A new (but fair) tactic for getting plays & feedback?

Archive: 16 posts

okay, so first off, this is not a cheat against the system (unlike h4h), But rather, an honest method I have been using to getting plays.

First, I need to play Quick Play (ugh!), next, once I notice someone in my party frustrated, dying a lot, not knowing where to go, or what have you, that may be negative, I simply return to pod, and see if they'll opt to follow me back.

If they do, I will head to my info moon, and load one of my levels, or level from a creator who makes good quality levels.

Given the amount of people I find willing to follow me to my Pod in Quick Play, I don't usually have a problem getting plays for levels of mine, or levels I like.

Has anyone else ever tried this? If you're looking for plays, I'd very highly recommend in addition to LBP Central.

Of course, the downside is that some Quick Players act really idiotic, and simply like to stand there making costumes.

I guess it could work but to get a substantial difference it would probably take months...2010-01-17 16:24:00

NOt a bad idea, but most players will quit once they get to your pod anyway >_<2010-01-17 16:48:00

Not all of them, I actually sort of did a test to see how long most people would stay with you after quickplay and depending on how annoying you are, they will stay for a good one or two levels after, some even try to friends you.

well it's more of a word-of mouth tactic. People see your level, or a level by a talented creator you like, and maybe, they tell their friends about that level. If there's something they have trouble with, it can give you ideas of what you need to fix.

many fixes that have gone into my most current have been through this.

To mention one downside, some people who quick play are kinda... well... stupid...
If you find yourself with someone who just wants to stand there and customize their sack person,
they are not likely to be helpful.

Also, I do believe in returning the favor. If they've played the level I was showing them, and played it in full, and would like to leave to there pod, I opt to follow. They very well might show utter junk h4h stuff, but they might show me something new and interesting.

The problem is weather they spread the word or not though, I wouldn't want to play 5 hours with 5 different strangers to see no new plays on the level except those 5. It make seem quixotic but more likely depends on the situation.2010-01-18 11:19:00

Well, you need to ask yourself which demographic is playing games via quickplay?

My guess is its not the discriminating people on the neverending search for AAA levels. By that idea, I doubt they spend much time, if any, bringing new people back to your level. The very notion that they access levels by quickplay means they don't search for specific levels... not even on the cool pages... *shudder*

My thoughts are that you are essentially grabbing people by the hand to get them to increase your playcounter one at a time. You could probably do a lot better by simply advertising here on LBPC or putting "BOMB SURVIVAL" or "WATER" if your title (regardless of whether your level contains either of those).

Fair enough. They are generally of a poorer taste in levels than anyone here, and are likely not to be to choosy. Thus, they don't give too much concern about the important details about quality.

I was never under the intention to 'grab people by the hand' to increase play count. They have every right to leave, and if there is problems, they do.

I do promote my levels here, as can be seen in my sig (not a plug, just saying), and I would never stoop to calling a level, "Crazy H4H Bomb Water Challenge (Trophy Edition)"

I see your point, and there is some flaws to my method, but that doesn't mean that nothing comes out of it.

yea. this is a slow, but honest-ish way of geting plays. and you will geta better idea of how people react to your level if you are in there with them2010-01-20 01:32:00

*also make a note that it IS little BIG kidnapping. thats its new official title, and i feel that we, as maverics in the LBP universe, are fully equipped to kidnap someone if it means that more 5 star levels get seen than bomb survivals. so... Kidnap a player, save a level.2010-01-20 01:35:00

cripes kidnapping sounds so evil.

As I said, most people can and do leave, and that people who quick play are usually stupid, but also, plays only matter in an indirect way. More plays should simply mean our levels have more appeal. Play counts are not bragging rights, I just like people to experience what I have made, and what others have made. More plays = higher appeal (unless we're talking about trophy addicts levels)
