Parkour/Street Running Pack

Archive: 44 posts

A street running ability would be good as it could introduce wall jumping and grabbing onto the edge of a wall. You could also be able to skid down a wall making you fall slower and if you pushed the analog stick down, you could duck down and skid along the ground while slowing down so you can pass through tight gaps. Perhaps you could even be able to run up a wall for a short distance and run slightly faster. Or when you fall a large distance, when you land, you do a roll when you hit the ground

All of this could be achievable with a new kind of material or power up (running shoes?).

NICE!!!

i love this idea! it would make 2x player levels able to be 1x levels... like in the wedding where you need to get the people to climb the ladder thing one a a time... i did it by myself though. (pretty easy actually XD)

Interesting idea. It sounds like it would be hard to introduce into LBP.
On one hand this would make for much more in depth gaming experience simply because you could control your sackboy/girl in more ways but on the other hand because sackboy/girls extra 'moves' it would also break alot of levels out there by either making them too easy or allowing players to get to places that they weren't supposed to get to. Still a cool idea though.

I did say that you could use a special material or power up in order to use parkour. This is what would prevent players from getting where they aren't supposed to.

Hmm, I not sure how I missed that, sorry. Again I do like this idea.

Except you can't jump from a ledge by going off the back layer. GRR! lol

I do indeed like the idea of this pack...it opens the pathways to a lot of level designs (based off of Sonic the Hedgehog, no doubt). They could even call them "Soap Shoes".

Oh, no one got that? Awww...

Sorry, I'm getting off-topic! Forgive me!

This type of pack could make the Mirror's Edge levels work that much better...and plus, the option of running however much faster is always a good option in my book! The only problem would be the materials...it would have to be bland enough to fit with all the different types of materials...and that's not easy...

But still, good thought, good thought!

wonder if it gonna be a mirror's edge level pack or a parour pack? i think it the powerup coz if a sackperson equip this powerup, he become a freerunner. jump higher, do a wallrun (might press X again to run up the wall, i'm not sure) if there is a layer behind a sackperson, u name it.

could it be a parkour shoes powerup or runner's ring, i'm not sure about that...

I dunno if half of this is needed, you can get around things like speed and wall running by judging your levels carefully, or putting invisible points in.

I did that with my Mirror's Edge levels, there are a load of wall runs that aren't specifically obvious, but create awesome shortcuts you wouldn't even know about.

The edge hanging? Well, that was more difficult, but I managed to implement it. Somehow, I feel the inclusion of this as a feature would sour the inventive ways people have gotten around them to recreate the features of the games that inspired them.

What you're proposing is to drastically change the mechanics of the game. It would be too much work, it would feel unlike LBP and it would make many many existing levels obsolete.

to do a tic tac AKA Wall Run in LBP, if sackboy/sackgirl equip these shoes powerup, by tapping X once after a jump when the sackperson in front of the layer, sackboy/sackgirl do a single tac, tap X twice after a jump while in front of the layer to do a double tac and tapping X 3 times after a jump while in front of the layer to do a triple tac.2010-03-29 21:45:00

Sackboy could have some shoes that would allow him to jump wall-to-wall. That would be pretty awesome.2010-03-29 21:59:00

Thanks you two, was about to say that.

I mean, i don't want LBP turned into some completly different game.

Interesting that I noticed this thread. Just when I was making the first of many planned parkour levels.

BUT, this idea seems very bad. LBP parkour is different than real life parkour, but the same general idea.

In LBP you use the functions given to you and do what you can.

Some of the things already mentioned in topic post can be done.

If something like this was made it would ruin LBP parkour and take out the skill required in it.

@vergil:

New Sonic DLC? Is there something I don't know about? Because the Sonic DLC is already out. It's been out for days.

Some people posting on here keep on seeming to miss the fact that NOT all levels will be made obselete. A new material or powerup for the sackperson to use would only be in the levels people have put them in. Then some levels would require the usage of parkour and the rest of the levels would stay EXACTLY THE SAME.2010-03-30 16:44:00

in my place, sonic the hedgehog outfits released in 3 or 4 days ago, i don't know.

but anyway, i agree with Newo_Namekaw, why did Mm released the paininator last year with MGS pack? rest of the parkour pack ain't gonna change the controler defaults.
with the paintinator, don't no y did they replace the grab button (R1) with the paininator when u equip it...

It's a nice thought. I think it would work good if it was a power-up item like the paintinator and jetpack. Maybe it could be called running shoes, or trainers or something? It would be pretty sweet though, that's for sure.2010-03-30 20:49:00

I don't know, it seems that it would give the Sackboy too much power. lol jk, that would be awesome! But it would be a little too much stuff that Sackboy could do, after all, the Paintonator only shoots, and the jetpack only lets you fly, seems to much for one power-up.2010-03-31 02:48:00

You guys are being ignorant of the fact that it would divide the community; the "Elite" who enjoy playing difficult parkour levels And the "DLCers" who use this.2010-03-31 20:38:00

You could still make a level with difficult with these powerups?
So you can jump longer. Make wider jumps. It's that simple.

I had forgotten that DLC is released at different times depending on one's country. ^_^

This always slips my mind, lol.

so shoes powerup gonna be impossible?

i was thinking that there are bout 3 different urban background in this parkour pack. there's one that have been given while compleated the metropolis. 3 new urban background is fresh and high quality.

Hey what if by just putting some specific shoes (like freerunning shoes) everytime you jump your sackboy would do a flip either front or back? its not impossible i mean, they made some perfume thingys which all you do is see an animation of your sacky using it . So why not?2010-04-03 00:21:00

in total truth i would pay well for this, large hint to Mm, make this, make millions. sell for ?5+ and EVERYONE online will buys this, kids will beg their parents for their credit cards, older players would shell out an hours pay, a reasonable amount for such an amazing feature.
i would pay well for just backflip animation shoes ,although a powerup would be prefered, ofcourse with its limitations,it would not be more powerful than a jetpack. Mm is probably busy developing the move feature which people are still unsure that they want, but we'll see how it goes.

think shoes powerup gonna be alright, as long it won't get confusing and complex. i mean, is that a good example like my other post?

to do a tic tac AKA Wall Run in LBP, if sackboy/sackgirl equip these shoes powerup, by tapping X once after a jump when the sackperson in front of the layer, sackboy/sackgirl do a single tac, tap X twice after a jump while in front of the layer to do a double tac and tapping X 3 times after a jump while in front of the layer to do a triple tac.

also i like Bloo_boy's idea, that u do flips as u jump. i bet that sounds complex to other ppl, 2 short jumps and last jump large jump on a flat land to do a flip, sound hard and confusing guys? i got that idea from SMB on DS when i used to have one.

Oh yeah i know what you mean shifty dog, Like mario would have 3 different jump-phases (type of flips) in Super Mario 64, yeah thats exactly how i mean that other idea, although i agree more with supersadist, i mean maybe it should be a power up instead of animation you know?

HOw bout if The shoe animations was something more simple like um...he ties his shoes or starts warming up (like jumping jacks or running in place.....or strech, etc...)

yea, that's nice. u know sackboy/sackgirl inactivity, where he/she sits down, yarns, looks at his zip or sum sort, then that lot. with the powerup equip, when inactivity, he might do these lot u have said. mainly, powerup is the powerup and animation for inactivity2010-04-03 19:53:00

I don't get why everyone thinks this will break the game, even if it's used as a powerup.

My thoughts for it?

Double jump by tapping X again.

Use L1 as a context sensitive button, so you don't have to use 10 different buttons.

When you're running, tap L1 to roll, or hold L1 to skid to a stop.

When you hit a wall in mid-air, tap L1 to bounce in the opposite direction, or hold L1+left stick to climb (if the material is climbable)

Constant speed boost.

R1 still grabs. Just a normal grab.

All good ideas but couldnt you just use X to wall jump as it is already the jump button?

I have a better idea! Let's introduce a platformer pack! You know, so we can make platforming levels.

And a platforming pack wouldn't be that great, you can easily make platforming levels with what we have already been provided with.

I have a feeling that, with all the replies and comments about this, if MM see this they will put it in...

I liked the L1 action ideas, it reminds of Mario games where you would bounce back on fourth..(like in between two walls for example)...and doing so (bouncing on Recoiling from the walls), you would go up, instead of just using a sponge to go up .2010-04-04 23:59:00

we never used the L1 button before! but only we used the l1 button if the powerup equiped.
we still talking about this powerup that possibly the no.1 powerup in this pack.

this gives me another parkour shoe example

Cool idea. I myself am developing technology called "Aeropulse" that can help those of us who love parkour on LBP to perform unique stunuts. I have recently created a group with a couple of pictures if anyone is interested. I am also going to be releasing a new introduction to a level series known as the Aero Saga.
