Material ideas!

Okey so I was thinking... How about connecting switches to materials?? Like a material converter. For example if you make a running platform and set it on fire you could set a one shot switch infront of it that made it into sponge and you could run unharmed over. Think about all the puzzles you could make and all the fun stuff you could do. You could add a x2 puzzle where one had to hold a switch to make a metal door into cardboard and the other one had to use a cannon to blast it away. That was an easy example but if you use your imagination the possibilities are endless! You could also connect platforms to a magnetic switch with a piston moving the magnet on to the reciever and off so that the platform would stay metal for 5 sec and then be electric for 5 sec then metal then electric and so on. So that the player would have to time his jumps. And another awesome idea would be for eksample a timed run! Like if you could use a sensor switch when you entered an area then when you pass it a countdown would start and you had like a couple of minutes to pass the area before everything turned to fire! You wouldn't need a timer eighter you could just have a magic mouth to tell the player when he pass this door you will have 1 minute to save the princess! After that minute the castle would be lit on fire!! Using a delay switch of course. This should not be a big problem to add into the game seeing as you have the material converter tool and I guess they could easily make this tool comprehend with switches. Only that the creator must tweak the material to be metal when the switch is on off mode and sponge when the switch is on mode. And the lethalise tool shouldn't be a problem eighter. | 2010-02-09 23:46:00 Author: Kevlaren ![]() Posts: 3 |
Wow this would make for some amazing levels. It does sound easy but I'm not sure if it actually would be. Also i'm not sure if you know about the different thermos or not but basically DM is the 'cheapest' since it has no physical properties as such and also the more types of material you have the more thermo you use, so it might also be quite thermo hungry. But I don't really know, these are just my thoughts, cool idea though. | 2010-02-10 08:18:00 Author: SR20DETDOG ![]() Posts: 2431 |

maybe a "chewing gum" material on which you get stick sometimes or you can run slower on it but this could also just be a glue material would be fun especially for races sorry if i spelled some words wrong my english isnt very good | 2010-03-02 21:12:00 Author: Chicoleunis ![]() Posts: 123 |
these are the matericals I think should be added in some "material/background map pack" --Grabbable, but not destructable (Glue, or something like that) --heavy and grabbable (Beveled Steel, hallowed steel) --heavy(sinkable) and destructable (Fractured metal) --Bubble - shapes that the sackperson can breath in underwater, used for submarines, underwater locations, etc. --plasma hazard (self-explanatory) --explosive hazard (allows any shape to explode via switch) --deformable material (memory foam) --can deform on impact, for example, weight falls on it, and it can deform into a ramp. --Bump-map-less material (abs Plastic) --can be used as a great surface for placing stickers --gold (heavy, bump-map-less shiny material) --fiber-optics (acts as a 'tv'. allows the players to see another location that is connected by the material) --paint (hazard?) makes the material 'splash' just like the paintball. bigger object=bigger paint splash. thats all I can think of so far. | 2010-03-02 22:26:00 Author: m500games ![]() Posts: 23 |
