Question about Material that has to dissolve

Archive: 11 posts

Hi everyone!
I wondered if i could dissolve any material? I dont want to use the green dissolve material cause the colour doesnt fit my project and i think i have seen other materials dissolving in some levels too. I tried to achieve it with a brain glued into my object but i crushed it from time to time when i didnt want to. Also i thought of emit it and reduce its lifetime but that would be too short...

Any ideas or hints?

I got Rtm's demitter tech (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=11861-Demitters-tech-demo-updated-2009-11-30) to work. At some later point I did find a stack of objects emitted, even though the max emitted at once was set to 1, so I recommend switching it off when the player isn't near.2010-02-09 09:32:00

You can make the entire object a 'creature' and attach the brain to whatever trigger you're using to dissolve it. I think you need to make sure the 'vulnerable' box is unticked.2010-02-09 10:02:00

i didnt really understand the part with the brain attached to a switch. Could you explain some more?

@Rogar: so i just emit the same object again (anywhere) and the original object will disappear cause the emitter is set to just one at a time? Is that right?

That is the basic principle of the demitter method. It can be a little awkward to work with due to some bugs involving emitters, but the logic switches I give away in my copyable level get around those nicely.

An alternative if all you want to dissolve is material objects, is to get your hands on some "cow glitched" materials - materials that have the properties of one material, but the looks of another. You can't make these anymore, but there are community levels with them in. Find some dissolve that has been made to look like the material you want and create your object out of that. Then you can just hook up some switches to it.

You can kill creature brains via switches too. Just attach the brain to the object, hit it with a one-shot signal and the object will die. I tend to dislike this method as it is slightly less clean - both in the way it looks and the fact that it pays out points. It always feels like a cop-out IMO.

At some later point I did find a stack of objects emitted, .
This is objects emitted in create mode, then you rewind and the object is no longer tied to the emitter. Don't allow demitters to fire in create mode. Ever. Preferably don't allow any emitters to fire in create mode, unless they have a very short lifetime.

Hehe, you're posting in the PSP section again!

It's not that you're not allowed, but there is no cow glitch for the PSP, as far as I know.

*** OOoops... just realized this was the PSP forum - info may not be relevent! ***

You can sticker dissolve quite easily and make it look like your other material. I do that quite a bit. Just make a huge chunk of the material you wish it to look like and take a picture in front view, then sticker the dissolve. It sometimes has a weird green cast depending on the lighting on how you took the picture, and how light the color of the material, but messing around I can usually get it to work fairly well.

As far as the protected creature brain goes, if the object isn't just a single block of material (at least I have had issues when just a single block), you can attach the brain to the object and then hook a switch to it set to one shot and it will be removed. Quick Fyi - A creature brain likes to be attached last to an object or it gets confused so if you decide to tweak your object later, the brain may fail by removing itself, but not the object.

I just had a proper play around to see how this would actually work.

You need to connect an unprotected brain to the object you want to destroy - it seems I can't work out what the vulnerable setting actually does. Then connect a switch to the creature brain and set it to one shot or on/off. Now if you hit the switch the object will be detroyed (and you get 50 points). This won't work if you simply unpause in create mode to test it, you need to actually be in play mode for it to work.

Of course, using a creature brain means you also have a vulnerable spot that sackboy can jump on, however, on'ce you connected the switch and got it working, you can detach the brain from the edge of the object and place it inside, making it both invisible and inaccessible.

And another one! Three times means the weather will turn good, right?

Stickering dissolve (with preexisting stickers) doesn't cover the sides of the object in the PSP version.

Edit: @salieri: Vulnerable means the creature is vulnerable to hazards like fire and electricity.
