, but I must say that I thought it was at a very high standard of gaming creations ( I cant for the life of me think of a better way of saying what I'm trying to say) er...It was a very good game, of a very high standard! There! I LOVED your magnetic key puzzle! Made me think "mmmmm, what do I do now?" made me back track and have to really scrutinies the scenery to see what I was missing, NICE!
Great cut and pasting of leaves and grass, not so keen on the water part, thought that was the weakest bit really. A good solid platformer, with some nice touches that put it above the majority!

Score:
Graphics: 8.7 very precise Conner editing.
Fun factor: 8.5 (can I say again how much i liked the magnet puzzle)
Originality: 8 Still a platformer, but a GOOD one!
Length: 8.8

8.5, though that sounds a little unfair, I gave you five stars and a heart, real nice work!

Hey Spark151,

I was a huge fan of your corner-editing skills with your Metroid series, but I always felt they were a bit incomplete in terms of a wholesome experience. But boy, this was a complete package, and I'm glad you went this direction in terms of design. I'm not sure if you played my Bird of Paradise level, but it seems you and I share a similar aesthetic when it comes to plants.

However, I felt it was somewhat of a cop-out on my part to make the flowers really huge to avoid those tiny little corners. You, on the other hand, were bold to go that extra step in paying attention to the smallest of details in your foliage designs. The composition of the level was beautiful. I really liked the clusters of leaves and the "emitted leaf lift" towards the beginning of the level as it gave a really laid back and breezy feeling. It set the relaxing mood right of the bat, and you did an incredible job carrying that feeling throughout the level. I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but I loved crawling under the skeleton of the animal embedded in the soil. Its sheer size did wonders in terms of creating that bug's eye perspective.

I guess my only problems with the level was the pond section, but only in terms of visuals. The water seemed a bit too murky for me. Of course this is just personal taste, but it felt rather gloomy and took away from the relaxing feeling a bit. And the jelly-fishes also seemed a bit out of place. However, I can't justify this criticism on account that I loved the skeleton section, but I don't know, the magic just wasn't there for me. This is very minor, and I'm sure it's just personal preference. Other than that, I would suggest more original gameplay. The simple obstacles did fit the serene aura of the level, but I would've liked to see just one maneuver that made me say wow.

Regardless, this level was not only beautiful, but also therapeutic! This totally deserved to be Spotlighted, and this makes me crave for more Spark151 levels! Obvious 5:star:s and a heart. (I already hearted you since your Metroid series!)

Setting a picnic blanket underneath the skeleton,

Just played this level for the first time, and it was brilliant.

I think the selling point was the awesome scenery. it made you feel really small, like a little sackboy in the grass. It was great.

If I was absolutely forced to nit pick, I would say that the 'cut-scene' words were a bit unnecessary, but that's hardly an issue at all!

Five starts and heart. Also, you made the Metroid levels? There some of my favourite levels!

Very nice, I really liked the atmosphere of the level. However, I think I'm the first person to say that the leaves were a bit overdone. I did like the gameplay though, and I cant wait to see more from you. Hearted, and 5 stars very easily.2010-02-23 01:16:00

I know, I know! I'm kind of late. But I barely played LBP these past weeks, and I always forgot about playing this level. Now I regret I didn't do it earlier.

This is a fresh, sunny, brightful level. Most users, when trying to create interesting visuals, take the realistic route (as realistic as LBP can get). Instead, you opted for a shiny, colourful, old-school approach. And the result was truly fantastic. Not too cartoonish, not too simplistic, not too complex either. At parts, it felt like a Sonic The Hedgehog level (from Genesis / Mega Drive). And Sonic is one of my favourite games ever (specially its visuals), so that should tell you how much I enjoyed your level.

For me, the best part was when you get inside the lagoon with the jellyfish, it was exciting even if you only spend a few seconds in there.

As for the gameplay, it was diverse enough and never got boring: puzzles, platforming, challenges... Overall, it was a fun ride.

5 stars and hearted.
