So yesterday. (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=21549-LBP-in-3D) | 2010-01-20 11:38:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
I still think 3D is the most overrated new tech of 2010. Most people have yet to upgrade their CRTs to HDTVs. I just dropped thousands on my TV two years ago, it's going to be a long long time before I even think of upgrading it for a headache-inducing 3D chip. Not to mention you still need to shell out hundreds for the required glasses. Maybe it's just me, but having to wear headgear just to watch TV seems pretty stupid. Not to mention, long periods of 3D watching are bound to induce eye strain and headaches. When TVs get to the point of projecting true 3D virtual images, then I might be inclined to take a swing. Until then, fat hobbit can keep nasssty chips. | 2010-01-20 14:31:00 Author: Thegide Posts: 1465 |
Stereoscopic imagery is one new big gimmick. And the PS3 will be ready to embrace this BS. That's all there is to know really. It's super cool for 10 mins and after that you realise that being immersed in a game or movie negates the 3D effect as you already feel "in the game" by the immersion. The most important use for this gimmick will be to effectively succeed in charging more in Theaters for movies that didn't really cost more to make + trying to make people upgrade their living room again, something electronics giant would dream to effectively do every couple of years. | 2010-01-20 18:40:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |

Could be interesting.. I probably won't get a 3D TV though since my one works fine already. The only reason I would consider getting one is if my current tv broke | 2010-01-20 21:23:00 Author: Plasmavore Posts: 1913 |
Sounds cool. | 2010-01-21 07:30:00 Author: Ainsl3y_xo Posts: 478 |

I still think 3D is the most overrated new tech of 2010. Most people have yet to upgrade their CRTs to HDTVs HD is so 1996, thats more than 10 years old. The "new" 3d technology is allready 5+ years old, most dutch casino's had them hanging when they just got released. the image was ugly as hell though and has been improved a lot. But.. since we are consumers.. we will probably buy them when the prices are still high as rockets on steroids instead of waiting untill the price plummits because nobody wants to buy such expensive stuff. | 2010-01-21 12:24:00 Author: Luos_83 Posts: 2136 |
Interesting article about all this. (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/playstation-3d-hands-on?page=1) The LBP-part of above mentioned article "This shows that across all sorts of genres, 3D can work," says Benson. "Apart from the fact that you get this nice image with a lovely bit of depth, the game itself has a depth mechanic... If you've played LittleBigPlanet and you're anything like me, you've probably fallen off a cliff every now and again thinking, 'well I thought I was on the bridge there'. "Obviously the depth perception lets you understand far better which layer you're actually on. So you can judge that far better, plus some of the other benefits... when you're dressing the avatar it's more interesting to see it in 3D." Benson also puts forth another interesting use for the technology - an enhanced view of the content-creation interface. "Building something with stereoscopic vision... you're putting the thing together in front of you," he says enthusiastically. "Traditionally you have to rely a lot more on grids and revolving cameras to help people understand where they've actually put something. "In the same way, when we're making 3D models for games, making a building or something... our artists need to spin it around, manipulate it on-screen to know how to build it properly. When you've got stereoscopic vision, that becomes far easier - you just see it before you. You can see how big something is relative to something else. It's not a little thing really close, or a big thing far away. I can understand where it is spatially because I can perceive that with stereoscopic vision. It helps the creation process. | 2010-01-23 08:58:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
sounds like it could actually work in lbp tho. sorry if i sound like a dumb sheep person, but i would like this. metal gear acid was great in 3d. | 2010-01-23 09:06:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |
you just see it before you. You can see how big something is relative to something else. It's not a little thing really close, or a big thing far away. I can understand where it is spatially because I can perceive that with stereoscopic vision. It helps the creation process. I dont agree at all that it will help the creation progress. As an Enviroment artist I just would like to say that something like that doesnt affect the creation progress, creativity, fun, experience and patience do. not some weird new 3d view. just set your editor into front view and you have excelent sense of scale. (and every other game/3d software always comes with a measure system) this imho is just some marketing blablabal. | 2010-01-23 11:35:00 Author: Luos_83 Posts: 2136 |
maybe i'd be intrested if it allows you to actually create in 3D, like the layer glitch, but proper, and sackboy could move through as many or as few as you choose | 2010-01-23 14:10:00 Author: Matimoo Posts: 1027 |
nope. its just going to put LBP into avitar style 3d | 2010-01-24 20:38:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |
thats a little over the top lol. it wont be avatar style 3d, its more.. spongebob 3d at sixflags quality than avatar quality. | 2010-01-25 12:28:00 Author: Luos_83 Posts: 2136 |
well, i was not comparing it to the QUALITY. just making sure people know its not 3d layers glitch made mainstream | 2010-01-25 13:46:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |
That would be cool, but would probably get confusing. But still its a good idea. | 2010-01-25 16:47:00 Author: Welder666 Posts: 6 |
More depth wouldn't make it more confusing. | 2010-01-25 17:03:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
well talking about more depth.. why does lbp only have 3 layers and is a 4 player game. I wouldve made it 4 thick layers in the first place | 2010-01-25 17:06:00 Author: Luos_83 Posts: 2136 |
