LBP Competition League

Archive: 11 posts

Survivor has been fun, but relying on everyone being able to stay active for every event has proven to be something of a problem...

I'm working on a new idea. Very similar in execution to Survivor. Something of a competitive LBP league.

There will be a new level or challenge or build contest every few days. Anyone who wants to play can play any of them so long as they do it in the time limit. The top 5 or 10 players or builders on each challenge/level/build will get points. After about a month, the player with the most points wins.

This way, there's no penalty to everyone else if a player doesn't play. There's no real drag on the game if people don't show for each round. And new people can come in after the official start.

I don't think this will be something that needs me or the staff to create all of the levels. We can pick and choose from the best of LBP and throw in some of our own as well.

I'd probably offer up the same cheap PSN game prize as I've done for Survivor and XP if the XP system ever gets back on it's feet. I'd probably think up something for 2nd and 3rd as well.

Well, let me know everyone. Does this sound like a good idea? Sound like something you all would be interested in joining?

:O

Imma tell you... My dream has been for a contest where you get "achievements" for doing various things, and it ranks you based on your point value.

If you add in some more stuff, like maybe challenging someone else on your own and betting points into a single pot, winner takes the pot...

Well, let's just say that something like this has been my secret want, and I DEMAND you do this

... Yeah, I'm interested definitively . I wouldn't mind coming up with some ideas, just as long as I can still participate .

Wait... IF you could get CC in on this, and then have people register their contests into this and if they win, they get points...

... Let's just say that something like this hs been my dream, and even if my fantasies don't come true... IT FRICKING RAWKS

... in case you haven't noticed, I'm in

I'm not sure what it is, but you seem to be the highest profile person I can consistently get in on things... It'd be neat to have official support from the site, but somehow I don't think we'll get it.

All good ideas with the challenging people, achievements, and extra stuff. I'm still not 100% that I want to do this, and if I do end up doing it, I WILL need other people to help me keep track of things...

You better want to do this... You have no idea how much I want this D:

Anyway, we can start planning some stuff, and then see if CC would be interested in having a contest team later on.

First, we'd need to iron stuff out first I guess.

... So, um... great, I need someone else to lay the groundwork XD ;-;

I'm at work right now... let me get home, and then I'll get some stuff in order... As it is, I've still got to upload the videos for the last two challenges and fix the site to reflect everything new that's happened...

Until then... anyone have any more ideas?

Well, we could make a thread for this in Site Feedback soon... or I could... eh, anyway. It'd probably take a team of people to consistently update a list with all these points... I could probably do that, I know I have the time and what not ;-;

Ok, so people start off on the list with no points. When they win points, they go on the list with their point values.

People can challenge people and choose a challenge. They'd wage a bet of points, the winner gets all.

Various contests chosen by the Team would have points as prizes. Whoever gets the points would gain the prize.

Hm... Maybe I could just make a thread in Site Feedback... my mind is swelling with possibilities ;o. Obviously I'd give you original credit, but, uh... yeah.

I think our ideas are starting to diverge a little... Here's what I'm thinking...

Every 2-3 days a new challenge is posted. Might be a race to complete a level. Might be everyone trying to get a high score in a level, might be building a better shark. Each of these will have a playable window of about a week. There will be overlap with the different challenges. Everyone needs to either post their results in the thread or PM us with their results. We will need some manner of proof with all of their results. While having these people in our pods is the easiest way to tell what's going on, I don't have the energy to do that again after Survivor - the whole waiting for people to be on thing. We'd be able to check scoreboards or screen shots I'm hoping...

Depending on the number of people who join up, 1st will get 10 pts, 2nd 8, 3rd 6, 4th 4, 5th 3, 6th 2, 7th -10th 1. Or something like that. On the main thread or the site, we can keep track of the overall points leader, the weekly points leader, and so on.

I like the idea of being able to challenge other players, but that needs to be controlled. If we make it too easy to do it, an awesome player could theoretically abuse the system. Also, if we're keeping with the whole us not having to watch everyone thing, I've got a feeling that everyone won't necessarily be able to coordinate their own face offs or be entirely honest about the results. I think that for the PvP system to work, it either needs to come as an occasional challenge, or be a special right that players can earn and use once until they earn the right again.

Achievements... awesome idea. We can either have them each add a certain number of points to the end of season total score, or count towards some secondary prize. Idea - if we do this for more than 1 season, old achievements could carry over, but not add to the new season's total whatever.

Website - Think we should get a website like the Survivor one, or should we keep it to a thread or group?

Using other contests as a part of ours - A fun idea... though we'd be at the mercy of whoever is running those in terms of them ending on time, or actually ending at all... Also, might be hard to quantify our players' performance if none of them rank in the top 3 of a different contest. Should a win in these be more of an achievement since we can't hand out scores to anyone who doesn't place?

Hmm, I don't even know why I am saying this but...
You should try to get a crown for the winner, *sigh* like it would ever happen....
Maybe you could get one, but I tried to get one and all the community managers ignore me now.

I don't think that the "average" person around here can get a crown into one of their contests. The Survivor competition that I'm running seemed like it would have been epic enough to get some sort of official backing, but I never really got any communications from the powers that be... And this competition is sort of a toned down survivor. It would be awesome, but totally unlikely...2010-01-24 20:25:00

Oh trust me, you could get one easily. Some person at LBW had 0 posts and got a crown for a contest, I had never even heard of him before.
