In the popup whatever thingy telling you that there is a new creator spotlight, it says something like (I dismissed it so I can't remember for sure): "The Creator Spotlight is a bimonthly interview..." Technically bimonthly means once every two months, while semimonthly means twice a month. Or you could just say "The Creator Spotlight is a twice monthly interview..." I know I'm really nitpicking here, and there's more stuff to be done, but still. | 2010-01-17 20:49:00 Author: thekevinexpress Posts: 256 |

Hey, I love picky grammar stuff! No, I actually do. Technically bimonthly means once every two months, while semimonthly means twice a month."Bimonthly" has both meanings: clicky (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/bimonthly) | 2010-01-18 02:26:00 Author: Taffey Posts: 3187 |
Ooh, you just got Taffey PWND! No, seriously, I'm grammar picky, too. But this is not really a big issue. Still fun though. | 2010-01-18 04:39:00 Author: CyberSora Posts: 5551 |

Hmm... I thought someone had already told them this before. I noticed it when the first spotlight came out! Should've said something to get the credit, dang it!! But still nice to let everyone know! | 2010-01-18 16:02:00 Author: piggabling Posts: 2979 |
occurring twice a month; semimonthly But does it really matter! Bimonthly interview has a ring to it | 2010-01-18 16:44:00 Author: Kern Posts: 5078 |
Semimonthly is more specific | 2010-01-18 17:01:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
Twice a month is understandable and clear. And you can delay something without having a bad feeling. ^.^ | 2010-01-18 17:04:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
Fortnightly is actually more accurate than the other suggestions and completely unambiguous. | 2010-01-18 17:11:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
But than you would have to explain to half the world what fortnightly means. | 2010-01-18 17:14:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
Really? Daily - every day weekly - every week monthly - every month fortnightly - every .... Ummmmm. Surely it's not that hard? | 2010-01-18 17:27:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
I double-checked the meaning of the word before I decided to use it in place of "fortnightly", and it actually does mean twice a month (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/bimonthly). As to why I decided to use that instead of "fortnightly", it's due to the fact that a large portion of our visitors don't know what that means, and it's not easy to discern in context. "Bimonthly" is fairly easy to understand even if you've never heard the word before. | 2010-01-18 18:15:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
WHy not just say 'whenever the hell i feel like it' That rules out any doubt about who is in charge. | 2010-01-18 18:20:00 Author: Unknown User |
Fortnightly is actually more accurate than the other suggestions and completely unambiguous. It behooves one to avoid archaic expressions. | 2010-01-18 19:24:00 Author: Taffey Posts: 3187 |
It's not archaic in England, where we speak English Looks like this is a dialect thing TBH and I guess this was what syroc was getting at (went over my head at the time)! It is interesting the differences within languages though. Is fortnight considered archaic too? I still maintain it's the least ambiguous and most accurate, unless you want to go for "every other week" :hero: | 2010-01-18 19:40:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
LOL, just giving you a hard time rtm. I actually think "fortnight" is fine, but then again I've lived in England so it makes sense to me. Like CC said, though, it will probably go over some people's heads. | 2010-01-18 19:43:00 Author: Taffey Posts: 3187 |

If it weren't for the fact that a large chunk of the world (mostly Americans) didn't know what it meant, we'd be using that instead. | 2010-01-18 19:45:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
lol I find it awesome this thread has caused so much debate. I'm American but I love fortnightly. We should have a vote | 2010-01-18 20:16:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
LOL, just giving you a hard time rtm. Hehe, I know. I was just completely oblivious to the fact that a lot of english-speakers wouldn't know it. Round here you'd be considered a simpleton if you didn't understand the word | 2010-01-18 20:23:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

I think it's not that Americans don't now what it means, it's a matter of uneducated Americans not knowing what is means, and thusly causing a ruckus about it instead of looking it up... Personally, I would love fortnightly as well. From a future educator's point of view, it's a good thing to throw out words that others aren't familiar with - it spurns them to look it up, and *gasp* actually learn something. | 2010-01-18 23:14:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Well then there's a simple solution. Make the description "The Creator Spotlight is a fortnightly (that's twice a month for all you uneducated Yanks) interview..." Problem solved. | 2010-01-18 23:25:00 Author: SirPaper Posts: 150 |

It should be 'weekly, but not quite, because every week which is a week after this week, this week being the week in which this is posted, will be a week without a spotlight, until the week following the week following this week, which will in fact be a week with another of these.' Much better, no? | 2010-01-19 20:40:00 Author: Unknown User |

I still maintain it's the least ambiguous and most accurate, unless you want to go for "every other week" :hero: We tried that English stuff here in the U.S. and it just didn't go over too well. As for the most unambiguous, the phrase "twice a month" is slightly better than "every other week" in that it sounds cleaner. "Every other week" feels too informal - like we'll do it every other week UNLESS we don't feel like it. | 2010-01-20 20:10:00 Author: feloneouscat Posts: 89 |
This thread is both hilarious, and very frightening! People are quite correct when they say that bi-monthly can mean either twice a month, or once every two months. It may seem confusing, but the grammar is nevertheless correct. Just like a bi-plane has two wings, but bi-annual flowers only come out every two years, not twice a year. Just like a bi-plane has two wings, but bi-annual flowers only come out every two years, not twice a year. A bi-plane has two wings? ..and all this time I thought they had 4, two on each side! LOL!! | 2010-01-20 20:39:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
As for the most unambiguous, the phrase "twice a month" is slightly better than "every other week" in that it sounds cleaner. "Every other week" feels too informal - like we'll do it every other week UNLESS we don't feel like it. But fortnighly is more accurate too!!!!! In some months the creator spotlight will occur three times, so twice a month is just a downright lie. Good to see you back btw How about biweekly? This actually suffers from the same ambiguity as bimonthly: bi-monthly vs bimonth-ly bi-weekly vs biweek-ly. | 2010-01-20 21:26:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
But fortnighly is more accurate too!!!!! So is saying every two weeks. | 2010-01-20 21:34:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
Oh I'm down with "every two weeks", despite Mr cat doesn't agree that it's unambiguous. "Every two weeks" has all most of the benefits of fortnightly, but it is just a little unweildy IMO. | 2010-01-20 21:37:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Always go with the clearest phrase. For me it's "twice-monthly." | 2010-01-24 07:09:00 Author: TTH247 Posts: 11 |

Actually 'nazi' in 'Grammar nazi' shouldn't be capitalised. Irony Yes it should be! I'm not listening to someone who forgets to put a full stop in when they've finished what they were saying. | 2010-01-24 16:34:00 Author: Leather-Monkey Posts: 2266 |
Wow, this thread is still alive. I suggest taking a new approach. Use "sexvigintanually" in order to equally confuse and annoy everyone. This will not only level the global playing field, but also hopefully spawn more threads just like this one. (My, "sexvigintanually" does sound dirty doesn't it? It actually is the correct Latin phrase... Have fun Googling that everyone. ) | 2010-01-24 17:08:00 Author: Taffey Posts: 3187 |
Yes it should be! I'm not listening to someone who forgets to put a full stop in when they've finished what they were saying. 'Nazi' is a noun for those nasty people who followed Hitler. 'nazi' being used here is a adjective and shouldn't be capitalised. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm sure you will! | 2010-01-24 19:32:00 Author: Zac Posts: 165 |

I Dont seee what the big deal aboout grammer iz. it dont matter what it say "is" is spelt with an "S" and you need a full stop at the end of your sentence. Also don't forget the ' in don't and "don't" shouldn't start with a capital. Oh and one final note you spelt see and about wrong . Should i stop now? | 2010-01-25 16:58:00 Author: Doopz Posts: 5592 |
Since this thread is complaining about grammar where you said "a adjective" You should have said "an adjective". I'm also pretty sure it's not even being used as an adjective. Unless we are now talking about "Nazi grammar", i.e. the grammar of the Nazis.... in this case someone is being metaphorically labeled a Nazi (a "Nazi of grammar", if you like) but it's still a noun. Now, I am going a little out on a limb here, as language is not a specialty, but I believe that the term "Grammar Nazi", would be a noun phrase, where "Nazi" is the main noun and grammar is a modifier of sorts (maybe a qualifier, or something, I don't know the term offhand - it's required for the phrase to have it's intended sense, rather than just adding additional information). Now, as to whether or not it needs a capital, I'm unsure. But it's not an adjective | 2010-01-25 16:59:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
