Can't think of a movie I want to watch tonight, so I'm hoping the LBPC hive-mind can come up with something good in the next two hours. Last great movie I watched was Moon. No horror/splatter or silly comedies like American Pie, please. Preferably something relatively recent ie from the last 10 years. Edit: Oh, other films I watched recently and enjoyed: Amelie War Dance 500 Days of Summer Babylon Lost in Translation Up Frequently asked question about time travel V for Vendetta State of Play 300 Hotel Rwanda Coraline In the Loop | 2010-01-15 17:06:00 Author: Syroc ![]() Posts: 3193 |
Ok, I just watched a movie called "Ink." It's a low budget film that was AMAZING! If you have Netflix, it's on Watch-it-Now, or you could just rent the blu-ray disc. If you're bothered by profanity, it does have an excess amount, but mostly by one guy. Other than that, I was highly impressed - especially considering it's not a multi-million dollar movie. | 2010-01-15 17:10:00 Author: Powershifter ![]() Posts: 668 |
Ink is not available by the looks of it. Profanity is fine, as is sex and violence as long as it is not the main point of the whole movie. ![]() | 2010-01-15 17:37:00 Author: Syroc ![]() Posts: 3193 |
Ok, here's a few more off the top of my head in no particular order: - Star Trek (the newest one) - Disturbia - Wolverine Origins - Doubt (no action, but good story) - Knowing - Yes Man - Taken - Twilight - Death Race - Get Smart - 10,000 BC - Shooter - The Guardian - The Burbs (from 1989, but hands down my favorite comedy of all time. Tom Hanks stars in it... you'll either love it or hate it lol but I loved it) | 2010-01-15 18:06:00 Author: Powershifter ![]() Posts: 668 |
Thanks. Going to work through that list over the next few days/weeks. | 2010-01-15 18:17:00 Author: Syroc ![]() Posts: 3193 |

A few I've watched recently and enjoyed: Memento - Made in 2000, a great movie about a man who suffers short term memory loss. 26th on IMDB's top 250 user favourites. Info (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0209144/). The boat that rocked - Apparantly, 2009's best "feel good" movie. It also features the actor Chris O'Dowd from "Frequently asked question about time travel". Info (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1131729/). Mr. Brooks - I really loved this one. It's about a man with an alter ego with a desire to murder. (2007) Info (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780571/). Also check out IMDB's Top 250 (http://uk.imdb.com/chart/top). There's a lot of old and foreign movies there but it's definitely worth looking through. | 2010-01-15 21:43:00 Author: Killian ![]() Posts: 2575 |

Letters from Iwo Jima- An incredibly directed war film that actually has a point. Dr. Strangelove (Not that recent but still pretty epic) A timeless Kuprick classic. | 2010-01-16 03:25:00 Author: bonner123 ![]() Posts: 1487 |

Shawshank Redemption Yes! Fantastic movie. Another suggestion: Big Fish. It's a sort of modern fairy-tale type of movie. Very good. | 2010-01-16 16:46:00 Author: comphermc ![]() Posts: 5338 |
Hot Fuzz Son of Rambow Both quite light hearted and very british. But fantastic nontheless. I watched Son Of Rambo a few weeks ago, brilliant film. Try Withnail and I, british comedy, probably my favourite film off all time. | 2010-01-16 17:12:00 Author: GruntosUK ![]() Posts: 1754 |

Very good. haha i came here just to say that! i love that movie mmm as cophermc took my suggestion i guess i would say... I just watch some new movies yesterday. The Road - Viggo Mortensen & Kodi Smit-Mcphee ,A very dark movie, both in content and visuals, not something you would take the kids to see, about a father & son trying to survive in a post apocalyptic earth, where food is scarce and cannibalism is rife, Kodi Smit-McPhee is excellent as the son. The Fantastic Mr Fox -based on a Ronald Dahl children's book ,I was surprised how good this movie was,it's well voiced by the actors playing the various characters, and the stop frame animation is well done, although it can seem a bit stiff/ robotic in some of the long shots,a fun movie.[The owner of the Cider factory looks and acts just like Rupert Murdoch,I had a good chuckle at that] It's Complicated -Meryl Streep, about a divorcee that ends up having a brief affair with her ex husband,Not my cup of tea,but the girlfriend enjoyed it [What is commonly known as a "Chick Flick",sorry female forum members] Pandorum -Dennis Quaid ,about a huge space ship where people are waking out of stasis with very few memories, the ship is partially shut down and they have to resurrect it's power, ludicrous plot, cheap effects, bad script and lousy acting make this a rainy day renteronly when you need to add another disc to get a discount. | 2010-01-16 23:33:00 Author: blackwiggle ![]() Posts: 84 |
Million Dollar Baby - I like the combination o fa boxing-genre mixed with drama, and awesome story. No... i can't say usefull stuff about movies, i'm bad at that, but it sure is an awesome film. ![]() | 2010-01-17 01:02:00 Author: Yarbone ![]() Posts: 3036 |
Right, settled for Son of Rambow last night. Nice little film, the middle section could be better but good nonetheless. Big Fish is next. | 2010-01-17 17:20:00 Author: Syroc ![]() Posts: 3193 |
I watch two new movies yesterday. Sherlock Holmes - It was better than some of the reviews I read of it, and although far fetched ,there were no real lapses in pace or over doing of special effects, quite enjoyable. The Men Who Stare At Goats - George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Jeff Bridges , what a strange movie this one is,it's a story that seems based on different topics from some esoteric magazines, a bit of a mess in structure , but a enjoyable mess, no gut busting laughs but some funny scenes in the training of this strange "New Age" army. | 2010-01-20 00:59:00 Author: blackwiggle ![]() Posts: 84 |
