F4F: Curse of the Golden Temple
Archive: 22 posts
Hi everyone. It has been some time since I have posted on lbpcentral. This has been primarily due to Assassins Creed 2 and Modern Warfare 2. Hence, it is has taken quite a long time to make this level. I think level has some great visuals, fun game play, and challenging puzzles. Hope you enjoy. Story line: You have been searching for the famed Golden Temple, rumored to contain treasures beyond belief. However, no one who has gone searching for the temple has ever returned. Will you find the treasure? Or will you suffer the fate of those gone before you? Here are some pics: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=11738 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=11735 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=11736 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=11737 | 2010-01-16 23:28:00 Author: pennydog Posts: 74 |
Played the level, it was awesome. The visuals were great all around, the puzzles were pretty cool, and the platforming areas were fun and unique. The boss was good as well. The only problem was the part where you jump down onto the moving platform that flings you up to the sponge on the winch. It was very difficult to land on because there were other objects in the layer behind it that I usually landed on instead. Overall though, I loved it. 5/5 and heart. Please give me some feedback on my level (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=21278-Mysterious-Planet-Black-Ore). Thanks. | 2010-01-17 04:34:00 Author: Camden1 Posts: 83 |
The level looks great. Like a real ancient temple. However i got stuck at the boss guy. I shotted him one time and he disappeared, nothing happened and i remained stuck in that room with the 2 blocks shotting fire at me. Looks awesome any way, great work! F4F my Rise of Undeath level tnx. | 2010-01-17 13:34:00 Author: Flame Dragon Posts: 312 |
Hi Camden1: thanks for the feedback. I have removed some of the obstacles and simplified the area quite a bit. I think it should be quite a bit simpler now. Left some feedback on your level as well. Hi Flame Dragon: thanks for your feedback as well. I am perplexed by what you saw. I think I may know how it happened, if you made a 1 in a million shot. I will test this out and see if I can recreate it. Feedback on your level coming shortly. | 2010-01-17 22:28:00 Author: pennydog Posts: 74 |
found the problem with the boss and corrected. had the wrong type of creature brain. Thanks again for that feedback, because I would never have found that on my own! | 2010-01-18 02:34:00 Author: pennydog Posts: 74 |
Hey pennydog! Thanks for the reply on my level, and the positive comments! I just played through your level and was really impressed. The only thing I would suggest is to put a little more decorations in...other than that...it was fun. | 2010-01-19 08:26:00 Author: shawneboi Posts: 221 |
Wow, I played this level right after you published it (when it only had 20 some plays) and now today I see it on LBPCentral. D?j? vu. When I played through the other night I ran into a bug, I tried to describe it in your comment section but I guess you didn?t get what I was trying to say cuz you just said "there is no bug u have to let go and grab again until it gets to the top" haha ya I figured that part out. You fixed the problem (you added a little stopper on the key elevator) I was trying to describe in the comments section so it's cool now but uh...... ya.... I TOLD YA SO! Haha sorry, I couldn?t resist. And I can only say that now cuz you have waaaaaaaay more hearts and plays than me. Anyway, this is a great level. It's a great mix of puzzle, platforming, boss, and story. My only suggestion would be to add some more stickers and doo-dads. They don't take up much thermo room and some of the back wall looked a little bland. No biggy though, still a 5 star level. :star::star::star::star::star: For the F4F check out my sig below. | 2010-01-20 06:01:00 Author: pacosanchez88 Posts: 32 |
Just finished playing this - I loved it! Pros: - The beginning visuals were awesome (the boat, the good choice of background, lights, etc) - I loved the puzzles - they felt original and I thought were well done - The story was fun! I thought the end was clever - Secrets in a level is always a good thing - I found all of them! - For some reason I really liked the spinning suns in front of the door - Also, the platforming was a nice touch - I liked the thin platforms that you'd grab on to and they would flip you over - The ending was satisfying Cons & Fixes: - The puzzle where you had to fill the square with the flaming logs.. honestly, I felt that it was very intuitive and that the help text only hurt the solving process. I know some people need spoon fed through levels, but still. - The puzzle where you have to grab onto a box to shoot flaming logs into a red buttom... after hitting the button, the stairs appear. I ran up the stairs and somehow got stuck in the box. Not sure how? - To be totally honest, I wasn't a huge fan of the end boss - here's why: All I had to do was stand in the back left corner and shoot like mad until he died. I think I would have liked to see more puzzle elements in defeating the boss; which could still use the paintinator. Also, in this section, after defeating the boss I naturally ran to the left. But then I felt like I should just check to make sure I wasn't missing anything so I ran back to the right. You have a monster sound that is triggered by player proximity, which I think should just be incorporated into the boss logic, that way when the boss dies the monster sound won't activate anymore. Also, the music kicked back in.. same deal.. just hook that up to some logic that says when the boss dies, it won't activate anymore. - I would give the rolling rock another second or two to start because if the player doesn't immediately run they won't make it. It seemed like I had to start running even before I saw the rock coming towards me. - Very small nit pick, but I think the small spinning platforms with the spikes need sounds when they move. Something funny - I got the "salty dog" trophy for playing your level. I thought it was funny because of your screen name and because of something next to the scoreboard Overall: - Very nice level - I thoroughly enjoyed it - 5 :star:'s - Heart for the level F4F: I'd appreciate it if you gave my level a try - Celestia: An Age Abandoned (see signature) thanks! | 2010-01-20 15:31:00 Author: Powershifter Posts: 668 |
Hi Pacosanchez, Yes, I know what your comment meant now. Thank you for that and coming back to clarify even after i flamed it . I thought maybe that was the problem you had because when I was playing it online with a group of 3 random players, they did not seem to realize they needed to let go and pull the switch again. So, at least to some, that seemed to not be obvious. Hence why I added some dialog there. Thanks for the feedback. I'll play your level tonight. BTW, like your icon. Hi Powershifter, Thanks for you feedback. I still can't read the spoiler tags for now. Can you PM me with the text in those spoilers? I'll be sure to try your level tonight. Thanks again! | 2010-01-20 19:20:00 Author: pennydog Posts: 74 |
Wow, I'm blown away by your level. The puzzles are interesting and the flow of the level is just right. At first, I thought there was limited hints. But, as I kept dying, the hints were at the most convenient place. Your temple stage is awesome. 5/5 stars and hearted. My returned F4F: + Great design + Good platforming + Neat idea with pushing the blocks into the walls that then blow up. Nicely done. - I got stuck in the scenery beside the fireplace with the sackboy statue either side and had to pop - Died a few too many times with fire and candles that were in there for aesthetics rather than actual dangers. I really hate getting killed by those stupid candles ( not just this level, it's just a general gripe of mine with the candles ). I'd rather see other lights used by everyone for lighting instead of them. The fire on the side of the block you push after lifting it higher also killed me. Don't know if that was meant as a danger or not? - The part where you light the statues eyes and the platform throws you up high. I got up top but was then confused about what to do up there so I dropped down again thinking I must have missed something. Unfortunately then the platform wouldn't throw me up again. I kept hitting the statue's chin instead. Luckily the last checkpoint activated was up top so i managed to pop back there but it could have been a level breaker. Overall - Well made, fun level which was only spoiled by the dying on 'safe'? stuff and having to pop a lot. | 2010-01-21 16:10:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
Hi Mistervista, Thanks for the feedback. Question: Were you standing on the red square of the platform? I did find that if you stand in other spots on the platform, you can hit the statue and other objects, but the red square always worked when I tested it. If you were on the red square, I'll have to figure out how to fix that. | 2010-01-21 19:31:00 Author: pennydog Posts: 74 |
I just played this one. This is a really nice level! The visuals are top notch, and it's full of good platforming, and hidden treasure. Everything went very smoothly for me, so no problem getting through it. The only thing I didn't really like is when you have to swing on the big heavy lights. It's just something I'm not too fond of, as I think it takes away from the flow when you have to swing back and fourth. They did look cool though. Great level!! could you give feedback on my hot pepper hustle? Thanks. | 2010-01-22 01:03:00 Author: smasher Posts: 641 |
Yeah pennydog I made sure to stand on the red square. | 2010-01-22 02:32:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
hmmmm.....i am not sure how to fix that yet. i may have to rework the entire statue. at least for now i added another checkpoint right at the top in case someone misses the other one further off to the left. i have worked on making the candles inaccessible by adding glass. thanks for checking back and letting me know. | 2010-01-22 07:06:00 Author: pennydog Posts: 74 |
Just played it - very nice! This level had nice atmosphere, story, visuals, and some great platforming. I read all the messages above so as not to repeat too much. Here are a few thoughts: - The waterfall near the beginning. Not sure if its possible, but I thought the blinking when the glass was emitted was distracting. Maybe emit further up? But the effect of the waterfall was beautiful, so not a huge deal. - The bouncy platform going left and right - bounced up, went to right to get the hidden bubbles, jumped down - and there was a bit of messy material to the right that I felt could be corner edited to look a bit better. - Story - It was a really cool story, but I didn't think drama in the story was built up enough. I felt you could have used some creating text near the beginning to make it more evident that sackboys were turned into gold... I think if you spent a bit more story on the building of the story near the beginning I would have cared more about what my part was in the story. - I would have also liked to see the sackboys turned from gold to normal at the end. I didn't quite get that the sackboys I ran into were the ones that were once gold. Minor quibbles, though - great stuff! 5 stars and hearted. | 2010-01-24 03:12:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
I just wanted to say I had great fun playing your level this afternoon. The visuals are excellent as is the atmosphere you manage to create. I loved the puzzles and the platforming too and I am always pleased when a level has secrets in it! Highlights for me: - The start of the level and the entrance into the temple - The stone statue that lifts you up - awesome - The cool contraptions which blow up the walls - The little Sackboy statues with the eyes that blink - All round fun platforming - The secrets Thanks - I didn't find any hitches but I agree with CCubbage that it would make a superb end to the level if you could see the Sackboys changed back but I expect you wouldn't have enough thermo left! 5 stars and hearted | 2010-01-24 21:52:00 Author: shropshirelass Posts: 1455 |
Good level I really loved the story and the details. The obstacles are very complex and even inspire. The boss fight was very original and somwhat difficult. Overall very good level, 5 out of 5 and a heart. For F4F, check out my signature. | 2010-01-25 00:59:00 Author: Unknown User |
thanks everyone! I've gotten a lot of great feedback and managed to incorporate most of it. I did make some changes to show the statues turning back into sackboys just today. That did completely fill up thermometer! I will get your F4F's shropshirelass and Numba1J3east_ by end of day tomorrow. | 2010-01-25 05:33:00 Author: pennydog Posts: 74 |
