2way switch + bolt

Archive: 12 posts

I have a question about the 2way and 3way switches.
I tried to search the forum and also google it, but I didn't found anything.

I'm pretty sure I've seen many times, in some MM story levels and even in community levels,
those switches connected with the regular bolt, to make them more harder to pull, less loose....
I hope you understand what I mean...

I try to do that in create mode, connect the bolt directly to the switch, or connect it with a thin layer shape in between,
but it just didn't work...! I'm surely missing something somewhere...

So I wanted to know, first if it's possible? (I'm 99% sure of that)
And how to make that work??

Thanks in advance!

I rarely work with those types of switches and I haven't worked with one in a while, but I think you have to switch it to "Time"

That's the only thing I can think of.

There's a lever switch with a bolt on it withing a story mode object. I think it's the mechanical gate from the wilderness theme.2010-01-24 00:35:00

Did you try shrinking them, that might make it easier...

My guess is that its a special Mm thing that regular users can't do, I would just use a low strength winch or maybe string or elastic. Spring?

Thanks Endless_echo, maybe I didn't explain this right... I mean to put a bolt directly on the lever switch so that the switch itself is harder to pull..

Thanks Warlord_evil, yes that's what I'm talking about.
Wait, I must try something...

Ok I've just check in game. I didn't find the mechanical gate, but there's also another MM obstacle object ("elevator steps") from the Temples I think, that uses that kind of switch with a bolt on it.

So I selected it in create mode, turned everything into cardboard,
then destroy it with bombs, in order to isolate the switch... (I heard about this method somewhere..)
I can now capture it and use it like a regular switch.
The switch and the bolt are tweakable as normal, separetly, which is cool, and it seems to work fine.

And actually, I don't think there's a way to make it ourselves in create mode,(I tried everything, it didn't work..)
as in this MM switch, the bolt is fully incorporated in it :

Well I guess I have my answer! I should have thought of that before making the thread
Thanks warlordevil for the hint

Hope it will interest or help people who didn't know or think about that like me...

If you use elastic on the base and the handle, could you be able to strenghthen it and make it not visible?

Yes, it's another way to do it, but it would not work with what I want to do.
The elastic would make the handle come back to the center or the opposite side when released...

I want to use the 2 side normally, but just less loose, so I think the MM switch with a hard bolt is the best for that!

Thanks for discovering this! I'm gonna try and play around with it and see if it works exactly how I want it to. (If it does I could really use it)2010-01-27 20:32:00

Great find! You should wrap this up as a shareable object and publish it. The more tools available to authors the better!

@ Tanrockstan34
I've been working with the 3 way switch that waD_Delma found in the "mechanical magic bridge" and it works as expected! Only thing is, its actually a sprung bolt instead of a spring, but that works for me, since it helps snap the switch back into neutral fast.

I havent tried the 2 way switch with just the standard bolt though :
