Haunted Village of Babasackalonfelasi
You are a citizen of Babasackalon, and you've just learnt that the evil spirit Dhaka has been summoned!
Dear community members,

I finally finished a level I had been working on, Haunted Village of Babasackalon. In this level you learn that the evil jinn spirit, Dhaka, has been summoned. After a trip through the dungeons, you investigate to see if this is true. Its my first real level, and I tried to concentrate on attending to all the necessary details, i.e sound, not getting stuck, workable gadgets, etc... so I would appreciate your honest feedback and criticism. I hope your reviews can help me go on to create better levels, like some of the masterpieces out there! Best, felasi

Just tried it.

The design of the level is very nice and actually puts me in mind of the MM story levels which is always a good thing because that is the best look for lbp imho. The story line was simple and yet effective and even if you skipped through all the text simply getting through it was a fun experience.

However there were some little things, which are not complaints just observations.

1. A few cheap deaths. This is the kind where the player is walkign along and suddenly falls down some hidden hole and dies. This happened on 3 occaisions with me and it would be nice to have some sort of warning, even if it is an obscure one.

2. The red sponge lift thingy that takes you up to the bit of text telling you that you are near the haunted village thing (the one directly after the platform lift) got stuck at the top after I had rode it up. I then died and got teleported below with no way back up and had to restart.

3. Some of your dissolve material is showing. I easily avoided atrap near the start and I think everyone who plays it would do so as well. You could easily fix this with a sticker or something to hide it

Great thanks for your review and comments Cthulhu82!

I guess since it was one of my first real levels, im still drawing alot of inspiration from the orignal story levels. Im glad that text didnt bog you down, since that always puts me off, so thats good it you enjoyed the flow.

Thank you for your observations, i appreciate any feedback (since I know my level is far from perfect!).

The trap deaths I guess I may have overdone, There was a speech warning, but in some places it is a bit obscure.

I know which sponge your talking about, it was much more severe beforehand and I did amend it however it may need to be tweaked up just a little bit more.

I tried to hide the dissolve material with decorations, but perhaps i should actually put a dark sticker over it, thanks for the tip.

Again appreciate your comments and taking the time to play the level, i hope you did enjoy it and ran away in time before Dhaka caught you

Regards,

Lol, no actually my silly sackboy refused to jump over a tiny platform that he should have been able to do in his sleepso the Dahaka got me.

As for hiding the dissolve, in my Topsy-Turvy Redux level I took a photograph of the materials I used for the walls and floor so that I could use them on the dissolve to blend them in with the floor so they are harder to spot. They are still a bit discoloured so if you look you can see them but if you run through quickly you shouldn't really notice them.

Oh and perhaps you should use a global light effect when you get near the Dhaka to make it feel more spooky, a dark red colour wash would be nice.

**** Dhaka!

I'm not to confident with the global lighting edits yet (another way for saying I was being very lazy) but I will have to try it out in up and coming levels. Thanks again, I will be sure to check topsy-turvy redux out!
