Lol, and yet again, something based on copyrighted content wins over fantastic, original levels. ^__^ Oh well. Congrats. Although I would have loved to see one of you lbpcentralites win instead.2010-01-15 14:35:00

Technically it shouldn't have been nominated since it was published in 2008, well congrats to DarknessBear. Little Dead Space was the first Great level I played, and it's still pretty good. I still think Post-Apocalyptic should have won though, to me it really stood out the most out of all the others nominated, oh well. Hopefully they make this years Sackies even better.2010-01-15 14:44:00

Very well deserved, one of the best levels i played in LBP, it was made more than a year ago, but i think it was a good idea to involve it in the contest.
It was one of the firsts level to use very good camera, lights and atmospheric effects, it gave many feelings, really well made.

...Nothing to see here...this Sackies thing was broken from the very beginning.
It's impossible to narrow almost 2 millions of level down to one, and put people like koknsun (just to name one of the awesome Japanese creators) out of the competition invalidates the sense of the competition itself.
DeadSpace is a wonderful level, but there are at least 50 levels that are better.
Anyway, congrats to DarknessBear

A moderated level doesn't get removed from the servers (hence causing the need to do a new one), it just gets blocked from being accessed until republishedwithout the 'offending' object.

I'm sure you can easily republish a moderated level even without removing the offending article, just by adding some dark matter somewhere, at least that's what I've heard anyway.

Got to say I am a bit surprised with this one. I didn't hear anyone saying they had voted for it really!

Yeah oldage, I can agree, but it's the Level Of The Year, not the First Level That Impressed Players.
I know that every winner would have left people complaining, but I complain about the initial group of levels.
Imho sack potter by Nuclearfish is better than post apocalyptic, but it has less hype.

This kind of contest is very subjective, some people likes visuals, other looks at gameplay, other prefers style...
It's impossible to say which is the BEST level of the year. You can (hardly) say the best level for a category, like visuals, and here too is very subjective: some people likes realistic things, other prefers innovative things...
Some of my favourite levels are semi-unckowed: i love Japanese style, and there are some creators that i love, like Youkun, that made a One Piece series, very cool, or horiiiii (became famous some time ago), that made some amazing levels.
Surely Little Dead Space isn't really the BEST LEVEL of the Year, but surely it is a really cool level. And yes, it was better if the winner was an original level

That's a very good level for sure! So congratulations to Darknessbear!

Now, as others said, it's based on another game and I think that maybe it's not the best representation of LBP spirit*... as for me this award should represent it a little ...
So sure, there are other levels, maybe more *original, creative and refreshing that deserve this too... IMO

Yesssss!

Didn't you know that?

It was said at the start of the Sackies too (last paragraph)... http://www.littlebigplanet.com/en-gb/news/article/the_sackies_the_first_annual_sackademy_awards/

Because picking a winner from these sets of nominees was so hard, each nominee for each category will automatically be awarded with a Crown for making it that far, and the winner of each award will be immortalised in LittleBigPlanet history as the winner of a Sackie, get a pat on the back, and if they are really lucky, a good-night kiss on the forehead and a cup of warm milk. There may be other rewards too. Intriguing!

I'm thinking of trading in the cup of milk and hopefully extending the kissy side of things. Wonder what I'd get if I let them keep the crown as well...? 2010-01-15 16:56:00

You don't want to get Spaff mad.....

Spaff once kicked a horse in the chin. Its decendants are known today as Giraffes.

Well, there we go then.

It's already been mentioned about LittleDeadSpace being released in 2008, but enough about controversy and subjectivity. Congratulations to ALL the creators who made the shortlist - it's a very worthy achievement.

We can argue about the pros and cons of the merits of such awards, and I'm sure we will, but if there are to be others in the future, I really hope they can be thought through and organised a little more openly by Mm.

But as to the nominated levels, they are all winners.

It did break outside the realm of the game and the community in popularity and impact... if somebody only played LBP once, or a few times when it released, this was the amazing level they played that everyone knew about. So I can see it being the choice, even though it wasn't mentioned much by our small board.2010-01-15 20:46:00

Yeah that makes it unfair for other nominees.

Not at all. The only reason this was called Level of the Year was because in the initial round of voting everyone *****ed about it being called Best Level, so they change the name and people still find nitpicky semantic issues to moan about. There wasn't a level of the year in 2008, so it's entirely fair to allow those levles in.

Anyways, I don't think any of the nominees are going to be too bothered about not winning

Not surprised at all. The fact that anyone can go and vote for this, it was practically a guarantee the most popular level would win. And LittleDeadSpace is the most popular. I think it had the most hearts of any level in LBP (maybe lost when it got modded) So no surprise here.

Not that I don't think it's deserving. Amazing level.

It's also the most well known.

To paraphrase my dad's opinion about the level when I showed it to him over a year ago: It looks good but who wants to play with a pretty picture?

Yeah that makes it unfair for other nominees.

True, but there was never a "Level of the Last 3 months of the year" award ceremony in 2008, so it wouldn't be fair to never give that era a chance to compete.

I was banking on mrsupercomputer's "Zephyr Valley", but I guess I overestimated it's mass appeal and notoriety. In all actuality I should have thought "duh" that something liker Little Dead Space would win... even though you can get stuck at the end if you break the arm that opens the secret room, which would probably get you harpooned nowadays if not quickly resolved. The thing about Little Dead Space that I remember, is on podcasts for gaming sites when LBP was still relatively new, it was the level where all the editors on the shows would talk about and say things like "did you see the Dead Space level?" - and I remember in the now-defunct 1up show's personal Games of the Year mentions from all the editors in 2008, that someone had said "Dead Space was your favorite game of the year? You should just get LBP, and you can play that AND Dead Space" - jokingly, half serious, but a good compliment to the game in a promotional sense.

I still wish H.A.T.E by Voltiare was at least nominated... that level was just truly mind blowing that first month the game was out. First level video "review" I watched, it only previewed the first few rooms, and left the rest a secret to tease you... I had no idea how intense the rest would get, and the openly-visible logic, at the time, was far advanced and informative over what almost everyone else was doing. He should have just called it "Portal" and it would have been mentioned on podcasts too, if it wasn't moderated. Maybe "NOT Portal" would have been a good, sarcastic name.
