Commmunity Contests without XP
Archive: 21 posts
OK, not exactly site feedback as we know the experience system has gone (it's still gone right, I didn't miss an update?) but there isn't exactly a better place for this. If my new project goes off as planned I should have cause for a highscore competition sometime soon and I'm wondering if anyone has ideas for what rewards / incentives can be offered? Anyone? | 2010-01-29 13:19:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
You could give away some objects/logic stuff that isn't in any of your levels as prizes. I'm sure you've got plenty of stuff lying around. | 2010-01-29 13:23:00 Author: TripleTremelo Posts: 490 |
For the caption contest, I'm just writing i.o.u's for when xp does return. That said, also planning a bigger contest myself right now, that one will have real, tangible prizes. Real prizes cost money though... | 2010-01-29 13:24:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |

You could always give away locks of your hair... I'm sure I would-- everyone would like that. What is kinda ironic is we had a discussion about baking cookies, but well.. we were afraid if we got hair in them that nobody would want them. Strange how these things work themselves out!! | 2010-01-29 17:42:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |

Short of real money/stuff prizes - I like the idea of giving away objects you've made in LBP. Especially from you rtm223. Maybe you win your unique logic services for a custom logic piece or something..... talk about priceless! | 2010-01-29 17:56:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Grrrrrr, I had so much XP as well I could give out logic pieces, but then that either relies on me having sometihng that people want, or that enough people want... In which case I'm just gonna have everyone asking for it afterwards and if I'm willing to give it to one person then I may as well give it to everyone. Plus anything particularly interesting I have tends to need a lot of instructions As for real prizes, I wouldn't mind doing that if It were a bigger thing, like a level competition, but for a highscore contest it doesn't seem right. Anyone want my hair?? *watches tumbleweeds* BTW morganna: Don't mess with Morgana or you get the wand With there being a wink after that I can't tell if it's a good or a bad thing? Is "getting the wand" something I might enjoy? | 2010-01-29 19:22:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
well, that depends on what kind of person you are It's actually a quote from FlareSkull from the beta. He said I should use it in my signature. As I have yet to have to "wand" anyone I'm not exactly sure what it would entail. I imagine some kind of magic smack down of sorts. | 2010-01-29 19:28:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
^^^ All I can imagine is that if I get "wand", I'll probably turn into some tumbleweed or chili-dog or somethin'. The only problem I have with giving away objects as prizes is that people never really use them (but rather use their own), and that if they do, they're subject to stealing or copying and can lead to them getting "Good-Grief"d for such. I mean, sure, I'd definitely wanna give away something like my steamboat in a major competition, but will it ever be used? Even more important, what if he/she claims it as his/her own? And finally, what if they just delete it? That's a slap to the face right there. I know I can't make any assumptions or anything, but there really isn't much we can do about this until (if ever) xp gets back online. | 2010-01-29 20:29:00 Author: Outlaw-Jack Posts: 5757 |
I've got about 5 PMs in my inbox regarding XP, which I am holding on to until the system is updated or we move to a new system. All XP will be handed out eventually - I.O.U.s will be honored. | 2010-01-29 22:19:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
RTM, you can also offer to optimise logic in someones level. lol. Or give an ingame tutorial on how to use extremely advanced logics. | 2010-01-29 23:34:00 Author: Luos_83 Posts: 2136 |
There's really only one thing that you- or anyone, can offer right now that would be considered valuable to anyone-- and that's your time! XP was easy! That's why its missed. Offer to 'Ghost-OP' an OC level... that may pique some interest across all sorts of demographics... as I see it: For a noob creator, It would instantly net a much wider audience and more expousure than ever before imaginable since... everyone here would know you were heavily involved, and the rabid ravenous masses must be fed their rtm. For the already established creator, the sheer pleasure of your company would be payment enough... Either way, you are a guru and part of the Logic Pack, You've taken puzzles to the 5th (aqua) level, and you were nominated for the Level of the Year Sackie. Yeah your time would be monumental. | 2010-01-30 00:30:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
You could always give away locks of your hair... I'm sure I would-- everyone would like that. Yes, i want a lock. You could give away 3 leaf clover for luck! | 2010-01-30 03:13:00 Author: Emogotsaone Posts: 1030 |
You could give away some gameshare data for your crown. lol. | 2010-01-30 06:35:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
CC, when XP comes back, is it likely that we will get back all of the XP that we had before, or will we be looking at a reset scenario? | 2010-01-30 14:04:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
From what I have read on the subject, it is all still there and once we get the replacement it will add in any XP activity up to that date and then be current. So from that, it sounds like we are just missing the front end to manage, view, and update current activity. So the database is still intact and hopefully it is a painless upgrade to whatever the new stuff is for CC. | 2010-01-30 16:26:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
Is xp still being fixed or are we waiting for another VB update? | 2010-01-30 17:18:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
I think it's not TOP on our prioritys right now but would be nice to have | 2010-01-30 17:33:00 Author: Kern Posts: 5078 |
From what I have read on the subject, it is all still there and once we get the replacement it will add in any XP activity up to that date and then be current. Yeah that's what I thought it would be. I'm guesing it's just a third party plug-in module kinda job so we will just have to wait for it to get ported to the new version of the main software. | 2010-01-31 17:00:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
