Official Statement from Cambridge: Update 2.03 Announcement

Archive: 14 posts

Official statement from Cambridge:

Although the release of update 2.03 has fixed many issues, unfortunately it has also introduced a few new ones.
We apologise for any frustration caused by the update, and want to let you all know that we are working hard to address your concerns.

We have some information regarding the following issues :-

Broken Pistons
Issue: Pistons breaking after saving in edit mode. (Also affects Springs)
Detail: When connecting a piston to a dynamic object first, then a static object and then saving and reloading a level the piston will travel in the wrong direction.
Resolution: We are working on a fix for this issue now and will try and make it available as soon as possible.
If you have already edited and saved your level since downloading the patch you can fix any broken pistons by remapping them, attaching to the static object first, then the dynamic object.

Pistons Triggering Incorrectly
Issue: Pistons connected to an Inverted Switch now trigger when starting a level.
Detail: We updated the behaviour of pistons connected to inverted switches to be consistent with the PlayStation3 game. Unfortunately this change has caused a number of levels that used the original behaviour to become broken.
Resolution: We are sorry for any problems this may cause, but we believe it is necessary that the intended behaviour is consistent

Magic Mouth Cameras Not Triggering
Issue: If a magic mouth has a cutscene camera but no speech it won't trigger.
Detail: We updated magic mouths so they don't show a speech bubble if you don't enter any text, however if a cutscene camera was setup for the magic mouth this now won't trigger either.
Resolution: If you have experienced this problem and would like your magic mouth to function as it did, you can simply type a space in the text field. Alternatively, if you don't want any text you could use a normal camera instead.

We will be looking into other issues including reversed bolts and create mode crashes, and checking the forums for your feedback. We're sorry for any annoyance caused by the 2.03 update, and hope you can enjoy all the new fixes and features we've added.

As soon as there is more news we'll update accordingly,
AceCreator

Glad to see their addressing the issue rather than sweeping it under the carpet.

Off topic: Gosh, it looks like everyone is online at the moment...

Now let's hope they fixt the pistons issue soon.I'm glad to see that it's at least possible to reliably make pistons work as they should. Going through a level and reconnecting all the pistons is a considerable chore but not the absolute end of the world. As long as you write down the pistons' settings before deleting and reconnecting them, making your level work again is now officially possible. Now all we have to do is see if it's worth going to that effort or if its better to wait for a possible additional patch to fix the piston thing.

I posted the details of the piston work-around in my other thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=22412-The-Update-2-03-Bugged-Piston-thread-POSSIBLE-SOLUTION-FOUND) as well.

The problems in both of my levels were no problems with pistons!
Objects got stuck where they didnt before. No words on those issues and nothing in relation to featured levels that are broken now.
Besides that you cant hope for automatic fixing of all your pistons. So some levels will be broken in the future too. (when the pistons are attached to inverted switches).

But its good that they are working on it anyway...

I think this the one that won't let me access my Downloaded Levels.2010-02-10 19:30:00

Though my pistons haven't been affected, a thick layer of metal (my background) has... Everytime I grab it, it slides to the right. And on top of that, its stuck its self to several objects I was working on...2010-02-10 19:37:00

Wait, so are they saying it's up to us to fix them?

Also, does anyone know what happens to a featured level when you republish it?

I kind of like how they strive to keep things consistent with the PS3 version.2010-02-10 21:27:00

I actually like that they acknowledge the community's concerns. It's much more encouraging than the silent treatment we had at the beginning (while we were dealing with all of the initial create mode bugs).

They've made a lot of good changes with this update, and it's a real shame that there were some problems with it.

Now if only we could republish our levels without losing all of our hard-earned hearts and plays. *hint hint*

Hm, at least they give us a statement. I hope the patch will be released the next days. My main problems are the pistons. So if they fix that, i would probably be motivated enough to actually finish my level -.-2010-02-11 00:04:00

So, if I start on a new level, will those pistons be broken or just the ones that were placed before the update?2010-02-11 02:11:00

So, if I start on a new level, will those pistons be broken or just the ones that were placed before the update?Any piston placed incorrectly will be broken regardless of when it was created. The "thick" end of the piston must be connected to static material and the "thin" end must be connected to dynamic material. In other words, you must connect the piston to the static object first, then the dynamic one. Also, you cannot tweak material between static and dynamic (or vice versa) after the piston is connected.2010-02-11 02:20:00
