Hi everyone!!

So the new Fallout installment is on it's way and the first trailer and details have been revealed!

Here is a looksie!

<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vZQPmDye5xA&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vZQPmDye5xA&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>

And the first details are here also!

# There is an optional hardcore mode, the character needs to drink water, ammo has weight, healing isn?t instant etc. Normal mode is more similar to Fallout 3 gameplay.
# Vegas didn?t get many nukes. More intact buildings, as well as desert vegetation. Vegas itself is mostly intact.
# The storyline is focused on the New California Republic vs. Caesar?s Legion vs. New Vegas residents.
# You are not a vault dweller but are given a Pip-Boy by someone who is one. You are a courier, left for dead and saved by a friendly robot.
# There is a screenshot of a vault suit as well.
# There is an assault rifle looking like the M4, as well as a new machine gun that shoots grenades.
# There are special moves for melee weapons in VATS ? specifically a move for a golf club called ?Fore!? which seems to be a groin shot.
# The Hoover Dam is in the game and is supplying electricity to the city.
# There is a quest to rescue a ghoul from some super mutants. The ghoul can then become your companion
# The Geckos are back.
# Skills have a bigger effect on conversation choices. E.g. someone with a high Explosives skill may be able to have a coversation about explosives where appropriate.
# Bartering is not just lower prices but negotiating for better rewards.
# All dialogue options are shown to all players, regardless of whether you have the stats to succeed or not, though there?s no punishment for failure.
# There is a Reputation system for each settlement like in Fallout 2 in adition to Karma.
# Followers can be managed through a context-sensitive menu, with orders like ?follow?, ?stay? or ?attack?.
# There are both dumb and intelligent super mutants, including the elite Nightkin.
# Some super mutants look similar to the ones in Fallout 3, while others are new. There is e.g. a female super mutant with a blonde 1950s style wig and heart-shaped glasses who apparently is one of their leaders.
# Screenshots include a guy with a beard and straw hat, a ghoul an NCR Ranger.
# The only picture of New Vegas itself is concept art and not a screenshot.
# Some location screenshots include a huge model dinosaur advertising a hotel, some satellite dishes, an array of solar panels.
# A character generation shot showing a ?vigour machine? instead of the skill book.
# NCR base is the McCarran Airport, Caesar?s Legion is based in the Vegas Strip, while super mutants are based in a place called Black Mountain. There is also a town called Fremont and another called Primm. A topless reuve is mentioned as being in the latter. Area 51 also appears.
# NCR Ranger armor is similar to a brown combat armor with sleeves, there are concept arts of a Ranger.

I don't mean to bash Fallout 3, but this one looks like it actually had some imagination put into it
As far as the story and gameplay are concerned this sounds amazing - hopefully this will be the game i expected F3 to be.

Excited about some of the locations too like Area 51 ^^

It's also been confirmed the gameplay will be like Fallout 3, not like 2 or 1.2010-02-08 01:53:00

This will be awesome. Hopefully, if there is DLC, it will be released simultaneously on all platforms this time. I just started playing FO3 again, too. Still haven't actually gotten to the Broken Steel DLC I bought. 2010-02-09 00:51:00

What happens in 'Fallout: New Vegas'
Glittering wasteland is latest locale

By Mike Snider
USA TODAY

Las Vegas survived Crime Scene Investigation and Wayne Newton, but it will never look the same after it gets the Fallout treatment.

In the alternate-history video game Fallout: New Vegas, coming to Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows PCs this fall (no price and not yet rated), the Las Vegas Strip and surrounding area in 2280 bear the effects of a nuclear holocaust more than 200 years earlier during a great war between the United States and China.

The mystery is, who are you in this nuclear wasteland?

At the outset of the game, your character is shot and left in a shallow grave in the desert, lifted of the package you were entrusted with delivering. A robot digs you out and takes you to a local caregiver, Doc Mitchell, who nurses you back to health.

"Unlike the previous Fallouts, where you start in a vault and you are a vault dweller, this one starts with a curveball," says Pete Hines of Bethesda Softworks.

The Maryland game publisher's release of Fallout 3 in October 2008 (rated M for ages 17-up, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360) resurrected one of the most popular franchises ever. The original Fallout, released in 1997 by Interplay, is consistently listed among the all-time top-rated computer games.

In those games, as well as in 1998's Fallout 2, the main character leaves a fallout shelter and roams an irradiated environment to perform missions. Fallout 3 let players explore a bombed-out Washington, D.C., populated with mutated humans and creatures.

Its mix of role-playing and first-person shooting game elements, as well as its elaborate and expansive story, earned Fallout 3 critical praise and several game-of-the-year awards. The game has sold about 4 million copies.

This time around, Bethesda Softworks will publish the sequel with development by Obsidian Entertainment. The staff of the Irvine, Calif., studio (Neverwinter Nights 2) includes several veterans of Fallout and Fallout 2.

"There is practically no one more qualified to make Fallout games," says Dan Stapleton of PC Gamer, which will feature the game on the cover of its April issue (in stores March 2). "Few people know the look and feel of the Fallout universe better."

The move to Las Vegas provides "a brand new, fresh experience that has a familiar feel of Fallout, but otherwise it's an entirely new game and a new look, with Joshua trees and tumbleweeds and blue skies," Hines says. "Vegas is up and running. It is not a ghost town. It still exists and thrives. There are casinos, and you can go down onto the Strip. It will have a very different feel from that standpoint."

Events in the game happen a few years after Fallout 3. No characters from that game appear, Hines says, "but you will eventually hear a little bit about the events" of that game. New Vegas is "a self-contained story. You don't have to have played the previous games to have any clue what's going on here."

At the game's outset, you get to customize your character by choosing gender, age, race, other attributes and skills. "You were a courier, and you were obviously carrying something that somebody wanted," Hines says. "Part of the story is finding out what you had and what they took."

As you explore, you must be savvy enough to play off the various factions seeking to control turf while you evade hazards such as gun-wielding super-mutants and giant bloodthirsty lizards. New Vegas' territory is similar in size to the area of the nation's capital in Fallout 3.

Says Hines, "It is a massive game world that will take you hundreds of hours to explore every nook and cranny."

Looks a little too familiar for my liking. Hoping it's not just some glorified DLC.

I hope it doesn't look like what's in those screenshots ._.

I want a proper Fallout game, not an expansion of Fallout 3. Infact i think solely the references to things in F3 have put me off completely, that's seriously how much i hated that game.

I can't wait for this game. I'm really glad they changed the dev team, since I sort of hated the devs of Fallout 3.
I certainly hope that they won't put that alien bull-sh*t in this game, since in Fallout 1 and 2 it was just a joke that F3 decided to canonise.
Also, I like the sound of that HC-mode and I'm glad we're back to the West coast. Wonder if Obsidian can pull of the same kind of feeling with Las Vegas as Black Isle did with New Reno in Fallout 2.

Judging from the things they promise to put in the game, it really sounds pretty awesome.
Here are some things I hope for this game:
- Un-canonise the alien crap
- Make A LOT better story than in F3
- Get decent voice acting and dialogue
- Make a dynamic world and let the actions of the player affect the world
- Weather would be nice
- NO LEVEL-CAP and THE SKILLS SHOULD GO UP TO 300

Anyway, can't wait 'till Fall.
