LBP beta 1GB... Full game over 40GB!
Archive: 21 posts
The beta has so much content. There's so many amazing custom levels already. How could they possibly multiply that by 40!? I really can't wait for this! | 2008-09-28 16:04:00 Author: Killian Posts: 2575 |
Think about it There's another 47 levels (ish), to add in, plenty more tutorials I'm sure, voice overs, all the new items and content and everything, tons of new features Pretty easily really | 2008-09-28 16:09:00 Author: DrunkMiffy Posts: 2758 |
Also beta audio could have been compressed to make downloads more reasonable in size. | 2008-09-28 16:12:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
I'm just worried that out of the 40gb most of it will be video for the tutorials... Any one else share that worry? | 2008-09-28 16:50:00 Author: alexbull_uk Posts: 1287 |
Nah, it won't I guarantee you. There's gotta be like 30-40 tutorials already on there, included with all the content that's in the beta. It's absolutely huge, considering the size. | 2008-09-28 16:56:00 Author: DrunkMiffy Posts: 2758 |

She's called Nariko lol xD I think you get Kratos through OPM-UK magazine. Nariko, not too sure. /offtopic Why would most of the 40gb be tutorials O_o Lol, they've pretty much explained all we need in the Beta =D (No offense to non-betars -_-). Anyway, I can't imagine the number of Objects/Stickers we'll scroll through once we get 100% on the full game. | 2008-09-28 19:28:00 Author: Forsaken Posts: 950 |

Ok, stupid question, BE PREPARED! Since I don't have a PS3, 40 GIG seems a HELL OF A LOT to me. 40 GIG? My PS3 will be 80... That's half gone to 1 game? I'm pretty sure I'm wrong but anyone want to explain this? | 2008-09-28 20:53:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |

The install to your PS3 will probably not be much larger than 2GB (5GB tops, but I doubt it) | 2008-09-28 21:00:00 Author: Linque Posts: 607 |

It's not like a PC install. It's usually a few Gigs. I think I saw that the install for LBP would be 500MB-1GB though. Heck, I have a 40GB PS3, and I think that's enough. I'll just delete installations if I really need space. | 2008-09-28 21:04:00 Author: Forsaken Posts: 950 |
40Gig PS3 FTWWWWWW. Lol. Anyway, I hope they just cram as much as they can onto that unworthy Bu-Ray disk. | 2008-09-29 02:53:00 Author: Unknown User |
40Gig PS3 FTWWWWWW. Lol. Anyway, I hope they just cram as much as they can onto that unworthy Bu-Ray disk. Which reminds me, anyone know why they stopped making the cool PS3s with all the USB ports and media card slots and PS2 backwards compatibility?? The new 80 GB one is just the 40 GB model with a bigger hard drive. Elton | 2008-09-29 02:57:00 Author: Eptiger Posts: 128 |
If you take a look at the LittleBigBang (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=2130) video, you can see that later on in the video, and marked in the MediaMolecule post, there's mentioned "plans" which are essentially exactly what every single object in the game is that players use or are otherwise inside levels. If you look at it, you can see a TON of plan "stars" all around the place. So yeah, those are definitely going to be a very big chunk. Plus, just looking at the overall build of LittleBigPlanet in the video, it's not hard to see why 40 GB is necessary for the game. | 2008-09-29 03:28:00 Author: Mark D. Stroyer Posts: 632 |
I really hope that most of the 40 Gigabytes are more TOOLS, rather than levels :/ | 2008-09-29 03:40:00 Author: Stix489 Posts: 2080 |
I really really dont think it's actually got 40gb of content on there? The levels are pretty small for sharing and if they had that many textures and things you would be limited in what you could use in a level due to memory. | 2008-09-29 12:37:00 Author: flappybat Posts: 6 |

The new 80 GB one is just the 40 GB model with a bigger hard drive. Elton Apparently, it was driving up the price in a way they didn't want to do, it wasn't as necessary to them, and I think there was something wrong with some of them due to some older tech. Pretty much, though, they cut it out to drop prices. But yeah, it is kinda disappointing. I really really dont think it's actually got 40gb of content on there? The levels are pretty small for sharing and if they had that many textures and things you would be limited in what you could use in a level due to memory. Well, the levels themselves are rather small, but that's because everything inside the level is actually a reference to something else. It doesn't include every detail on how an object works, it simply says "this object here, with these dimensions". Materials, objects, enemies, stickers, everything, they're all just different "plans" as seen in the video I posted above. The plans themselves, which detail the objects themselves, are what makes it big. | 2008-09-29 16:33:00 Author: Mark D. Stroyer Posts: 632 |

They just save the vector coordinates or something, so it takes up less space on the server (makes for quicker download & play), and the PS3 just rearranges them once you play it. | 2008-09-29 16:36:00 Author: DrunkMiffy Posts: 2758 |
I have it on good authority (cant find source at the moment) that a lot of the 40gb size is actually high definition audio like the voice-overs for the tutorials as some of you may know true high-def audio takes up massive amounts of space (although i doubt they have scrimped on content). Edit found a source - www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/littlebigplanet-fills-up-blu-ray-disc/ Anybody who thought that the PSN-friendly nature of LittleBigPlanet meant the game could be offered as a downloadable title will probably dash that dream when they find out the game takes up 40GB. In an interview with GI.biz, developer Alex Evans explains the game will be "filling up" the Blu-ray disc. Evans explains there's a lot of tutorial content in LittleBigPlanet, narrated by Stephen Fry for English audiences. As we've learned in the past from Heavenly Sword and Ratchet, it's the (uncompressed and/or multi-region) audio that takes up a significant amount of space on the Blu-ray. Evans expresses that thanks to the Blu-ray, file size hasn't been a concern. This loose attitude to size for the disc's contents will not be applied to the player-designed content, however, which Evans says is "relatively compact." | 2008-10-03 21:42:00 Author: marc146 Posts: 11 |
