Archive: 17 posts

Hi guys! I was just wondering if MM ever reads our threads. especially the suggestions threads. We have really good ideas for LBP but it wont matter if they dont read it and try to make it.......2010-01-24 05:45:00

Just a couple. They're have been a couple of times Spaff came over and talked with us. Like when the wave of popular moderated levels occuried like with mdaj and SBG for example.2010-01-24 05:51:00

Yeah, they do read but it doesn't mean they want or can fix certain stuff we complain about. Also, they aren't very communicative so it's hard to tell anyways if they read stuff regularly or just happen to drop by every 2-3 weeks.2010-01-24 06:27:00

They do notice our stuff... but not as often as they use to. The whole Logic Pack thing was a join-project between LBPC and Mm, so there's a fine example that they do come over from time to time. But, as I've said, not as much as they use to...2010-01-24 06:38:00

I do think they lurk around quite a bit, they just don't contribute unless the situation desperately calls for it.
They have to be careful about what they say either way.

By law they are not allowed to listen to our suggestions unless many people have the same idea, hence the wish list thread over at LBW. But they don't read and check in as much as they used to.2010-01-25 12:56:00

There's no such law. Also, alot of devs and publishers out there listen to customers in order to make their product. Some have entire studios dedicated into studying what people want.2010-01-25 15:01:00

They do in fact listen, I know this first hand, and there's no such law. The reason they don't announce things they are working on is because a lot of it might not work, and telling people what is coming, when it won't work will only build false promises, and ultimately let people down.

The community is the reason this game has lasted so long, and not listening to the people that have kept it going would be stupid. Think about it, if theirs no one to buy DLC then there's no money coming in.

That's not entirely true. The logic Pack was ConfusedCartman's brainchild from the very start. MM only knew about it because CC approached them himself and they didn't commit to any kind of endorsement until they had seen a nearly finished product first hand. I don't think them endorsing that project gives us any indication of how much they stop by here to read up on suggestions.

As Grant and Zwollie says though, they probably do read through stuff, but they have to be guarded and aren't going to directly respond to peoples' suggestions as many would take that as an official (or semi-official) confirmation that it's going to happen. Which it wouldn't be. They know that the community makes this game and they need to feed off feedback from us in order to keep the game alive. Dropping into the forums is free market research after all

Oh yeah, and "listening to customers" is certainly not illegal, lol.

Most likely he's referring to publishers being careful not to listen to outsiders when developing a product. For instance, if a person gives them an idea, and they use it, and the person comes back and wants compensation it could become a legal issue. So, in other words, they are guarded with "unsolicited" ideas. Not really a law, though. It's more a possible copyright infringement.

However, when you're talking about an existing product that is constantly in use, and users are offering suggestions, it doesn't really fall under the same category.

If there's ONE area I would like them to be more communicative it's about the bug.
We don't even know if they are aware of issues that plague the game. It's like 2 months soon that our profiles are broken with hearted pages and creator pages not loading properly + the hearting system is half useless now with the bug that makes all levels appear as hearted by you.

I mean, we aren't making enough noise? Many of us wrote to them, asked them in PM, contacted their community people ,etc. They can't even give us a "Yes we are aware of the issue" ?? That's where it baffles me. This is not national secret and they don't have to commit on the fix, they only need to say "yes we are aware of the issue" and suddendly we would all sleep quiet and continue to love the game.

But no, this little effortless and simple thing isn't done.

haha, so true, when i saw that heart bug was there, i was all like "What, i hearted every level!?", but seriously, mm does need to have a better grasp about what the community want to say about the game, they need to have a team which actually responds to what we as a community want to say. just like these replies are saying, mm needs to show some better communication and get going with how this game works regarding community involvement

Okay sorry, I worded that horribly.
Thats what I really meant not so much a law but a case where Mm can get sued.

No. Employees of MM are instructed to not read, ever. Even when they play their own levels, they run through closing dialogue boxes as fast as they can and slapping each other off the edges of platforms, then not finishing the level and rating it 1 star.2010-01-26 16:03:00
