Humvees!

Archive: 47 posts

This is my model of the M242/M1025 HMMWV, or humvee for all you civilian folks. I don't normally showcase such petty vehicles, but I love this little vehicle like a son.

But unlike most humvees, it's very small, detailed, and to scale, with new control concepts as well.

-Grab the front cabin two-layer grab to toggle between driving forwards, backwards, and rest, and it will continue to go in that direction until grabbed again.
..........-A driving control concept I've never seen before, allowing shooting and driving at the same time
-Grab the back layer back cabin grab to toggle between three camera views or no camera view at all
..........-A semi-new concept, very useful to change views for appropriate targets and objectives
-Grab the front layer back cabin grab to fire the (un-aimable) M1025 bushmaster chaingun.
..........-Fires rare, secretive black paintballs
..........-Uses synchronized light, sound, shell, and bullet effects
..........-Uses foggy light flashes at the end of the barrel (Not completely capturable in screenshots)
-Rapidly grab the far-off front layer grab near the entrance to self-destruct. (Not realistic, but fun!)
..........-The rapid-grab trigger allows no accidental casualties
..........-A global lighting explosion effect occurs after detonation
..........-All of the humvee is destructible carboard accept for LED lights
..........-A speed-set alarm noise signals your proximity to imminent destruction
-Sticker features include sticker lights, text, and bumper lines to give a more three-dimensional feel.
-A LED light command verifier shows all your actions while controlling the humvee.

This shows the scale of my humvee, but I pushed the size restraints to their limits to give it just the right size.

This shows the controls, as well as a picture of a few humvee variant models I've produced.

An older, shaded version, and a newer nonshaded version in their firing sequences.

Front and back side-views of the humvee, although distorted due to camera angles.

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=12071http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=12073
Much older (shaded, lacking in detail, smaller wheels, and no led light verifier) humvee side-views without distortion.

Also note, I have older, larger, one-layer, simpler, less detailed humvees with suspension in a level called "Humvee Race! [Suspoension & Water Trials]". (See if you can find the hidden prizes ^.^)

Last but not least, this is a computer image of what this variant of the humvee bushmaster looks like in real life.

Tell me what you think!

Wow. I seen countless Humvee's and jeeps but all of those put together still doesn't top what you've made here. It looks great, has many good functions, sounds like it's easy to use and it isn't one of those huge vehicles you need a jetpack to fly into. Very nice work.2010-01-27 11:02:00

Great work there Incinerator especially with the size. Usually when trying to make vehicles that small the wheels don't work properly. I tried shrinking one of my cars down but before it got anywhere near that small the wheels went 'out of round'. Which wheels are you using? or if they're custom made what material?

It looks great as always with your vehicles too. Is it in a playable level yet so we can try it out?

very cool, but have you thought about incorporating suspension into the design??? because when i test drove it it was pretty bumpy. no offence. I love how its to scale, i can't stand huge vehicles.2010-01-27 15:23:00

Very cool!!
Though i think that a suspension is needed as horwitzer pointed out.
But i loved how you handled it and the way it blowed up!

@Horwitzer and Tamland: I don't want to add suspension because I'm too nitpicky, and it's basically impossible to make the kind realistic car suspension in lbp that would fit all my radically sticklery criteria.

@Mistervista: I agree wheels are very tricky, but it's just made of three cardboard pieces. But I had to try dozens of times to get them to work without that common and annoying combined angle effect, if you know what I mean.

@MegaRock35: *Crap, they're on to me!* lol.

And thank you for the comments people!

This is just amazing. The detail and care to make it look so much like the original, without losing the quality of it in the game, fantastic. Good work.2010-01-30 03:24:00

P.S. how did you manage to get the black popit for the paintballs? I can never seem to get it.

Great Humvee mate! Very good for its small scale. I had a hard time exiting the vehicle when in water though.2010-01-30 13:48:00

Um, you get back in? lol. But it's really hard to fall out. And getting stuck is rare because you can jump against the humvee to help move it a little, if you need to.

The one in my water level has less space and a smaller hatch. I think I should go update that level...

Just played you level, very cool! I really like the humvee, but I had to replay it because the front suspension broke on my first play through! It was on the back humvee, nothing super major, just though you should know. 2010-02-02 08:01:00

Does it slowly creep to the right even when the wheels are still, or is it a problem with the way the driving controls are set up? How many grab switches did you use, or did yoiu use a lever? I'll check out your level shortly.

yeah it slowly creeps to the left even though the wheels are still. theres 3 grab switches inside the humvee. if you grab up it shoots the gun. if you grab down it goes backward. and if you grab to the far right , it goes forward.2010-02-16 02:15:00

Does it have any kind of suspension? If the problem really bothers you, you could always add an internal dark matter emmiter or invisible rubber brakes that stick to the floor.2010-02-16 02:17:00

true but idk if its my logic that makes the truck move2010-02-16 02:28:00

The logic pack has a good lever setup to make a bidirectional vehicle like your humvee, try that. It works with winches. It's in the intermediate pack I think.2010-02-16 02:35:00

thanks and im sorry i made my humvee very similar to yours but mines is bigger but yours is better lol2010-02-16 02:38:00

lol. As long as you don't literally copy, I'm happy to teach others so they can become better creators.

It could just be a glitch in the game if your humvee slowly creeps right, it's fairly common.

Do you use a three way lever in your logic liljokerjc? Because if you do the winches sometimes "hold" onto the level, pulling It backwards.2010-02-16 05:45:00

i use a 3 way switch but not with levers. i use it with 2 blocks with pistons that push it the direction that you want to go.2010-02-16 21:42:00

I like both the Xbox and the PlayStation, they are both well constructed consoles. Halo is still a great game!
