Play.com - not spam lol - just asking advices

Archive: 14 posts

I'm interested in purchasing stuff from Play.com since there's a huge price difference between items that I buy in Italy.
There's at least from 5 to 10 ? on every CD and at least 14 ? for a PS3 game (ex. Dante's Inferno, 70? in Italy, 52 ? on Play; Star Ocean 70? in Italy, 39 ? on Play...), plus I don't have to go to the shops that are far from my home and grants me a good Saturday evening since it's the only moment in the week when I don't work (I own a shop too).

Well, I bought on ebay, and I found it good only for very very very rare stuff, otherwise I always shopped on Amazon.co.uk, and I'm quite pleased, so I wanted to know if any of you use to buy on play.com.

Is the service good for missing or broken items?
Do they deliver in time?
Do they grant the pre-ordered stuff for the release date? (I know that I won't ever have anything in Italy by the release date, but I'm curious)
Do they get the money from your credit card as soon as you finish the checkout even for pre-order, or do they wait to have the stuff on stock? (I need to know since I have that kind of Credit Crad not tied to a bank account, so I put money in it only just minutes before making the payment to avoid any kind of problem)
Then if someone is not from the UK, is the delivery free everywhere for everything?

Thanks in advance for every bit of help!

Okay Omega, play.com is a wonderful site!!

To answer some of your questions:

Service and packaging are perfect for me so far
They deliver in time but when you order 5 items for example, all of them are shipped seperately (free delivery for the win!!)
Your money is taken from your credit card, in stock or not.
Delivery is free ANYWHERE!! Really awesome!!
Books, CDs, Movies, its all free and it doesn't matter if you buy a single cd that costs 5 euros or whatever, its free!!
The only thing you and I can't order are gadgets. Those are UK-only.

I'm a very satisfied costumer, love play.com!!

Edit: if you really want to order gadgets though, you can find a friend in the UK and paypal him the amount it takes for him to ship it back to you.

Yup, it's a really awesome site ^^

Everything's really high quality n' all, from my experience the deliveries are so fast sometimes you'd think they were delivering it from just across the street (ok maybe not THAT good )

I have been a customer of PLAY.com ever since they started and they used to be reliable but they aren't any more.

They have let me down badly with my last 3 pre-orders now so I have stopped using them and will be buying from Amazon in future. 1 of my pre-orders never arrived at all and the other 2 were really late and they didn't even apologise when I rang about it so stuff them now.

1 It was when I had a missing item.
2 Usually on the day of release sometimes earlier.
3 My LBP dlc preorder code was sent during the release week.
4 They process the payment as the item is about to ship. e.g. If you order a game thats in stock the payment will be processed within 24 hours if you preorder a game thats not out for a few months they will not process the payment until it is in stock.
5 Doesn't apply to me so I dunno.

Omega, the prices of Play.com are better than italian ones (and i know well XD), but there are other sites with much better prices, like (i don't know if it's spam) ShopTo.com, thehut, zavvi... They have better prices, and you can pay in pounds there, and the change is good!2010-02-01 20:39:00

Try shopto.net, awesome site, really cheap, and you always get your games before release day. Play let me down on new releases a few times, some coming after the weekend. I've never had a problem with shopto.net for over a year now.2010-02-01 20:53:00

I'm very happy with Play.com for years now. Good prices, free delivery, and english manuals in stead of 6 continental ones all squashes in a little booklet.

The only downside it that they're really slow, at least to me in the Netherlands (though I suspect dutch customs is the biggest culprit); sometimes it takes two weeks to get here. But when I didn't receive one of my packages, they sent me another one.

This is the downside with all of these cheap internet sites. They just use standard mail and many of them are sending things through customs to get to you. If you miss the date ona preorder game, it's most likely down to the postal service, ditto if you get your pre-order early. It's just luck, and that is the risk you take for cheap prices. If you absoltely have to have the product on release day, you can pay a premium for guaranteed delivery, or go into a shop

Play have also sent me replacements with no questions asked if stuff hasn't arrived so this is always a bonus. I've actually been using then for about a decade, with only a couple of problems and they've always been good at sorting those out. I've also been using the hut for a little while now with no problems, but if you look around their customer service when things do go wrong is somewhat lacking by all accounts, though I can't say for certain.

Thanks to all of you guys!
I don't really care about one day delivery, I was only curious about it.

Yeah, I'm pondering on this right now. Normally I don't really care when I get it, but for Final Fantasy XIII I'm not sure if I want to wait...
