Pirate Legends: MaelstromTruePhilosopher
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=12209You've set out to sea in a barrel to become something more. You've craved action and adventure in your life so now it's time to live your dream.....to become a pirate and sail the seven seas! (I just finished a huge re-vamping/polishing of the stage.)
Hello there LBP Central community! I posted this level a while ago and I decided it was missing many things. So I went and redesigned some aspects and completely changed some others. I'm hoping it has vastly improved, but you all can let me know what you think! There are more pics of the stage in my profile!

well, im playing through it right now... so i'll give a play-by-play. and i apologize if i offend, but i dont sugar coat my feedback, i tell it straight because otherwise we don't improve.

so, onward... i love the intro, it's a great setup.

the evil fish thing got me... he is a persistant *******.... is there any way to kill him?

i love the pirates, the dialogue works well, and pulls you in.

lalala... the scenery, and sound effects through the forest are great. very well done. i was kinda afraid that i was going to get bit by a snake...

cool little waterfall... if you check out my hungry hungry capybara level i've got one that you might like too, but its a little bit heavier on the thermo. it looks fine the way it is, but you should check it out anyway.

okay... first bad point. the elevators with the masks...they are difficult to get on because you have a proximity switch directly linked to your pistons, and set as directional... for this, i would do one of 2 things... make a grab/pull switch to make these work, or put a delay switch in there. to do this, make a long piece of dark matter, and use a piston to make a block slide back and forth across it. then place a magnetic switch on the end of the dark matter, and the magetic activator on the block. set the piston to 4-6 seconds. then use your proximity switch to control the piston. use the magnetic switch set to directional to control the actual elevator. this will give the player time to get on the elevator before it starts going up.

if you dont understand that... i'll make a quick level to show you what i mean.

the area with the scorpion-rat-iquanas... i think the lights fell off the wall...

the giant rat-scorpion-iguana was pretty wierd... it seemed like ti was a boss battle, but there wasnt any epic-ness to it. maybe music, or lights and fire or something. (if this is a boss battle) otherwise... it's cool.

this whole area seems to be a bit bland compared to the rest of the level. not much decoration. I would recommend adding in some decoration in the foreground, use the thin plane on the front to add in some stuff to make it more visually appealing, i.e. pillars, railings, things of that sort.

at the end here i noticed that your stickers are doing that buggy thing if you wan to stop them from doing that, you can add more wall below the floor (make it kinda like an L shape) and the bug wil happen where no-one can see it.

overall a really good level! please note that i point out the flaws only so you can get those 5 stars that your effort deserves. below are your best points for the level in my opinion-

dialogue was fantastic! no non-deliberate spelling errors (they are pirates after all...)

the beginning was beautiful, great job with the design and decoration, sound effects and lighting. beautiful!

the poor points of this level...

it seems that once you got to the ruins, you were bored of making the level. the enemies were alright, but the scenery lost of flair. its a pretty stark contrast from your excellent visuals in the beginning.

i didnt find any bugs with the level, so it is built pretty rock solid. 5 stars from me!

if you feel like doing an f4f, please check out my level "don't be greedy" it's still in beta, so i need any and all feedback i can get. thanks!

Great name for a ship.

Played this tonight and it's cute. I like the opening the best. Very cute to get pulled up to shore. Nasty trick with the sackboy seeking electrofied fish things too. lol. Platforming was good and the section with the big red monsters with the spikes was a nice challenge. Not sure about all the yellow stickered turquoise material. Seemed a little flat there and in some other places. Still a very enjoyable level and I didn't encounter any problems with it. Nice work. Keep at it!

Thanks to both of you so far for your plays and feedback!

@TJapan: I don't like things sugar-coated and your kind of feedback is what I need. I put a ton of effort into the beginning as you pointed out. I tried to put in as much with the ruins area, however I ran into some buggy problems with that. If the lights fell off, that is one of the bugs I was experiencing. All my items began to come unglued with every new addition I would make, which got quite frustrating after a while. I would love to put some decor in the foreground, because that would add a lot of depth and feel to the ruins. I would also like to fix the elevator, but I was tired and having trouble figuring out the mechanics lol. I'm glad you liked my waterfall! I'll check yours out too. And I will give you feedback for your level as well! Oh by the way there's no way to kill the fish. You just have to run away!.....well swim.

@Morgana: Thank you for your nice comments! I'm glad you enjoyed the level and I will try to work on it asap to improve the experience even more! As is this level took forever to make lol, but I'm definitely willing to do what it takes to get it polished properly.

seriously guys, this level looks great, and with some feedback and a bit of time i think this level would be a fun addition to anyone's hearted list.

of course that means that TruePhilosopher is gonna have to get back in there and get his hands a bit dirty! let us know when you've updated it again, and i'll go back through and give it another shot.
