Advanced Lighting Levels
Archive: 8 posts
I'm a sucker for lighting. To me, it's one of the most important factors when it comes to creating a level. In my own levels, I've tried to use light in clever ways, and i was wondering: What other levels and creators would you recommend, that use light in cool and clever ways? Lights out! | 2010-01-27 15:02:00 Author: javi haguse Posts: 744 |
Well, there were these two levels called "The Descent" or something that were just okay... you may like them... Then, there was this level called "All Mine!" that was just really cool all around... --- Seriously, two creators come to mind: Julesyjules and Morgana25 | 2010-01-27 15:13:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Hey Javi! Good to see you around here! I have a couple recommendations for levels with cool lights, although you may have played them already: The Origami Killer(Spotlighted episode 31) - the design is crazy amazing and has some cool lighting effects with a storm Celestia: An Age Abandoned (Spotlighted episode 31) - it features a night/day system, and I especially like the night time .. the ending has a nice surprise as well Well, there were these two levels called "The Descent" or something that were just okay... you may like them... I'm a sucker for good lighting too Javi. Yours are excellent for dark, moody and downright scary lighting. Oh and Flares & Nightvision are epic win (to quote the kids.) Comphermc's All Mine is lit great too. Anytime the fire looks hot, someone knows what they're doing with lighting. (btw, fire - my favorite thing to light up) Some others I can think of would be..... Northern Witchcraft - BasketSnake Honeyland - BasketSnake Below the Root series - mindphaser74 Tye Dye! - Jaeyden STAR WARS: series....err...Etc! - julesyjules Lost Temple of Anubis - Nattura Attack of the BORG! Series - AJnKnox Pinball Wizzard 1: The Great Pinball Adventure by Loius/Allieran The Count Of St. Claire Island by graygoose LittleBigFallout: New York City In Ruins by Aurongel Mars Attacks series - GrantosUK FALSE IDOLS III: Epiphany - NinjaMicWZ SteamVille by Art_of_Tyler The Things that go Splat in the Night by Loius Devil May Cry Series - KoRnDawwg The Tribe by phife211 Sackventure by Mother-Misty Forbidden Sacrifice by Coreymill Puzzle Island by chillum007 A Royal Love Letter 1 - The Swampy Death by Luke/Mamett-box Lost Ages series - deftmute Beware the Jabberwock by fullofwin/Elvenbane Manufactured Madness by mrsupercomputer The Miracle of Life by poms The Descent series - javi_haguse The Spirit Passage by Aurongel Destiny! by CCubbage Night of the Monsters! by SLS10 The Good, The Bad, The Sackboy... series by wexfordian Sci-Fi World Ex by mdaj Gothic Reverie series by Ungreth Lightbringer by Trindall Buddha's Lost Temple by Fr0d0_FragginS79 Snakes on a Dame by wexfordian Stardust! by Jaeyden THE TRIBE: PART 2 by Phife24 VAGRANT HERO (series of levels) by GEK83 Sacky Potter and the Philosopher's Sponge by Nuclearfish Castle of the Witch Queen: Part One by Bercilak Cheese in the Dark by Aselrahc The Lost Temple of the Sunstone by Aselrahc The Temple of Energy by halomcap Post-apocalyptic by antpostteller Thirst For Adventure by SLS10 Nirvana by chazbell/xCHAZBEARx Swinging silhouette by anpostteller Whispers in the Darkness by shindol Who's Stealing Our Delicious Delicious Brains? by Argon_Vile Rat Alleys by hallm3 Anything done by Faith_rip The Mine series by standby250 The Land of Crumb & Land of Crumb 1 & 2 by Aselrahc Hearts for Heroes 2 - Swampa by TOBSn08 A Bark In The Dark by RangerZero Dead Memories - Part One by RoseScythe Submarine Sabotage [From the Water Beta] by wexfordian, Fullgorr and Jaeyden Little Gypsy Circus by dajdaj03 The Wizard of Time and Space by Fullofwin Sleeping Beauty by TOBSn08 LBL: Fairytale - Ali Baba and the Forty Point Bubbles by CaptainCowboyHat Tactical Mission H4 by warlord_evil No Peg's Island by Shris & Lunieizsicc Sack, The legendary: Level 3 of 13 by Luos_Desruc Flooded Castle by Chicoleunis Celestia: An Age Abandoned by Powershifter Elemental: Temple of Fire & Water by Shawneboi Each of those either uses light in a way to further the story, set a mood or enhance gameplay. They all have very different ways of doing this too. I tend to like levels that use light in a very painterly or theatrical way. Light is used to paint with as I like to say. Why sticker it if you can light it up?!? So yea, those are just a few of my favorites for lights - there are a ton I'm forgetting though. | 2010-01-28 00:06:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
^^^Careful with False Idols III... Thegide told me it was malfunctioning at the beginning, and the video JHKThree made of it seemed like something was wrong... like some of the spotlighting in the descent through the atmosphere hadn't turned off like it was supposed to. I haven't been on since like August, so I don't know how anything could have gotten changed in it. Do have a video though - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbliONe1QDY I'm pretty happy with the lighting in the first 3 episodes too... especially the change in episode II if you choose to destroy the world. "Illumina Garden 2" by Shadowflare X really introduced me to the power of lighting early on "Lost Tomb of Anubis" by nattura is one of the true great ones when it comes to lighting Wish I could think of more, but Morgana's got it covered. | 2010-01-28 01:20:00 Author: Unknown User |
WOW!! Morgana, that is some list!! Now I got a lot of playing to do! Oh btw, thanks for the comments. and to NinjaMicWZ: Even though they are oldies, Illumina Gardens 2 and Lost Tomb of Anubis are some of my favorite levels. It's sad that both Nattura and Shadowflare haven't been active since, I'm pretty sure we would have seen something awesome form them | 2010-01-29 13:18:00 Author: javi haguse Posts: 744 |
