Played VS Completed

Anyone but me find your Played and Completed stats shocking?

The Nostalgia of the Infinite: played 10.333 Completed 2.776
Up & Away in Sky Town: played 45.971 Completed 20.785

When i play a level I all way completed as long as nothing go wrong in the level, but looking at the stas most of the time more then 50% give up?

Mine are less than 50% jump button, most are around 10% completion, count yourself lucky 2010-01-18 20:45:00

Remember, also, that some people quit when they get to the scoreboard. If they don't care about scores, why go through the whole "end of level" rigmarole? I do it sometimes, too.2010-01-18 20:47:00

Yea, I was pretty shocked when I saw mine. My levels aren't even remotely hard and my stats are right around 50%. I think comphermc's right. People quit out at the boards plus the usual "this is too much work" quitters.2010-01-18 20:51:00

I'm one of those people who quit once they reach or a almost on the scoreboard as the score is meaningless to me because I don't see how my friends fared (I don't care how many points Z0mb!3K1LLEr got) and it takes too long. So sorry for ruining a bit of moderately interesting, but most meaningless statistics for you. 2010-01-18 21:00:00

yea, i always complete if the level isnt glitchy, frustrating, or H4H-ey, and yet, my levels are not being completed. 1 out of every 3 completed any of the Mythicos levels...2010-01-18 21:03:00

Besides those that may quit early or just in sight of the scoreboard, one has to wonder given the stellar online services running such things as recently played, hearts etc as well as last years ratings bug, how do we know if that is even remotely correct anyway? 2010-01-18 21:04:00

depends, if it's a level that someone put a lot of work into and has lot's of fun things at the end like achievments and "did you find all the..." then i wanna see it till the very last second but if it's a survival challenge or just a level someone didn't put too much thought into and i come to a plain cardboard scoreboard with hearts floating around it then im not gunna touch it, i dont wanna waste a second more of my time just so that they can pile community objects on me a scream "OMGEEZ H4H AND IL HART U AN AL UR LEVLS!!" I usually avoid those levels anyway. But if you spent your time and put all you got into it then you deserve those last 5 seconds and the satisfaction of a completion.2010-01-18 21:10:00

that's crazy, I always complete the levels, I don't really care about the score or anything, but I think weird to end a level without the finale of the score board....2010-01-18 21:11:00

Yeah Jww makes a good point - these stats can't possibley be right! When was the last time Mm implemented a feature that was 100% not buggy?2010-01-18 21:11:00

I did't know people did that, I dont care about scores that why I dont really like adding bubbles. unless it add a little more gameplay

Also, if people are trying to get a high score they may just start over if they mess up.... I'm guilty of this sometimes.

There are several thousand that didn't finish Tiger Woods..... and you can't even die in that level.

But, I would say Nastalgia of the Infinite is a level that requires quite a bit more brains than the average level, so that is a REALLY good finish percentage for that level.

^^; well one guy comment was that it taked him 45 mins too complete, god know what he was doing

but still less then 50% completed the levels feel like I wasted my time

This isn't very surprising. There have been a lot of levels that I start to play and then I get an invite halfway through, or I screw up during a high score run and I immediately start over (Compher's All Mine! is a victim of this!). Otherwise, I always play a level to completion the first time through, but on replays, sometimes I'll play to a certain point and then leave and other times I will stay and play the whole thing.2010-01-19 00:11:00

Phew, so I wasn't alone in that, haha..!

Back on topic, neither it is surprising for me. I do normally join other players and leave the level, restart if I started like REALLY bad, leave if I have other business to attend... Not to mention if a level requires too much thinking, since I'm the action seeker type of player. Though this is a habit I'm gradually dropping. And broken sections. If a level breaks on me I'll restart most of the time (2nd chance, y'know) but if it does so at it's last stages, I'll probably just leave.

Besides, I also return to the pod when on the scoreboard. However, my question here is: if you return to the pod AFTER stepping onto the scoreboard thus triggering the player ratings but BEFORE being asked iy you wish to return to the pod or replay, does it count as a completed or incompleted playtrough?

The play completion stat isn't surprising at all and on the easiest levels, the most straightforward ones you'll get around half.
I mean people are very short fused and especially the LBP crowd. There also is the "start again" phenomenon and this is amplified in this game here since it's so easy and seemless to restart a level. It's like the infinite lives gates didn't help people get less trigger happy...

If these stats are fake and buggy, someone should test it with a few different accounts.2010-01-19 03:46:00

Several Thousand
I haven't even hit 75 plays on any of my levels.

BUT ON TOPIC. Where do you find these statistics? D:

To find those stats you :

-Go onto "my levels" (left planet)
-Select a level and then changes pages with R1 until you reach the stats

I used to do the not finish level because I can't be bothered to what the scores.
But, it turns out that once you activate the scoreboard, then quit...
It still counts as a completed level. So, now I do this if I do not care about scores.

I sometimes leave before the scoreboard if
1) The level is glitchy, uncompleteable, or extremely difficult
2) If I predict im going to recieve alot of rubbish prizes at the scoreboard
3) If I need to get off and dont have time to finish the level

Well it's no secret that I make levels with pretty much everyone in mind. If I come up with something that I don't think every single player won't be able to do...I take it out.

So my stats should be a good indication.

Flaming Timberland, Pretty Simple and Egyptian Findings are all on around 50%

Flaming Timberland 2 is just under (probably makes sense once you factor in the amount of plays it has had).

Calamity Construction is on 40%. I would say this also makes sense considering that is more 'puzzly' than my other levels.

Surprisingly Industrial Assistance is on 62%. I find that incredible considering before I released it how concerned I was about people entering it alone.

Tribal Ruins is on an amazing 75%. I feel a big part of this could be the length. And I bet if I took the last puzzle out it would add another 5-10% to that as well.

For a standard level, I would say 50% is about right.

Well, infinite lives doesn't help if you're acing it or going for the high score. And there are plenty of levels with non-infinite checkpoints. And I have to admit, I find it harder and harder to start a level all over again after running out of lives. I've been spoiled on the PSP, I tell you!

For a standard level, I would say 50% is about right.

Wow. That's very... low.

So, the average player quits one (decent) level prematurely for every level played to the end. I'm curious how large an influence the avoid-the-scoreboard crowd is.

Low? One of my levels has 30 plays. Only one person ever finished it. Yeah. That's right, one person out of 30 finished my level D:

( Then again, it is pretty hard >_> Even I can't beat it sometimes, and I made it. )

That sucks. I'd go and play your level myself, but I'm afraid I'd just make it 1/31. 2010-01-20 22:56:00

My level Slime World had over 3,000 plays, but only around 60 people actually completed it. At first I found that disappointing, but then I realized that even though most people couldn't beat it, they weren't rating it down which was pretty cool. I thought for sure it would get a low rating if it was too hard.2010-01-23 07:31:00

I have a habit of exiting at the scorboard, before you could choose if you collected community prizes or not, I would jump over prize bubbles and exit at the finish to avoid prizes.2010-01-24 02:53:00
