That's it, I give up!

Archive: 14 posts

This is the 4th time this has happened now

This time really is the last straw though.

I have been working on a level for about 10-12 hours over the last 3 days, really working intricately on details and a storyline, thermo not even 25% full.... I go to test and BLAM my psp crashes....AGAIN... no biggie, I'll just restart and re-do what wasn't saved (shaping an object to a bell sticker). I go to load the level and guess what.... my psp crashes trying to load the level. I try 4 more times to no prevail.

I've had it, this is literally the 4th or 5th time now I've worked on a level and the game has simply had a seizure on me and wiped itself. I'm much happier working on the bug free ps3 version, and I don't really expect to pick this game back up until I hear that all these annoying bugs are gone and I can finally make a half decent level without me experiencing the desire to throw my PSP at the cat every 5 or so minutes. This whole idea of "Play, Create, Share" has litereally turned to "Play, Create, Delete", and it's throwing me past the limits of my nerd rage x)

Expect me back when I hear this game has turned reliable

Bye for now, Pete

I'm sorry to hear that. If you have the ability to backup your save file though I would suggest making a backup right now. You can probably salvage your level from it to work on at a later date.

But yeah, the PSP version can be pretty frustrating, no doubt about that. But at the same time if you just work around all the issues and come to expect them (and prepare, such as making backups and copies of your levels as well as saving often) then when the game messes up or crashes you can at least be prepared for it and not have to redo much.

And of course there's always enjoying levels made by other people. But yes, go back and play the PS3 version for a while and probably just check the PSP section every now and then to see if there's any word on upcoming updates.

Yep, sometimes a level will become corrupted and won't let you load it or even worse your entire save file can become corrupted, meaning you can't play any levels at all.

That's why it's very important to make historical backups of your save file every so often, so if something like that happens you have a working save file that you can load up.

I'm in the same boat, I was working on a "port" of my PS3 Starwars level and by the time I just had the basic frame of the Echo Base done, my AT-AT was doing somersaults, so frustrating, I'll also be waiting til they work out the bugs.2010-01-21 01:28:00

Sorry to hear your frustrations with the game. I agree that it is far too unstable to be used in the same way as the PS3 create mode (i.e., no backing up, working on a single level, etc.) PSP create mode isn't for everybody, so I can't blame you for getting fed up with it.

With that said, after a couple of beers (if you're old enough) and a good night's sleep you really should reconsider quitting LBP PSP outright. It's a shame to lose creative minds just because of a few quirks. There are workarounds and other ways to make sure you don't lose your work. It's actually a good common sense method to follow on anything you do related to software (e.g., typing up a Word document) so I consider LBP PSP to be good practice.

If you're sold on throwing in the towel for a while, you are justified in doing so. However, if those creative ideas are still bouncing around in your head trying to find a way out, then we can help. First, check out the corrupt profile thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=19461-The-corrupt-profile-thread-(Back-up-your-data-NOW!)) and give that a good once-over. Next, as you're creating make sure to make a copy of your level every 30 minutes. Set a kitchen timer if you need to. I like to keep 3 backups going at once, always increasing the number of the backup. So I'll backup "Creation" as "Creation 1", then 2, then 3. When it comes time for number 4, I overwrite my first file with "Creation 4" and so on. Finally, save often! If you follow these steps, you are guaranteed to never lose more than 30 minutes of your work, and even that doesn't happen often.

In any case, you have my sympathies and my hope that you'll pick up your PSP again soon.

I know this feeling very well. Haven't given up just yet but I'm not in a rush to work on mine after similar issues.2010-01-21 06:20:00

I almost quited after the nightmare that was creating my second level (The Harp of Seasons), with mechanisms constantly breaking, thus leading me to cut parts of the level to finish it as soon as I could.

I almost quited after the nightmare that was polishing my third level (The Garden of Golden Apples) and finally losing the data just like you when I was modifying some bits to re-upload the level and make it more player-friendly.

And I would like to have quited now that I'm having a nightmare with my fourth level (The .... of ..., sorry haven't got the title yet hehe). I can't unpause the Editor or parts of the level break after a few seconds. I can only test things on Play mode, and unpausing by mistake means spending hours rebuilding what got broken. And I live with constant fear of losing that, even if I backup often.

So I can understand how you're feeling. However, I think you shouldn't give up. Follow Taffey's advices, backup often, don't unpause if it isn't necessary, don't rewind, don't leave the PSP on sleep mode if you're inside Editor mode (always save & quit before that)...

When you get used to it, the Editor isn't as bad as we say, and there are many awesome levels showcasing what you can do with the proper time and dedication.

Great. Just remember: if you backup, create while in pause mode, don't rewind, corner-edit everything and never leave the PSP in sleep mode while you're in the Editor, you should be fine!2010-01-21 17:32:00

I can't actually confirm that, but from working on my 2nd and 3rd levels, I noticed that bugs started appearing after I woke up my PSP from sleep mode...

With my 4th level, I didn't put the PSP sleep mode at all and bugs haven't appeared until I was 90% done with my level (and what a nightmare it is to fix a whole level when everything was working fine before!).
