Game not saving

Archive: 14 posts

About a week ago I came back to a level I had been working on to discover that everything I had the previous session hadn't saved. Was alright for the rest of the week but then yesterday it did it again, and it's been doing every time I go on.

I starts off alright and saves perfectly, but then after a while when I go to save my level the sackboy icon in the bottom left isn't there. If I return to my pod and go to back up my profile, the sackboy picture is the default sackboy instead of the one I'm using. Basically, the game just randomly stops saving, and the only way for me to keep everything is to back it up online.

Anyone else had anything like this? Any ideas what it could be?

I've had this quite a few times, but it was prior to the OC version. It's like your profile isn't really saving or something before exiting LBP. You might check to see how many objects you stacked up and levels on your moon, it might be with the new profile space there is something wacky going on over a certain limit. ...or maybe we need to wait longer in the pod since the file is so much larger now? I know level saves happen instantly, but I wonder if the whole profile finally is saved to the default one, once you are in the pod.

Are you doing profile backups as well?

Just tossing out some things to see if we can come up with a trend as well as a solution.

I've had something similiar, NuclearFish.

At certain points, a level I was working on was saving fine, until it seemed to revert to a previous save. It happened twice, but I've not had it since and even though I've saved quite a bit since, it's difficult to replicate or to find out why.

I think you're doing the right thing by backing up, though. i know it's a pain keep copying it up and down from the server, but better than losing a whole load of work (which I did the first time).

EDIT: lol, jww, we posted at the same time! Yes, you maybe right, it could be profile related, too!

I also used to have it before the update, but it seemed to be profile size related for me - if I deleted some levels and community objects it then would work fine. Maybe in some form the issue still exists. For an experiment, try backing up a few of your levels and then deleting them from your moon, and see if the issue persists.2010-01-25 18:42:00

It happened to me a lot too. But that was befor the OC update...
A small trick I used to do is change my costume before disconecting the game. That saves your profile, so it saves your new progress.

Ive had similar trouble when quitting the game from create mode, even after saving. I suggest returning to the pod at least every hour you create, it does seem a more reliable way (save states seem to be backed up along with the profile). It all seems like guess work though. Try blowing kisses at your ps3.2010-01-28 01:51:00

I posted this in another thread...

Okay well, as this has happened to me about 3-5 times I know a lot of different ways to get it back to normal or to get through it.

The easiest was is to just let it run its course. It may last for a few days or a few weeks this is the easiest way without a chance of loosing any of your current data. All you do to save your data at the end of your playing time is...
1) If you were playing levels and you completed it of got a lot of the prizes, back-up your profile before you quit LBP. While the glitch is active, I would back it up into a new save slot everyday. If you were creating, you can back-up the level and then proceed to back-up your profile.
2) You can try to enter a level when you are done playing and you have to keep doing that until it forces a save, you can tell weather it saved because a sackboy will be running between the arrows at the bottom of the screen.
3) Get a friend to join in your pod. *May not always work*

The second way to get it to stop is to import a back-up that was saved prior to the glitch. You will have to put anything you made that's important to you that was made after the back-up you choose to use in prize bubbles and publish the level or back it up.

The last thing which I do not recommend is to delete your profile data and start out new. You may have to do this if you have no back-up and the glitch does not go away within a month.

hmm. perhaps backing up your profile everytime isnt such a bad idea. it doesnt take very long, and its like the bullet proof van of gamesaves. plus, if your game ever corrupts, you have a solid backup. and i think ive figured out what caused the problem in the first place... A WITCH!!! get a rope.2010-01-28 05:39:00

I posted this in another thread...

The other day I re-imported an old save before it started happining, and it's been fine so far. I importted the levels I was working on so all seems good. If this happens to anyone else, make sure you make regular back-ups to be able to go back to!

I'll let you all know if it starts happening again.

It's started doing it again.

I ned to test this a bit more, but it only seems to happen within the first couple of minutes of editing particular levels. It did it the other day with one level, but whilst creating the example and template levels for the contraption challenge it saved perfeclty fine. This morning things were fine whilst I was playing some levels, but then I went into crate mode on one level I've been working on and after about a minute the game stopped saving.

I'll test all my saved levels later on to see if it definatwly only is certain ones.

Oh...
Sound like you will have to wait it out this time. If importing only was a temporary fix then you might want to try letting a friend join you because it forces it to save. (In the pod). If not just wait it out, shouldn't last for more than 2 weeks to a month. Just publish locked to save your level then copy it to your moon the next time you play. As for costumes and objects created... that's a different solution.

BTW... You were a regular on the Burnout Paradise forums weren't you. 8D

Edit, in reply to the OP: Yes this has happened to me several times but has always been resolved. You know how you try to join someone else and it says "failed to load level state from xxx" and "failed to load all player profiles". Basically it is partially failing to load your profile and it can't save because it can't find your level state. I know this because once when I had this error, it actually got so bad it wouldn't do either.

This has been happening to me lately, but I can't seem to find any patterns for when it does or does not save my game. I don't think I saved a level I worked on all last week, the only way I could 'save' was by publishing it locked.2010-02-13 15:43:00

Man, that must be very annoying.

I guess the only up-side to it, is that you'll recreate what you've lost twice as better than previously.

But still, I bet you wern't happy at all.
