Death's Treasure - Feedback Needed

Awesome level! You really paint a gorgeous picture with the moving scenery and the changing lighting... Its amazing... The only thing i would say... is the cart sequence might be a little difficult. When you eventually make the first jump and die on the second... then start all over again, it can get a bit frustrating. Also with the boss fight... I actually really enjoyed it. but it took me quite a while to find those little spots when the sythe wont kill me... haha I actually really liked the strategic aspect of it. but you can see where most people would probably quit when they get killed a million times... haha. Overall... A gorgeous level! Something i really need to work on... haha.

Awesome. I love your feedback. I agree with everything you said as well. I do realize the death fight is somewhat hard and the carts take some getting used to.

I will definately try your level when I get home later today (I am currently at work) and promise to leave you feed back as well. Did you want me to respond in here or do you have a dedicated post?

Heya.

Very impressive for a first level! The visuals were great, and the atmosphere was quite eerie. I liked the cart that brought you through the shaking building. really neat.

The platforming was great, especially while the towers were rocking back and forth. Made for a challenging and rewarding experience.

The boss was very well done, but ****, was it ever hard! maybe make the emitter times on those scythes a tad longer, because they can really kill you alot. Lining up the skull was also harder than it should be. I think you should have the skull visible in the boss screen, instead of using a speech bubble to zoom in on it. It would make it less frustrating.

Not many criticisms, although we found a couple of bugs. you can jump through the skull's missing tooth early in the level next to the wall of fire. There were also a couple of points (like the cart ride, and especially along the rocking bell towers) that could have used additional checkpoints.

Awesome level. Cant wait to see more of your work!

I will probably make a dedicated post here soon. When i do, ill leave the link here for you If not you can just leave it here... Either way is cool for me. Im trying to figure certain things out. Wow... great feedback.

Didn't realize about the skull that you could jump into that missing tooth gap!... If I use those in the future I will put something in there to prevent that.

I agree that the cart sequence could use another checkpoint as the reader up there mentioned. I had a real hard time figuring the best place for that (because of the way the carts work and the fact you can only remain in the cart. I originally had the spawn point on the cart itself (like the raft) but the weight added from the checkpoint ruined it and I would have had to redo all of the carts.

I know Death is hard. The thing is I figured that if you watch him it is very predictable and consistant...so I figured it would be a challenge for old school platform fans. I know even a little frustrating at first... in my video walkthrough, I show the exact points that he cant harm you and in the level...whereever there is a dip in the floor he can't hit you... then again I could lower the spawn times of the emitter.

As far as lining up the skull... that was due to the decision of some poor planning on my part... there was no safe place to build that wheel on screen (considering how death and the scythes work) that pretty much left me with the last choice of a cutscene camera ....kinda sucks I know but most LPB folks are used to these right?

I have to say, this level was amazing..there was extremely good scenery, oringinal obstacles, very good use of water. The boss fight was just jaw dropping, but kinda hard. The only real problem was that some parts were kinda hard to see but it was still playable so it's not a real problem. I can't beilieve this was your first level though! My first level (AdventureMan) was terrible!


Anyway, very good job, really loved the boss fight, 5 out of 5 plus a heart.

Hey there!

So I tried Ancient Aztec Adventure and i really like the platform elements. I like the environment and the the characters comments were funny... lol

I think its hard... some of the platforming at the beginning is actually difficult... but I liked it. It's alot of fun, but hard

The bugs I noticed are the following:

If you suck and forget to hold onto the key as you push it into the rocket it seems like you are screwed... make the key re-rez via an emiter like you do the rocket.

One of the character enemies is glued to the wall so when you kill it it stays rezzed (right before the rocket)

various cleanup ( hide things that the player doesnt need to see liek the switches.... sensors etc...but that may just be your choice.)

All in all a great first level
