Music From My Juicer

Archive: 6 posts

Hey everyone. You probably have no idea who I am (this is only my second post, anyway) but since this creative board was here, I though I'd let you hear some of the electronic music I make. I've been making music since I was 14 for about four years now and I self taught myself almost everything I know, but right now I'm taking some Berklee School of Music online classes to get more serious and possibly make music for a living.

The link is in my signature below. Keep in mind this isn't all I've done in that past 4 years, it's just all I'm willing to show the public at the moment. Anyways, enjoy!

****, I need to start using reason. One of my friends uses reason and all of his dubstep sounds infinitly better mixed than anything I can produce on cubase 5, fruity loops or sonar.

Well, after today, i'll have a 4 day weekend so maybe i'll dive into it then

Good stuff bro, to say the least.

Thanks! Yeah, Reason is great; it has everything you need to make professional music all in one package.2010-01-22 01:27:00

Hey, listened through your tracks, they're definitely quite well produced. Everythings filled out nicely, and the music doesn't let up. I think some of your drums could use a bit more tweaking, a bit more toying around with effects and such. They're mostly sounding very standard techno, but you could just throw some resonators or filters over them and get them to sound completely different without loosing the rhythms.

Got some nice funky motifs in there, so keep it up, and keep reaching in new directions. Trying to make something that doesn't sound like everything else is a huge challenge these days

I see you listen to Benn Jordan, pretty awesome stuff. Have you ever listened to The Black Dog (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkpQQ9czJWc), their latest stuff is pretty dark techno, but not mainstream at all. Its got a lot of other influences hidden in there too, I don't normally listen to techno, but I can seriously dig their stuff. Your latest track just reminded me of them.

I "followed" you on soundcloud, so you can check out my tracks if you want under Billov They're weird and terribly mastered... but I'm just throwing ideas around so far.

Thanks for your critique and the Soundcloud follow. I know what you're saying about the drums; I have always felt that way too. I can never get the drums to sound exactly how I want them. I have been longing to do drum pattens similar to the crazy styles of The Flashbulb and Aphex twin, but I can't figure out their techniques and how the have so much variation and control over everything. I'll find my own way eventually.2010-01-26 21:23:00

Yeh I'd love to lay down some really intricate drum lines like Aphex. Where the drum line almost becomes the melody, or at least the main focus. I think the only way, and probably best way, is to just to meticulously program in all your drums. If you have your main drum loop, then you can easily move things around a bit, or use some effects like tape-stop or beat-repeat or reverse to create a bit of variation. Once you have a bunch of variations, then you can start mapping out your entire song... and thats the real tricky part.

I'm using Ableton Live at the moment. Very slick piece of software, handy for creating little ideas and snippets and sketching them down fast. But still I find it really hard to produce a full track.
With Ableton its got a sort of "sample/pattern mode", where you can trigger off all your different instruments and their different patterns/melodies. Basically a sequencer.
Its handy for working out how your song will sound before you actually start to record it.
Then you can switch to song mode, and start mapping out parts of the song, but in this mode you can still chop it up again or add more effects etc. Very versatile really, worth checking out if you haven't already.
