Well I just played a level that was a petition about restarting levels shouldn't be counted as plays. Well I thought of a way that could possibly fix this. You could keep the normal play counter but also have a play counter that only gives one play once for each unique user. This would help platforming levels and other non-replaying levels to get a shot at glory. This would also stop bomb survival levels and shark survival levels and all the other survival levels that at first are creative but then are copypasta like no other from devouring the first page. Also this would be a more accurate way of telling how many people played your level.

I think a lot of people believe this should have a higher weighting than it currently does. I say that because we do not know if it is currently taken into account. There is definitely knowledge of which users have played and which users have completed the level, therefore it is possible to extract the unique players, even if it is not visibly given to us. As for the argument that "restarting levels shouldn't be counted as plays": I can't get behind that. It a stupid thing to say and clearly just an overreaction to the fact that it currently has too high an impact on the algorithm. Yes, the importance of repeat plays should be diminished, but not removed completely. Take the following: Level A has 1000 plays, from 1000 unique users Level B has 1000 plays, from 300 unique users Which level do you think is better? The one that people come back to, or the one people play once and never ever want to play again. Both unique players and repeat plays need to be taken into account in the algorithm to get a clear picture.
