Is it possible to do this?

Archive: 4 posts

Hey everyone. I'm having a little trouble and need some help.

What I need to happen is the closer a mag key gets to the mag switch, the more a piston needs to retract - so when the mag key is close to the switch, the piston will be fully retracted. Similarly, the further the mag key gets away, the more the piston extends

I've been scratching my head for ages now and have come to the conclusion that its not actually physically possible. Am I right? Or is there some insanely complex logic that'll make it work. Or is the answer so simple its genius?

Thanks for any answers

Nearly everything is possible on LBP.

Here's my idea of how to do this:
-Set up about 8 mag switches and one mag key (the key that gets closer to pull the piston more).
-All those mag switches should be on one-shot mode and have a different radius on each one that shrink down in an order.
-The item that is retracted by the piston should have several winches on it, each winch goes a little further back in order. The winches are attached to the mag switches in order.
-When the mag key gets closer to the mag switches the key will trigger the one-shot on each winch, and it will pull the item with the piston a little further each time.

Another idea:
-Set up multiple mag switches again, and set each of onto a AND switch. That AND switch will trigger a time switch. A rocket that is on the piston-pulled item will be powered to a timed switch, so that it will turn on only seconds at a time.
-The piston-pulled item should move increments that way.
-To make it go a straight path, set it to a stiff spring.
+The same thing can be done with wheels instead of a rocket.

Most important thing to ask here is whether you need the key to be moving in one dimention or in both. i.e is it moving on the floor in a straight line, or up and down as well?

OK, this won't re-extend, but it will give you a kind of stepped motion if you use the variable length pistons method (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=16124-Variable-Length-Pistons-%28Stops-at-different-locations%29&highlight=variable+length+pistons).

The second option may work too, but tweaking it will be a nightmare as far as I can tell.

If you just need 1 dimensional motion then simply set up a sackboy tracker, the kind that uses an external three way, swap out the prox's for mag switches and simply output the three-way signal into the extra piston.

Hmm... if I use warlords method but only ill make the piston a tad weaker. Then if I attach a inverted directional switch to it, it will always want to go up. Would this work?

Cant get to my PS3 for a while so I can't check

EDIT: Yep it worked, thanks guys
