//////////////. You make a good point but I believe this is purely subjective and your argument stipulates that to be become a dot you must first prove you are suffiantly capable of forward slashes. Now I would argue the point that maybe its ok to just be a dot. I mean of course that you really don't need the forward slash if you have mastered the art of the full stop. How you reach that point is up to the individual of course. | 2010-01-15 12:11:00 Author: wexfordian ![]() Posts: 1904 |

//////////////. Okay, well it seems to me the OP makes a good point, but has presented it in a convoluted way. My initial thought was to tentatively agree, but having given it a bit more perusal, the internal conflict I experienced is way too deep for a simple post. I can't see this thread surviving, and although I can understand why, I feel it's a shame because this is worth further discussion. ![]() | 2010-01-15 12:24:00 Author: MrsSpookyBuz ![]() Posts: 1492 |
//////////////. the humour embeded in this post is diminished by the ultimate portrayal of the forward slash, the problem is the convaluted understanding of the solidus. The ancient romans used one solidus as a comma/ and two solidus// representing a dash or (-). The two solidus of // started to be used as = and later eveolved into the dash that we use today. | 2010-01-15 12:50:00 Author: robotiod ![]() Posts: 2662 |
Written language has evolved from literal and conceptual representations into sophisticated systems of symbols representing spoken sounds. The first graphic images that evolved into our Western system of writing began with simple shapes that represented a basic vocabulary of objects and concepts. These were Pictograms. Over time, symbols were developed to express more complex objects and concepts. These were Ideograms. The third stage in the evolution of written language is the Phonogram. Phonograms represent either syllables (fa-mi-ly) or basic sounds (f-a-m-i-l-y). What we have here ladies and gentlemen is the next stage of evolution. Dots and slashes. | 2010-01-15 12:56:00 Author: wexfordian ![]() Posts: 1904 |
