Maelstrom

Archive: 14 posts

Hello! I'm trying to promote my new stage: Maelstrom. I had to change the name, because of the overwhelming number of stages with the name A Pirate's Life for Me. Well, I thought I would come here and try to get opinions! I just published my new level (It's literally been a year since I published my last). I put a lot of effort into the aesthetics of this one and hope that it is visually pleasing. It's an introductory level to a series of levels I want to do and it's not meant to be difficult at all. Hope to get some opinions! And thanks to anyone who takes the time.2010-01-18 00:45:00

I played your level, and as always, here's a list of things for you to change:
1) if you want the guy in the beginning to be fishing, use a winch
2) make the waterfall look better, look up waterfall tutorial you might find something
3) add some actual game play to it, you didn't do anything challenging or fun in this level...
It did look pretty nice though, and you said that was what you were working on.

F4F: If you come back to this sometime, I would like feedback on my StormWaves level, but its not out yet... so check back later

Thank you for your advice. I will look up how to improve the waterfall. And a winch is a good idea. The only problem I run into is I have no thermometer left to put in fun or challenging things. What's the best way to free up space? And let me know when your level is done. You can message me on the ps3 if you'd like and I'll give it a go.2010-01-18 06:05:00

I never realized how much space pre-rendered objects from the new Pirates of the Caribbean pack took up. I've got plenty of space to add some fun and interesting things!2010-01-18 06:32:00

Hi TruePhilosopher,

I think this has the beginnings of a fun and cute level. I think where I would add a lot of gameplay is in the ruins section. Make it more challenging to get to the treasure. Add some obstacles and different rooms to get through.

I know you said you were out of thermo. Hopefully you found some room getting rid of a few prerendered objects. You also might consider getting rid of the font (A Pirate's Life for Me) at the beginning of the level. I'm not sure how much this adds, especially considering that's not the actual title anymore. THat should create at least some room. You can also reduce the number of different materials that you use, and make smaller pieces instead of one big object. There is a tutorial on this site that talks specifically about thermo management that is helpful.

If you have some time, I'd appreciate feedback on my level "Curse of the Golden Temple".

I think I will try to post pics soon. I'll have to do it with a cellphone though unless anyone has a better idea? At any rate thank everyone for the feedback so far! I've already gone in and done some editing. I've fixed the waterfall and the fishing line thus far. I haven't re-published yet, though cause I want to improve everything first! And to Pennydog: I will try your stage soon! The title makes it sound promising. And I did delete some pre-rendered objects which freed up a ton of space o.O2010-01-19 04:25:00

^That tutorial can help you get nice screenshots for your level, it requires a USB stick though.

Your level sounds interesting, I'll try to look at it.

@Pennydog: I loved Curse of the Golden Temple! That level had great atmosphere and fun challenges. I 5 starred and hearted it! I can tell you put a good deal of effort into it, though and it really paid off.2010-01-19 19:35:00

A pretty good level! The parts i would improve are

The fisherman (use a winch like someone else said)
The jungle part (add a bunch of foliage and stuff here, though i did like the sounds)
Could use some challenging parts and/or a sequel!

4/5 stars and a "Quick" tag.

If you get a chance, can you drop by my level (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=21525-Broken-Dreams-Part-1-Basic-Training)?

I will most definitely try your level RC! I love the feedback I'm getting here. I do intend to make a sequel and on top of that I'm polishing the stage currently. I've fixed the waterfall which I'm now proud of! I also fixed the fisherman and as I've been instructed, adding in some challenging aspects. I'm revamping the entire ruins section to make it longer and rewarding. Also still working on posting pics.2010-01-20 04:33:00
