Spirit Cave

Archive: 13 posts

A perilous journey through the lost caves lokking for lost explorers, the Spirit of the Cave, and of course, a way out. This level took a good amount of time to make so please don't thrash it's name. My beta tester (LilvliT--) played trough it and it took him about 8 mins 30 secs. Please report any glitches or bugs to me. I can't upload any pictures because my computer is slow but please play it, once again, it is called "Spirit Cave" THXS. EDIT: Heres some pictures of Spirit Cave:http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/ae48/jpm91297/DSC00399.jpg Here's another:http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/ae48/jpm91297/DSC00400.jpg And another:http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/ae48/jpm91297/DSC00397.jpg2010-01-16 02:15:00

This level was alright... but it wasn't really very fun...
Anyway, the things you can do to fix it are:
1) use corner editor to remove all of the unwanted corners
2) Make your own, more challenging enemies
3) Make some original, fairly difficult obstacles (Swinging over fire isn't fun any more...)
Anyway, that's a lot, but those are all really big things to improve!

Ok so I checked it out and I also played your other one (your first level). There is definitely a big improvement from the first one you made so you’re moving in the right direction.

Here are some tips for future levels.
- try not to use premade objects or enemies, most of the time it just looks like your level is half finished
- try to hide dissolve material when possible, there were several places in this level where I could see big blocks of dissolve material and it ruins the surprise because I know what will happen next. PUT A STICKER ON IT!
- And lastly, don’t ask for hearts (it's in your level description). Nothing annoys me (and other gadders) like a user asking for hearts (or H4H). Hopefully you enjoy making levels and that’s why you do it. We all like hearts and some of us still desire that elusive trophy (I can taste it! it tastes like cherries... yum) but you should never ask for hearts. What’s the point of getting hearts if you don’t earn them?

Keep up the good work, I think what you need most is practice. As you play with the tools more, your levels will get better. For the F4F check out my signature or "my creation" under my name. Either of my two levels are welcome for feedback.

Thanks for playing my level and giving me some good suggestions and I''l play all your levels soon. But anyways, I fixed some things in my level in a v1.02 that I just published a couple of minutes ago. Some things that I fixed:
-Added music
-Put stickers over dissolve material
-Fixed minor glitches
-Changed description( I didn't ask for hearts)
-I'm working on a v1.03 that will have all new enemies
As for harder obstacles, I can't really fix anything without actually making a whole new level.

Once again THXS for the siggestions and playing the level. And try to check out "Spirit Cave v1.02".

Nice level, sounds like you are making some good progress. Here are few comments I have in addition to those above:

- In some instances you pull switches and it activates doors or other things far away. A good way to add polish to the level is to add a magic mouth with camera angle that will activate when the switch is pulled. Then the player will see what they have done with the switch.
- There is one key you have to drag to activate doors. On the section where you swing over the fire pit, there is just an identical key on the other side. Why not make it more of a challenge and keep continuity? Once the player swings over to the other side, put another switch somewhere that will close off the pit so they can drag the key across. Make sure though that somewhere you have a key emit in case they lose it in the fire pit.
- At the beginning you mention that the spirit will give a reward, but I'm not sure what that is. There is a big line of prize bubbles at the end, but it's not clear that its from the spirit because you don't see her again and you are outside of the temple.

Thank you for the suggestions, about the reward, I was going to add prizes in the v1.02 that i released. But I kinda forgot so i'm working on the v1.03 that I mentioned above to fix some minor glithches (I will look into adding the things you mentioned, Pennydog) and that will more then likely give you prizes in the Spirit's room as well as prizes at the end.

Thanks again for the suggestions and look out for v1.03 coming in the next week or two. (My internet on my PS3 isn't working for some reason so I can't publish; I'm hoping to get that fixed soon.)

Sorry for double post!!!

v1.03 of Spirit Cave is now out so check it out! Things I added:
-Added prizes in the Spirit's room as well as at the end.
-Fixed minor glitches
-Used pennydog's idea for when you drag the idol, you now have to pull a switch to extend a bridge, there are some emiters in case you lose the idol.
-Added some new stickers, decorations to polish it up.
I am still working on new enemies so I am going to release a v1.04 that will have them soon, not sure when.
More feedback is welcome and please report any glitches to me because some parts are still glitchy.

Too many dirty tricks. There should at least be some sort of visual cue where the traps are, even if they are very discrete.

Also, remember to name your prizes.
