BEWARE another PS3 scam

Archive: 17 posts

I had a weird message on the PS3 today which is an obvious scam. If it wasn't obvious from the wording in the message it is from the fact the sender can't even spell playstation correctly. This is what I got:

From: PlaystataionM ( that's exactly the way it was spelt )

Message:
We have the rights to believe your PSN account is causing our network technical difficulties. Please send us your PSN account details so we can sort this technical difficulty out as soon as possible.if you comply ?20 will be added to your PSN account. If you do not comply we will have to remove your PSN account from our network.

I checked the information on the profile of the sender and as expected there were no trophies at all and the only information on there at all was that it said 'Japanese' beside languages but take that with a pinch of salt also.

Anyway if anyone else gets this message my advice would be to delete it immediately. If anyone else has any other advice please feel free to add it.

I've never actually gotten one of these messages.

Anyone who comes across these guys should report the account to Sony's PSN report form (http://np.us.playstation.com/complaint/pc/ComplaintForm.aspx).

I've only ever got one of these scams, it was from my friends, saying something about if you forward this message to all your friends, you will receive a free map pack for Modern Warfare 2.

Why do people even bother, you don't get to actually see them forward the message etc.

this is obviously fake.

this has been noted on the psn blog many times that those chain messages/ threats are fake.

just ignore them.

This is defintley fake. Sony actually said we will never ask for you PSN details if someone pretends to be from sony asking for your psn details report them immediatly. Something like that anyway. But yeah report em..2010-01-27 23:13:00

Thank you for bringing attention to this mrv.

I had the exact same message. I haven't reported it unfortunately. I have, however, ignored it.
