material choices

Archive: 7 posts

Hi !

I was wondering what kind of materials I should use for a part above, part underwater research facility .

I was thinking metal gear solid pack greenish material combined with some metal and polystyrene for objects to start off with.

Any more suggestions on how I should do this?

Furthermore, any ideas on the visual concept of how this should look above water and below?

thanks in advance

Don't just consider the obvious materials, sometimes a material you wouldn't normally use for something like this might look great. Stickers can be very handy here to give it a unique look.2010-01-24 10:41:00

Maybe combine a rock material with a metal and use stickers. One thing I like to do is make something out of basic wood and then use the material changer to experiment with different combinations.2010-01-24 17:21:00

yeah, just use a basic material like cardboard then just experiment with different materials.2010-01-24 17:51:00

Another thing that relates kind of too is how many you use- using lots of different materials fills up the thermometer quicker than you think...
Just try placing simple blocks of every different material in the game to see what I mean!

Depending on if this is the only thing in the level I would say metals or rocks, but you never know. Like in a level Gray and I are making, we used the fish scales sponge material in the most unusual place.2010-01-24 22:23:00
