Pistons -- A way to stop them from moving after they fully extend?

Archive: 7 posts

Heya guys. I'm new to this forum, and creating LBP content in general.

I have a question regarding pistons:

I want to make an elevator, a simple hollowed out box on a piston with a 3 way switch in it. When I pull the switch, the elevator goes up. When it gets all the way up, I want it so that it cannot go back down. So pulling in the other direction on the switch does nothing, and it also does not continue to go up or down once i've reached the point i'd like.

I hope my question is clear enough. Thanks.

Alright, so place a block of Dark Matter and a block of the Dissolve Material in your level. Put the Dissolve on top of the Dark Matter. Next, put a Magnetic Key on the Dissolve. Then, put a Magnetic Key Switch on the Dark Matter. (Make sure it's the same color as the key). Set the switch to "Direction". After that, go down to where it says "Inverted?" and mark it as "yes". Hook up the Magnetic Key Switch to the piston. Then, hook up the switch that you want to control the elevator to the Dissolve Material.

Viola! A simple permanent switch.

P.S. If the piston starts in the wrong direction, change the "Inverted?" option from "yes" to "no".

There are many ways you could do this but the one above is the simplest, but if you want a 3 way switch you will have to do something different and there are a few ways. Don't know exactly how to in my head, sorry. 8( Compher probably knows though.2010-01-24 22:19:00

I'd personally use winches to pull up the elevator and then have tabs deploy out which the elevator will rest on after going up.2010-01-25 09:52:00

A consideration when you build elevators that only go one way, once: be careful that the player or players are all on board and can't get back down by accident or by dying. Otherwise they get stuck with no chance of finishing the level, which makes some unhappy gadders.2010-01-25 13:25:00
