Your Least Favorite Story Level or Area

Archive: 88 posts

I don't know if this has been done before but what's your LEAST favorite story level or area?
Mine is the Metropolis. It wasn't the best in my opinion. It was just a little...long and just kept going repetitively...but it was still good, just not my favorite.

Metropolis: I just didn't feel it was done right. Subway and Lowrider are two of the most dull and visually meh levels. Construction site's the only good 'un in there. (and discombobulaminator )2010-02-07 09:33:00

I find the savanah levels not that interesting.
The storyline of that area is lacking
"What's wrong with the buffulow?"
"Where is a certian meerkat?"
The only good bit is the merrkat's that disapeer when you go near them

It's hard for me to pick an area I didn't like because I really loved everything about the story mode. However, if I had to pick, I guess it would be the Garden levels. Like I said, I still really like them, but they are basically the tutorial for the rest of the game and because of that, they are really simple. They still have a lot of charm though.2010-02-18 02:56:00

This is true! I'd probably pick gardens too overall. Just as MrSC said, I kind of see them as the tutorial for the rest of the game so that's why I didn't pick them. They do exactly what they're meant to, so it's hard to fault them for that.

At first, I'd have said the wedding, but then i'd have said the savannah, then the islands, but now i arrive at the metropolis. savannah has some great int music...love that cabanna trumpet solo.

Yeah, I'd have to say the Metropolis too, because barely anything happens in it. There isn't really any plot progression whatsoever, because all you do is save a car, and subsequently save a construction site. Thats not to say the levels are rubbish though.2010-02-19 07:39:00

Metropolis was kind of irritating.
The music in the construction site level was especially grating. Ugh.

The Tutorial level.

The only good level in The Gardens was the last one

The only good level in The Metropolis was the Construction Site

The Mines? Pshht. They were EASY.

As for an area, I HATED the Islands. If you asked me if I liked any of those I'd say the Terrible Oni's Volcano.

The Bunker. I HATE that level. I have yet to ace it.

Hmm, this is a tough one.
The Gardens? Well, like mentioned it is basically the tutorial, and it did look pretty, so I can leave that be.
The Savanna? It was a pretty interesting area, not like many other platformers have (I think), so I'll leave that as well.
The Weddings? That was one of the most unique things I've seen for a while, so I'll leave it alone.
The Canyons? The typical westerns world with a bit of a somewhat stylish twist, it's ok I guess.
The Metropolis? Haven't seen the idea in platformers for a bit, but nothing too amazing. As mentioned, it did feel redundant, so maybe for this one.
The Islands? It looked pretty, was pretty unique in concept and introduced the walking on thin boards concept (WHICH was a pain). It's pretty good.
The Temple? I can't remember much about this area because I didn't pay quite much attention to it. Did like the elephant alot though.
The Wilderness? A somewhat typical end world (it was presented in winter, so that was a nice touch) and it did serve it's purpose well, so.......

I guess I'd say.....the metropolis?

I found the first two Savannah levels too be very boring... i didn't like the Darkness, either, it was too slow paced. And terrible oni's volcano has great potential, but the flying around was just boring and repetitive. More volcano, less flying. 8D2010-06-01 02:57:00

I actually really enjoyed the story mode in the game. If I was to nitpick though, I'd say Gardens were great, really got you into the feel of the game and were enjoyable to play through. Savannah was great, though the Strip Club in the Meerkat tunnels felt really out of place in the game. Sorta ruined the innocence of it a bit. The Bride levels were awesome, though The Darkness was a bit boring. The Canyons was brilliant. The Metropolis was fun, slowed the pace down a bit. The Islands were brilliant, though the King Oni level could have done with less flying and more volcano. The Dancer's level and the Emitter Castle were great fun and the Bunker levels were fantastic, though the final level where you confront the Collector could have done with a less rushed ending. The boss battles were great, though.2010-06-18 13:39:00

My least favorite in the story levels was the second level in the Islands area. The whole level was pretty much the spinning wheels, which is possibly one of the most annoying platforming ideas ever. It was interesting when I first saw them, but when playing through that level for 100% completion, I couldn't take it anymore. It was just too dull and repetitive. Terrible Oin's Volcano was good I thought. The flying got redundant, sure, but it was so worth it when you reach that pretty awesome volcano and boss battle.

The rest were all good I thought. Metropolis was a bit boring when I first played them, but I've come to really appreciate both the style and the gameplay that was presented in those levels.

I think that as it's not mentioned that's what it is, it goes over a lot of peoples heads when they see it.

I know it did mine, I only realised what it was on the 2nd run through (corrupted data). I think it's partly 'cos at the time you're going "But how do I reach THOSE prizes up there? >"

I think it mighta' helped that I also at that point knew what real ones looked like, but I digress; I don't like the metropolis music really, it seems really downbeat and slightly depressing. I think that made me appreciate the first few levels less. Although I did love the Metropolis boss the 2nd most of all (behind the collector obviously )

The construction site:

First, because of the music;
Second, beacuse of the hanging platforms were you have to swing from one side to another, and then jump to a (much higher than you) platform.

Me? My worst level was the Introduction. One way or another, the "x" in "Rex" kept crushing me! In fact, I never got through it! Please help!?!

Ok, so not really. The hardest level in story mode, in my opinion, was Sensei's castle. I was in sick that day, so I played for like, 4 hours trying to get through it. I dunno if the sickness was putting me out of my element or what, but i was "[--] " that close to burning up my cold pack from frustration.

Get a grip - not a great level, just pushing things around.

Most of LBP1's story mode, because it's just not my style. I prefer more modern places, so I actually liked The Metropolis and The Wedding. The Canyons, Islands, and Savannah I just wanted to get over with because they were so lame. And don't even get me STARTED over Boom Town. I think I'll like The Wilderness too (except for the Bunker, which I doubt I'll even pass because I suck at LBP so bad. I had to 2player Boom Town to even complete it) but I haven't gotten past The Islands yet.
In order from most hated to least:
Most Hated - The Canyons
The Islands
The Savannah
The Gardens
Least Hated - The Metropolis
I can't place The Wilderness and Temples yet because I haven't gotten to them yet, but I think The Wilderness might be second-last and The Temples right after Islands.
(I liked LBP2's story much more, for the record)

I pick the Bunker too.
Worst area and level.
The wheel and the rest of the level is uninteresting to me.

Other levels are redeemed because they have so much character.
Its hard for me to stay mad at the fire snake and bomb carrying.
Boom Town and Dancer's Court both have really neat things in them.

My least favorite story level has to the Bunker, while The Collector's Lair is actually one of my favorites, because of the ingenious cage constructions. Although acing the Bunker turned out to be not that hard, making it through the level actually was. I just died far too many times down that wheel of death and the conveyer belt area. After the tenth time dying on the conveyer belt, while being so close, failing a couple of times on the wheel gets really old.2011-07-07 17:26:00

Boom Town: Obsessive use of fire and explosives.
Bunker: Obsessive use of spinning wheels and electricity.

For me, it goes like this;

-Skate to Victory (those Ghosts are haxxors, I swear). Thank God I've already completed this.
-Boom Town (it's exactly what it says on the tin). Also thank God this is completed.
-Serpent Shrine (some of the potetial deaths here are just so cheap). Aced it though.
-Dancer's Court (some degree of cheapness in places, which sucks when it's pretty much the second-longest level in the game). Aced it though.
-The Bunker (...).
