Hollywood just called, and Solid Snake is a no go for the silver screen.

Kojima, producers of the Metal Gear Solid series, has always brought stealth into the game business and has always found success, so why not in your local movie theater? Here's a comment from Mike De Luca, a film producer, about what he thought about the topic:

I don't think it's going to move forward because I got the sense that there may not be enough of a coordinated will at this point on the side of certain parties to see a movie get made. And I get it because the problem with a lot of these adaptations is it's such a huge franchise for the video game company. A movie can only hurt. If the movie?s great, you?re probably not going to sell more games. It's such a separate thing. The franchise being as big as it kind of helps the movie?I?m not sure the movie does the same thing for the game.

The video game companies are very protective of their property and there are certain things a studio requires freedom-wise to market and distribute a movie effectively in a global marketplace and sometimes getting those two things to match up is really hard.

So a movie is a bad idea? Personally I think he's right. If they would just remember what happens to a game when it hits the big screens *coughs "Hitman!"* then good for them. Only time I see this as a movie is if it's animated and the original Metal Gear Solid cats do the characters' voices. But if you still want to see Snake on the silver screen, then don't worry, Prince of Persia took 20 years to become a movie, so there's still time.

I would prefer kojima to do a movie more like advent children, I have always said if the CGI'd the play bit from MGS4 and played that and all the cutscenes back to back i would watch it, multiple times.2010-01-16 09:21:00

Snake? Snake?! SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!

... Yeah, it WOULD fail if it was made

My brother and I had an idea of a movie tat had the plots of MGS3 and Metal Gear 1 (the original one) mashed together and had parallels behind them and shows what Big Boss did to become what he was... but yeah that wouldn't happen. Good thing it didn't i spose :/.

Its not "misson aborted?" its "Fission Mailed?" lol
i guess its for the best, its obvious by now that games dont translate very well into movies
i think its for the gameplay parts, theres no way to turn 6+ hours of playing into a 2 hour movie and keep a good quality and its even harder with all those crazy directors

I'm glad there's no Hollywood movie, it would ruin the series name no doubt.

As someone mentioned, there's a fan film called Metal Gear Solid Philanthropy if anyone want a film. It's alright, but is only a part 1 of 2 or 3. It's a bit annoying to have it just suddenly end with very little explained.
And for anyone who wants a true Metal Gear Solid movie, get MGS3 Subsistence as it comes with the a disc which is all the cutsenes put together with bits of gameplay so it basically a VERY long movie. Good though! It's just a huge shame the quality kinda ruined it :/

Hollywood always seems to ruin games when they try to turn it into a movie. Just look at Max Paine. I can only see Metal Gear Solid as an animated movie.2010-01-17 21:34:00

MGS philanthropy is a good movie though for it only being a part time thing for them. I hope they finish the others in the series because it is really good.2010-01-18 09:24:00

I'm going to check that fan made movie later. As for right now, I feel bad for Snake. He was so looking foward to the movie being made.

Thank God. I don't want the film industry messing with a franchise I respect.2010-01-19 00:20:00

I found the website for the fan made movie.

Metal Gear Solid: Philanthropy (http://www.mgs-philanthropy.net/main/?page_id=166&lang=en)

It's actually very good. I think these guys should handle the movie, or just make the movie animated.
