Fortune and Glory: Harrison's Fjord

Archive: 6 posts

Visit exotic Harrison's Fjords! What better place to make a name for yourself? Discover the Yeti's treasure. Go whale-watching, collect postcards & coins. This and more is waiting for you at luxurious Harrison's Fjords. Booking 1P accommodations now.

There's not a lot to be said for this my newest level, it features water and is an ode to the beauty therein. It has a trick start, (and I think...) a neat ending. In between is a slow swim to the right...

It features by far the simplest platforming I've created to date and my modest hopes for it ...are simply that people will actually finish it!

Fortune & Glory: Harrison's Fjord by the #'s

Greetings!

Unfortunately as the level starts, i get the 'you do not own blah blah..' message which means I miss all the credits. My cage then lands squarely on a spotlight which looks ugly/weird and I'm stuck. I restarted, same issue. I'm wondering if the 'wake up' is a clue so I kill myself and respawn elsewhere. I guess I'm not sure whether that was a bug or intended.

I just jumped on some sort of snowspeeder, which promptly overturned and killed me. Vehicle is very weird. Seems to be activated by prox switches which means when I try and rescue petey, the craft is trying to follow me which means I cant get on the platform right. My next attempt I jumped forward onto Petey, rescued him, and then couldn't get back onto my ship.

Climbed the polar bear - visable water switch - intentional? I can't bounce up to the checkpoint after the gas squares, which means I've been through the same section about 4 times now. I finally activated the checkpoint... but I can't get past the '3 squares in a bunch'. I died about 10 times here. I FINALLY get past it with the correct jump. Spring up.. and I see a big yellow arrow. I follow it down, but the camera pulls out wide and I can't really see where I am. I hit some gas by a small white area that I couldnt see and respawn RIGHT AT THE START OF THE LEVEL by the penguin.

Sorry, but I'm not going through again, and I can't kill myself, because the early checkpoint is already activated. I really wanted to get through this as you had written it was a challenge and was for 'die hards' but the level was just too frustrating. I came close to quitting a number of times before the respawn at the start finally finished me off.

I like the bluey atmosphere and the glowing lights make a nice arctic background.

The gameplay to me is more frustrating than hard. I LIKE hard, but I didnt like this, sorry :-(

I realise I didn't get through it, but I did spend time and effort trying to get through this. My F4F level is my sig, thanks.

While I'm on your @gravel.. i see the best name of a level ever - you can't tune a piano but you can tune a chimp - HAS TO BE PLAYED. The monkey on cello is amazing. loved it. space cows are funny. I then walk past a load of logic and vault up a sofa. then take a ride on a bee into a musical flower? I have no idea what this level is but the artwork is lovely. I didn't see the beatles, but I would have liked to!

Thank you for your honest feedback... both you and luos have been on a tear lately and the feedback is usually spot-on (IMHO) so I will indeed be taking it to heart. If I have any problems deciphering some of your comments... as they are numerous... I may have to call again. Sorry I frustrated you (this time) that was not the intention. I am beginning to think I need to scrap the "Open" concept I've been striving for... bite the bullet, and build in the box. Thank you very much. I believe there is a viable level deep down in here.2010-01-16 15:12:00

Hey Gravel,

Ok so I have played it, and as it turns out more than once.

When you showed me around before completion I made a few comments but in no way wanted to interfere with your creative process. You are an artist...plain and simple...BUT in saying that I think I also point out something artist sometimes forget...your audience isn't always as smart or artistically inclined so they miss some of what your doing or trying to do. By this I mean you as an artist may see the light you land on at the beginning as a 'arty touch' but to the avg player it looks like something broke or was done by someone much younger...

Now once you kill yourself/pop (If you don't just exit the level thinking something is wrong) then you are treated to a sm?rg?sbord of sights, and a heaping helping of tricky platforming!

The section where you go through three times is a killer and without an infinite life checkpoint you are bound to run off the majority of your players. You know I don't like those dang things but since we just started the level I really have no idea why I want to restart to continue.

Later on your vision is seen in all its glory and can be appreciated.

You have/make some incredibly beautiful sights to behold.

I am going home (from work) right now and have another play through as my memory isn't what it used to be and I want to be sure of what I am writing is what is there.

But for now this is a starting point for you to look at and think about.

I will comment more later.

Ah, thank you for posting and sugar coating. Everyone seems to be in agreement with the popping/naked light. It's just how to change at this pt without dismantling? The thermometer pops with any adjustment-- I had hoped to add a little set dressing- but it is suppose to catch the player off-kilter not send them off...

The platforming area with the ice cubes now all has infinite lives... (on my moon). so perhaps people wont pack up so fast... Curious Aj? could you navigate the ice barge or should I elastic it down so it cant flip? that would negate a bonus area above it but free-up a hare of thermometer?

X2....And it happens again

I am at home using PS3 browser to send this which uses the L2 & R2 buttons to go back and forward through web pages...the cat just nudged back when I was done typing this message 10 minutes ago...and when you hit forward you lose everything...sigh

Anyway...

Gas...I think there might be a bit too much of it...its gives a cool smokey look with the ice and water but it is deadly and you cant always tell where it is causin.... 'cheap deaths'..this was troubelsome on the Yeti's heads killed me several times as there are regular checkpoints here. I wasnt able to push the buttons above the roof in this section either.

I died several times and I am stuck at the rip tide section...I have grabbed the thing, gotten the message from him and swam to the light but cant figure out what to do after that...

I am only giving my humble opinion, please ignore if you wish

Duh...EDIT: The barge is cool just to slow but I didnt know there was anything above it...some bubbles to jump at on the ride over would help...i didnt have any trouble with it though...except I kept dying and having to take the long ride over and over again
