Heavy Machinery by LeuraZ

Archive: 33 posts

I decided to share some pictures of my latest creations. I've been working on several vehicles and machines based on their real life counterparts. They're quite big compared to the tiny Sackperson, but in my opinion, it looks nice that way, when there are big machines for Sackperson to operate.

Well, let's show you some pics, from oldest to latest:

This is my first one. A wheel loader, which is not based on anything particular machine. I learned alot while making this.
http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/zz320/LeuraZ/LBP%20Creations/My%20first%20one/Wheelloader.jpg
http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/zz320/LeuraZ/LBP%20Creations/My%20first%20one/Wheelloader2.jpg

My second one. PistenBully 600 Polar. I got the inspiration to model this after watching some skiing on television. I had to fight with the tracks, but got them working after a while. I also figured out, that the corner edit tool is very useful.
http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/zz320/LeuraZ/LBP%20Creations/PistenBully%20600%20Polar/PistenBully600Polar3.jpg
http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/zz320/LeuraZ/LBP%20Creations/PistenBully%20600%20Polar/PistenBully600Polar7.jpg

Let's move on to the third machine. Manitou MHT 10210 telescopic handler. This was quite a piece of...work. I had to tweak the boom quite much, before I got it to work. It also took some time to place all the pistons correctly on both sides.
http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/zz320/LeuraZ/LBP%20Creations/Manitou%20MHT%2010210%20L%20Turbo/ManitouMHT10210LTurbo1.jpg

Well, the fourth. Caterpillar 14M motor grader. This was a very straightforward machine to make, because all it has to do is move. Of course it has some moving parts, but the idea is simple.
http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/zz320/LeuraZ/LBP%20Creations/Caterpillar%2014M/Caterpillar14M28.jpg
http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/zz320/LeuraZ/LBP%20Creations/Caterpillar%2014M/Caterpillar14M2-1.jpg

http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/zz320/LeuraZ/LBP%20Creations/Caterpillar%2014M/Caterpillar14M11-1.jpg

Fifth. I like making material handling equipment, since they tend to have more moving parts (more problems), and they're more "useful", I could say. That's why I made the Kalmar DRF450-75C5XS reachstacker. This was also used in my entry to the CC09.
http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/zz320/LeuraZ/LBP%20Creations/Kalmar%20DRF420-60S5%20-%20Kalmar%20DRF450-75C5XS/KalmarDRF450-75C5XS11.jpg

And my latest one. It continues the same line as the previous. I've seen many forklifts in LBP and decided to make one more. Kalmar DCD320-12. This was quite easy to make after I made the reachstacker, since I could use the same cab and got the dimensions to match easier.
http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/zz320/LeuraZ/LBP%20Creations/Kalmar%20DCD320-12/KalmarDCD320-122.jpg

http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/zz320/LeuraZ/LBP%20Creations/Kalmar%20DCD320-12/KalmarDCD320-125_1.jpg

That's all for now. I haven't made a level for them all, but I guess I'll do a showcase of some sort, when I have some spare time. I also have to say that I've become addicted to the grid... It's your friend.

Update 26.2.2010

Just finished something new - HITACHI ZW220 wheel loader. I thought that I could give a try and make a proper wheel loader. There might be some improvement between my first wheel loader and this.

Before:

And after:

Update 2.4.2010

Ach, I've been quite busy with this one. A Volvo EW230C wheeled excavator. There's a lot of excavators out there, and now there's one more.

Starting point:

And finished machine:

Yeah, thanks. I try to make the details as well as possible. Of course I have to make some compromises sometimes. I'll take some container handling pictures soon. Of course you can try the reachstacker yourself, if you search for my CC09 entry under my PSN.2010-02-02 19:00:00

Thanks. For now I only have the PistenBully, Manitou and Kalmar reachstacker in my levels. I'm working on a level to go with the Caterpillar and planning a level for the forklift.

I took some pics for KernelM too:

No it doesn't. I made that when I just got the game, so I wasn't that experienced back then. The reachstacker, however, features that. Although it tends to go off-sync sometimes.

(Look world, leuraZ is the stig!!! )

Shhhhh...!! Or maybe I'm The Stig's earth-moving cousin (http://www.2dayblog.com/images/2007/february/tractor.jpg). ( >_< )

Oh, what's this going to be?

I still should try to focus on doing some levels for my creatures...

Well. Let me announce to you: I've made three showcase levels for my machines. They feature all of the machines, except the Manitou, since it has some issues with the pistons. You can still use the Manitou in "LittleBIG Logistics, though.

The levels are under the name "More Than Machinery 1 (2, 3)" You can find them by searching my PSN. Enjoy!

Thanks for the comments!

I thought about making a quick fit system for the Volvo, but it seems that it would have been difficult to make it small and durable enough. I might take the Volvo and try to make it some day, but as of now, I wanted it to be durable to withstand the abuse it might take. It's somewhat hard to get the tiny parts to last long, but I should try it when I've got more time.

Soulriver's excavator is also well detailed. I don't know if you modelled it based on any real life machine, but it still looks very real. The tracks also work very well. I'd however make the boom and arm a little bigger, as they now look somewhat small compared to the superstructure. Overall it works very smoothly.

You are a genius. How long did it take to make each one?

It takes about a month or longer. I begin to think what kind of machine I'm going to make and is it even possible to do in LBP. After that I try to find enough pictures and videos of the machine to make the machine as accurate as possible. After that it's just trial and error, when I'm trying to make a block of wood into a proper shape and get the whole machine working like it should. And oh yes, sometimes that can really get my blood pressure up high, lol.

You're welcome. I'm glad you got it working.

And now I've got a little something something:

A Junttan PM 25H pile driving rig

It still needs few details and a proper level to go with, but other than that, it's ready. I had to cheat with the tracks, since they really couldn't handle the weight and vibration. And because I can't even make good tracks in LBP. (My weak spot)

Some pictures for you to view:

Oh, well hello again, folks! I haven't forgotten you! Just managed to buy my copy of LBP2 in the middle of the week and thought it would just be the time to start building "little something something". I've been plowing snow like a madman for what, three months, I guess. Luckily it haven't been snowing that much now, so I guess I might just have time to get into LBP2.

And the little(?) something something. What's that gonna be?:

Almost. The size of this thing is close to a tugboat. However this thing prefers dry land over water.

It's getting its shape:
