Steamworks

Archive: 14 posts

At this current time I am working on quite a large project called Steamworks. It's my first proper attempt at a detailed level series, my past levels have been very short and quite frankly rubbish. But this story driven adventure is going to be my masterpiece. But enough of all this waffling, Ladies and Gentlemen, I am in need, in order for me to continue in one of the levels I am constructing I need to make a large spider walker, reminiscent of that Will Smith movie Wild Wild West, I was wondering if it was possible for someone to send me working mech walker legs which I would be able to edit myself? Just add me on PSN if you're ready willing and able, your name will of course be accredited for the production of the end vehicle.

Here's the generic teaser pitch for the series-

<Hilsan, a small quiet town on the outskirts of Imperial City, its inhabitants are peaceful, hard working folk, who love their nation with undying loyalty. This loyalty..was not rewarded... The dreaded Steamworks Industries have begun their expansion through the countryside, deforesting, mining and burning all in its path. With the dreaded Admiral Pickering at their lead, the Steamworks Sky Navy has hellfire raining down on innocent families to drive them from their home, all for industrial progress. You take the role of Bartimaius Finch (and his friends). A quiet inventor merely visiting Hilsan, you experience the atrocities first hand as the dreadful mechanised Steamworks Industries crushes, slices and grinds its way across the landscape. It is up to you to find out the source of this trouble and help stop it!>

Features enough Steampunk related inventions to make your skin turn blue, why it would do that I wouldn't know, BUT IT WILL!

So yeah, help with the mech legs would be appreciated

Wow this sounds freaking awesome!!! I must say though, that in a way the story sort of sounds abit like Avatar, which isn't a bad thing. I loved Avatar and this sounds like it's gonna be an amazing level or series of levels. And about the spider mech thing, i'm not sure if I can help you with that but if your accept help with the levels themselves then if its alright I would love to be an assitant in making this epic project.2010-01-16 19:50:00

I aimed for the Avatar themed storyline for one of two reasons, it's a good way to flare up people's attention for shocking events to happen and also because I'm going to use everyone's standard belief that the underdogs are the good guys to flip the story about on them xD

I'll send you two an inv on PSN at some point and see about getting some level work going once I've got the base design of the proper levels done.

At the moment I have the intro level published which is nowhere near as epic as I want the proper levels to be. I'm starting work on the proper Part One in which the village gets attacked and you're forced to flee into the woods. I'll be retracting the rubbish intro tomorrow evening ^^

I already googled for some Steampunk images for my level, and i'm learning the style. It's very cool, a mix of retro and technologic, very stylish. I'll check your invite as soon as i log in the PSN, then we can try to make something 2010-01-17 23:33:00

[shameless plug] If you want some brief inspiration, or at least an example of an existing steam-punk level, do check out my level "Steam Paint - Sub-Urbia". [/shameless plug]

Sounds like a good idea so far. What will be the purpose of the walker, is it a sack controlled vehicle or a boss, as that will influence the complexity of the object (at least I find sack-control to be more complex, also, a boss does not necessarily have to be free standing so building one suspended by invisible connectors would be far easier).

I am such an idiot xD I should've stated that in the first place, it's going to be a simple vehicle operated by a two way lever switch. You flick it to the on position and the walker starts off on its journey, from there on the player(s) have to man various anti-air defenses on the spider. I've gone through ever single mech tutorial imagineable and still can't get anything to work, I'm useless with legs.
Oh and I played your steam paint levels before, they're what got me into making Steampunk stuff on LBP

Youtube1, sorry about the disconnection earlier, powercut on my street messed everything up.

Glad to be of assistance!

Unfortunately, I too am useless when it comes to legs so I'll be opting out from helping you in that department.

No problem xD At the moment I'm going to put the spider mech on hold, it'll cause too much of a delay for testing when I haven't even got a decent start on the first level, so tomorrow instead of crying about broken legs I'll be getting to work on fiery set pieces and screaming children, oh the joy 2010-01-19 22:35:00
