Why Does "Failed to Connect to Players" Still Plague Us?

Archive: 16 posts

I'm getting really tired of this error. Ever since I started playing LittleBigPlanet I've always been getting this with someone on my friends list. Inviting, being invited, joining, re-relogging in to PSN via the XMB, re-logging in via LBP, and re-connecting to my LAN all fail to solve the problem. I remember that re-signing in to PSN sometimes worked months in the past, but it doesn't now. Just a couple of days ago I tried to connect to someone I've been playing online with ever since we both got the game and all of a sudden I can't. We didn't update our PS3s, we didn't update LBP, we didn't change our network settings, we didn't do anything different! And port-forwarding is difficult to test because few people who play online actually know the somewhat tedious process. And this is pretty much the only sure-fire suggested "solution" that I've come across.

I'm really surprised that Leerdammer didn't clean this mess up. This problem is now happening more than ever and almost half of my friends are plagued with it. It's really getting old.

There are 2 goals I want to achieve:
1) Finding the cause
2) Finding the solution

Anybody have any ideas?

Maybe its your internet connection and nothing to do with PSN? I have a friend who has the same problem, however he claims its his crappy internet to blame.2010-01-15 19:02:00

I get this sometimes, but only with certain friends and not others.

One thing we found is that if one of you has been in Create Mode, I get Failed to Connect every time. My friends restarts his PS3, and then I can join him. I'm not sure if this is similar to what you've experienced, but I can't offer anything else, sorry.

Hey, Yes I have the complete same problem with you, We've had alot of snow over the past couple of weeks and I was suggesting that it was that. Although this happens to me it only happens to one player... I have realised that because christmas has just recently past, alot of players have joined the LittleBigPlanet community making it quite busy so i suggest it could maybe be that, it used to be around 7k-8k on an average night (mon-fri) but now it's almost 13k. I hope this helps you, if it's been happening since after christmas then I reckon it's the amount of players playing I'll let you know if I find anything out.
Thanks!

I sometimes get this but it's easily solved by turning my PS3 off then back on again. So you've obviously got it just slightly worse then me...2010-01-15 22:30:00

I think I tried that once, not sure. How did you turn it off? Using the power button or the switch on the back? (Unless you have a slim)

With me I usually have to unplug my router and high-speed modem for atleast 5 mins, then I can USUALLY connect with whoever I'm having the trouble with. If that doesn't work, I use the method MrsSpooky said by having the friend reset his or her PS3/router/modem etc.2010-01-16 02:25:00

Usually if you know your connection is good and your friends connecting is good, it is the servers to blame. Mm set them up to be P2P (peer to peer) which is about one of the worst connections you can get to another player in an online game.

Other than that try shutting off your PS3 and power cycle your router and your modem. If you want lasting effects turn off all computers and other devices that connect to the router in your house and power cycle your modem and router for 24 hours. This will ensure the modem actually shut off as many have back-up batteries.

Hello again, I agree with GreyMRP, Make sure the cable is tightly in on your WI-FI box first or just clean the gap where the cable goes in to connect to it just incase it's maybe full of dust... and if you read my previous message that may help aswell2010-01-16 13:27:00

I don't believe resetting your modem/router is neccessary. And I really don't recommend draining the internal battery of your router either, as doing so will reset your network settings and screw things up.

This morning I had this problem with 2 different people. I reset my PS3 3 times in order to connect to one person, but I failed. He also "didn't want to reset" his PS3. It may seem dumb, but that situation is vital scientific information on the nature of this problem. Another guy signed on and wanted to join me. I said go ahead. He said that he was also getting "failed to connect to players". So was I when trying to join or accepting invites. So I told him about resetting and we both restarted and went back into LBP. He sent me an invite, I accepted, and we were on our way.

So the hypothesis of both/all users restarting their systems now has more credibility! Please try this workaround with your friends and post your results so we can hopefully come to some real theory on how to stomp out this problem.

I've been having the same issue! Seems like it will happen to one player (no one in particular) and me, but then I can connect to everyone else just fine. Then the next day I'll have no trouble at all with that player. I've found no solution other than waiting a day, because restarting our systems has not seemed to help.2010-01-17 19:19:00

I get this problem to sometimes what i do when this happens is reset my internet on my ps3. It will sign you out and you just have to put in the info again or do what i do and put easy connection, something like that, then when its done try again and it should work. If not ask your friends to reset thier internet then try. Hope i helped 2010-01-17 22:21:00

I guess it depends on the specific problem that happened which is hard t tell except for the error messages. Also resetting a router/modem shouldn't reset any of your settings.2010-01-17 22:32:00

Weird, I have this problem sometimes too. It's mostly when someone tries to join my friend and I in create mode. They really need to fix this.2010-01-18 00:55:00
