*-*Attack of the BORG*-* "Part 5: The Human Invader!" *SPOTLIGHTED*

Archive: 27 posts

Well this fell out rather quickly!

Ok So I first want to mention that any ideas/pre-conceived notions you may have about Star Trek wont really apply here! This is not your Fathers BORG!

For my series I have used the Star Trek Universe in general while always making it my own. So if you go in expecting to see certain characters you may be sorely disappointed. For my Series I have traveled 500 years in the future so things may not look like you remember. I believe this is my BEST level yet! I know I said this was gonna be the BOSS battle...BUT I changed my mind! That will be next episode which will end the series. *Special thanks to Vanemiera for his inspiration to 'Build it Bigger'*

Episode description:

You are now on the BORG vessel trying to free your captive crew mates. Who knows what danger and surprises await you! There are 8 listed secrets and 3 bonus secrets to find which give you extra points. *Platforming, Puzzles and just a hint of humor!*

**NEW BORG DRONES! Designed by Morgana25** (with just a little tweaking from me

*Important to note!: In the last room before the scoreboard - you may believe it is broken or think I forgot something...BUT trust me you can solve the puzzle of the secrets*

Pics for your pleasure:

Well this fell out rather quickly!

You're telling me! I'll play this tonight when I get back on the PS3, what I saw before you finished was great stuff.

Horray! I've played this three times already and I like it more each time. Love how you tweaked the Borg too. Much better than my roughed out versions. They look great! I've got three secrets left to find... you and comphermc sure know how to hide those things! I found his though, now I just gotta work on yours

Excellent platforming as always and the lighting came out great. Grant should like this one too as you've got the backtracking technique down pat in this one. Oh and the Trekkie in me would be remiss not to point out that I love how you've blended old Trek and new Trek... red matter ftw!

No complaints other than these always come to an end too soon for me - I want more!

Thanks for your Help with the new DRONES!
And I did very little tweaking to them really (I did remove the lasers to save space but not too much else)
Thanks for your feedback before release and for playing it 3 times already

Well, it sure is another worthy addition to the series!!

I think you already know what I think about so I'll keep it short:
great gameplay, great graphics, a brilliant continuation of the series!!

5 stars and a well deserved heart, well done!!

Thanks Zwollie!

Glad you and the others seem to like it
I do as well. this is the first 1 I wanted to keep playing even after publishing (but since I did this in what 3-4 weeks I havent played through it as much as the others which took twice as long to make)

Very nice level again! I am impressed at how much you can cram in there. I mean, that one was so complex, so busy looking, it was really impressive. The maze-like part to activate the 4 red things was really good. Maybe because it's late over here but I almost got lost! lol
I only missed 2 secrets and got the third score it seems. I love those platform you grab to get points and you secret designs in general. Also, those green block you slide out to reveal a hole or door is really cool.

I don't have much con buddy, your level is really well-made albeit a bit complicated and sometimes a bit too busy looking. Your eye sort of get lost but at the same time it forces you to not play the game like a complete vegetable and turn your concentration back on.

Thanks for your comments! I must say that I am a bit surprised over all...it is getting a chilly reception it seems. I have had only 68 plays with about 18 people finishing it.

I thought this was my most advanced level yet...as far as gameplay is concerned. I have removed the witty banter of the BORG at the begining. The thing i think that must make this less enjoyable is all the text in this one...In part 1 i wanted to build the series so I made it low on text and signage so the visuals would grow as you played through the other parts.

Right now it sits at 3 stars with a lousy tag as one of the top 3...this is very dishearting

I am also wondering if I am beating a dead horse and should move on to new subject matter...what do you guys think?

grr

As soon as you get out of mainstream style, complexity or difficulty with your gameplay you will receive 3 stars. Its quite unmistakeable now. You'll get used to it though I can understand that it makes us pop the question "was this level a fail?" in our minds. The levels I made since last summer are all 3 stars and they are my best stuff really. Crazy Train would also be 3 stars if people weren't impressed by the novelty of my train with multiple scrolling backgrounds and A Bark In The Dark would probably be 3 stars too if people weren't impressed by the fact I made a sidekick for Sackboy.

Anyhow, what I think is that you should continue to make the levels you feel like making. That's all.

Thanks Ranger that does make me feel somewhat better I did delete it and republished it and while it doesnt have many plays ATM it has 4 stars. I do agree with your sumation though...I am not gonna worry about it...well I will try not too I have deleted some of the text just to help with the flow a little better and made some more tweaks here and there so I hope it is good to go now!

Thanks again.

Hi AJ. I love this level. And I agree with Ranger, build what you like...after all, we do this for ourselves first, and if it appeals to a handful of galactic galavanters, then you've done well indeed.

Regarding my PM about the lift next to the platform that you said was a bit unstable, I was going to jump on the lift first, but noticed the platform that would allow me to reach the score bubble. As I ran to the platform, Lady said to go back to the lift and jump up and grab the triangle material (silver and red felt) to see what happens. When I did, the lift took off and did not return, so I was stuck at that point, since I had activated the checkpoint in that area. I was thinking you could make the lift bi-directional to avoid that issue. Even so, I will play the latest repub version and get on your scoreboard.

Keep up the GREAT work!

FYI, Even though I am finished (basically Thermo-restricted...tried adding a light and got the "Your level has Overheated" warning with the pulsing red thermometer), I will be holding off on repub'ing Takken until after you and jww have your 7 day shot at Cool Levels. Probably not a good idea to have "3" space adventures being published at the same time.

Next time we're ON at the same time, I'll send you an invite to play it.

Later,
Rick

You both are right...it is my love of building that inspires me to continue creating. Glad you liked it though!

OK if I am honest about my lift (and my logic abilities) I would have to say that my elevator is a total cheat! It is much more involved than my previous lifts though. I am not sure how to make it (with it's current design) be bi-directional. After you find the switch to open the door to the Bonus room you are instructed to re-enter the lift to go down to the bonus room. This is achieved by automating the process (meaning: when you approach the lift a sensor opens the door) (require all is the setting for the switch) allowing you time to enter and then moving to the level below (done by dissolving the switch that was set to directional that took it to the top in the 1st place) then emitting dark matter to stop the lift at the desired level. If you know how to do it the way your speaking of please by all means stop by and help or teach me!

Well I hate that I am in anyway restricting your ability to publish your level when you feel it is ready. I do agree that it does not seem to hurt the plethora of Bomb levels! So I think you should by all means post away. Maybe our posts will inspire comparison so they will feel compelled to play them all And I would love to play it and look it over in create mode as well...also I would be happy to show you (in create) any of mine you would like to see.

Thanks again!

I played it just, another excellent addition to the series. It looked fantastic as always, great lighting and use of materials. The borg at the start were awesome, pure LBP style and made me chuckle. The maze like layout of the level was impressive, and the puzzles and platforming fit in perfectly.

I was a little confused at first, with the red buttons being used for secrets in earlier levels, but I soon got the hang of it. And I could'nt work out what to do at the end, plus I missed 3 secrets so I'll return to replay soon.

Awesome level, looking forward to 5

5* and hearted, awesome job

I see your dilemma with the lift...If I understand you correctly, the lift must operate in both directions for Sacky, rather than take him somewhere and then leave him there, with the lift returning to it's original position. In your case, the lift must be directional, but this could be accomplished by activating the lift with a Magnetic Key Switch set to bidirectional, then emitting a Magnetic Key whenever you need the lift to move for Sacky. The Magnetic Key would have to be made of dissolve material, which is dissolved by Sacky passing a proximity switch placed in an area where you can be sure Sacky is where he is supposed to be.

I thought about publishing at the same time as you guys, but my thoughts are the "Rip-n-Goers" (the kids trying to squeeze in as many levels as possible before bedtime) will quickly grow bored with 3 space levels, and mischief may consume them, with irreparable damage being done. It's tough enough getting a true rating, when we have to contend with the morons who have no clue what we have to go through to create levels such as ours, and rate us low because they can't figure out what they are supposed to do. I think I'll wait, to be on the safe side.

Well I can say that I at least understood what you were saying. (so I know I'm learning!) BUT the other component of the elevator is the turning triangle...this is what activates the elevator door to open and close...when you approach the lift a prox sensor activates the door to raise once you get in you grab the floor, this actually dissolves a mag key and triggers the door to close, once closed it heads up to the top. Once you have found the "bonus room' switch a new prox sensor is moved into place so when you near the lift again it opens and goes to the floor below...so long story short! (too late) I'll have to sit a think how to incorporate your idea (which I like BTW) with what I have going on...unless I just redesign it altogether! LOL

Thanks for your advice and comments! Let me know when you want me to have a play on the redo

This is a great level. I can’t believe it has less than 100 plays. It’s enough to make you despair! It deserves so much better.

I loved the gameplay. The first time I played it was pretty late at night and I did get a bit lost at times but nothing to make me want to give up on it. Playing through a second and third time, everything made a lot more sense. I think it’s a level that grows on you as you get to know it better. For one thing there are so many lovely details in there that you couldn’t appreciate it fully on just one run through anyway.

The puzzle elements were excellent – nice and challenging. It was only at the third attempt that the penny suddenly dropped about that section right at the end and then I was left wondering what had taken me so long to catch on, lol! I’ve got 2 more secrets to find so I’m sure I’ll be back for more!

A really fun level. Now I’ll just have to go back and play all the others in the series as this was the first one I came across. If they’re all as good as this one, I’m in for a treat.

5 stars and hearted.

It is always good to hear such comments but even more so when it's someone who hasnt seen your stuff before
I clicked the link next to your name to return feedback but nothing was listed...is this the case or is there somewhere else I should be looking?
Thank you very much in any case and please leave comments on the level itself when you play the others...i would really like to know what you think of them. The platforming is a bit tricky but I dont think any of it is impossible...Part 2 I think is the trickiest.

If there is anything I can return feedback on let me know or in the future I will be happy to comment.

Thanks for the offer but I've absolutely no talent for creating. I just enjoy playing other people's work!

Btw, my husband asked if you could please make a Borg that looks like Seven of Nine...but that would just be weird...

Greetings AJ!

I had played this awhile back, but I wanted to revist and refresh my thoughts a bit.

Actually this was a quite awesome level! I like the design and construction quite a bit. Actually even a bit more than the redo of #1. Very clean lines and use of materials was quite nice. I probably tend to build a bit darker and with less flashy bright bits, but this is the Borg cube after all!! Fun puzzles and amazing puzzels and well hidden thoughtful secrets!! Really enjoyable!

One of the only issues I had was some of the last bit with all the locks you had to do, I got a bit confused after I got them all. In returning back after completion to be able to proceed, I died in one of your bits and where I spawned in I had no idea where I was in relation to where I had begun the venture to the lower door. So I dunno if possibly a portal in that area might help avoid that or not.

Cute and fun humor and a pleasure to play. Great job!

5 stars and a heart! So sorry this came so late to you as I have been a bit busy catching up on all my other work after completing my level!!

Thanks jww!

I was a bit worried with all the Space levels out in the last 2 weeks I would be swept under the rug! I appreciate your playing and commenting on mine!

I have been tweaking all weekend and adding very subtle hints. I am not a fan of "Go here, now do this" kind of stuff...nor do I really like to use the infinite life check points either...BUT...I did use some in this one as I don't want people to give up right at the end. I think my hints (all visual BTW) are very "If you look around and pay attention you will figure out where to go next" kind of stuff.

I design (Hopefully) something that is unique both visually and gameplay wise, and fun to play.

My decor is done the way it is for 2 reasons:
1. I like the look of it!
2. I am no artist!

This is my most involved and thought out work to date...and of that I am proud. I give all due credit to Gruntos for his never ending backtracking and layer work for inspiration here!

Thanks again!

It's been SPOTLIGHTED!!

Fantastic job recreating the borg cube. The gameplay elements fitted very well with theme. The final part of the level seemed to be a bit confusing during searching for the switches to activate and where to go after they were all activated. After a few wrong turns I managed to find the correct paths though. All the other puzzles were brilliantly thought out and enjoyable to do. Now I need to find all the secrets. 5 stars and hearted. well done!2010-02-08 21:57:00

Ok so you didn't have F4F in your thread and I am pleasantly surprised your returning feedback...Thank you really for doing so!

After having a look at your ultra detailed environment you created for Dead Space, I almost feel like hiding this level from you! lol

I am glad you liked it, and sorry you found it a bit confusing. I for some reason thought that breaking that segment up into 2 parts was going to make it seem simple...wrong!

From the feedback I have gotten I would say it it still a bit overwhelming. BUT you found your way through. And I hope you had a fun time doing so!?

Thank you for your feedback!

So after much thought about how I can make it easier to navigate my level without getting lost I think I have a compromise that helps the player while not giving away All the keys to the Kingdom.

I looked at Gruntos level and as large as it is I never really felt lost. I figure that is because each enviroment is recognizably different even though they are similar in design...long story short...

Now Level 1 is green and Level 2 is red and once the 4 relays have been tripped there is a reveal of the exit path to help guide the way.

I hope these changes will lessen confusion but add appeal!

Sorry it's taken me so long to post my comments.

You've sure come a long way as a creator since the first episode. The level of detail is impressive.
I think I was able to find 5 of the secrets. I really like the idea of putting an indicator at the end of the level so I am able to tell how much I missed.
I had a little trouble telling where to go next in the red/green area, but that was partly my own fault.
I'll be excited to check out the last episode.

4 stars and a heart.
