Strange Gaming Quirks

Archive: 68 posts

Anything people do while gaming that really annoys you or others, or is just plain abnormal or strange?

This may also apply to board games, as I will always be the top hat, or get really ticked off.
For me, I pace while stuff is loading or move the mouse around all the time.

Or jump. All the time. In game.

I find that I sing quite a lot in online games, especially shooters as I run towards an objective. It's not a specific song - it's more like a high-pitched wail.

I've been teamkilled more than once for it. I can't help it, darn it!(:B

I use humor so people wont notice my awful skills, not that it works....

I like to sing while playing games, no high-pitched wails though

When playing on PS3 or PSP games, over the years I've gotten into the habit of constantly pressing the PS button to check the time/battery level.
I even do it with the analog button on my PS2 now.

Same.

I also keep on pressing X to make the sackboy/ notepad jump fduring LBP loading screens.

Then I always keep jumping across large open plains.

Then, when I'm playing really good JRPGs, I walk around a lot, thinking of different paths the story could have taken :/

I make the piece of paper jump up and down when it says connecting to LBP online.

And I habitually check the status of my trophy collection as I earm them for a particular game. Needless to say, when I finally got my wipeout HD platinum I must have checked it half a dozen times because I was so stoked.

On PC shooters I constantly scroll through the weapons, making me lose my battery power twice as fast. Also, whenever anything's loading I'll pace around the entire house for no reason.2010-01-16 02:06:00

Kids who obviously aren't old enough to own the games they think they are oh so good at. And how they brag in the lobby about how cool they are to their other underage friends, then get a swift beating, and rage quit in a hail of racial abuse and swear words.

And people slapping me on LBP, into a hazard.

I tend to be rather insane when I play online shooters. I have this tendency to keep going after the same ******* who killed me 5 times in a row, only to get killed again.2010-01-16 21:19:00

I'm relieved I'm not the only one. I don't play competitive games that often, but when I do, I tend to sing nursery rhymes repetitively. Just be sure to kill your mic if someone get's annoyed, it's only polite.

I do that too, the controls are really awkward. It was a bit silly of them to expect people to use the d-pad and analog at the same time.

I like dancing around as I play... thank god for wireless controllers.

Also thankfully I haven't really discovered headsets since I curse like a sailor constantly while I play :o I also really like multitasking... while I play video games I like watching youtube on the loading screens.

Also, if someone kills me in game, i go shoot them in the face.

When I play a racing game, I tend to move the controller in the same direction as I'm turning. I don't even know where I picked it up, but I do know that Mario Kart Wii definitely reinforced it

Also, when I'm playing a shooter like MW2, and some annoying piece of crap keeps killing me over and over, I hunt them down until I kill them. And when I finally do, I laugh triumphantly, even though I don't own a mic and they can't hear me >_>

Hmm... I don't know if I have that many common quirks while I'm playing, but the... "quirks"... do tend to show themselves during particularly frustrating games.

Each game gets a different reaction out of me. If I get really fired up, really ****** off, the way I expend the angsty energy is my punching my right leg. Like an old cobbler, my right leg has become resilient, able to take incredible punishment without so much as a smidgen of pain. So I can really wail on it. My fist hurts before my leg ever does. But it helps, and I don't annoy neighbors with crazy screaming (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8SWMAQYQf0#t=0m12s) (language warning).

But again, each game tends to get a different reaction out of me. Lately I've been playing Demon's Souls. The more intense it gets, the more my girlfriend laughs at the things that come out of my mouth.

In this game, you heal up by eating herbs. Your character's pretty freaking leisurely with his herb consumption. In the heat of battle, with your health bar woefully depleted, and a giant demon stomping toward you, your character decides, "hey, I know. I'll just reach into my pocket... let's see... yep, there it is. Now I'll just bring it up toooo my mooouth... Ah! Now to start the chewing part of this procedure!"
Meanwhile, he's frozen solid during the entire god-awful thing, and I'm not kidding when I say that there is a gigantic deadly demon stomping directly towards me with the intension to kill me and eat my soul.

So what do I do? What CAN I do?? I frantically command the tv screen: "Eat it! Eat it! Eat! Eat it!!!"
What would YOU do?? The same, I would venture to say.

- I'm probably the only guy who still t-bags on MW2.
- I always waste my grenades first before I shoot... for some odd reason.
- Leave it to me to be the moron to get trapped in boxes in LBP.
- I tend to drop out suddenly without saying anything (i.e. dinner, choir, etc.)
- I change my costume every 4-5 minutes or so on LBP.

Oh, and
- I get very SUPERHYPER-active on a blog, then the computer crashes. Then my dad blames it on me when, later, we find out HE was the one who accidentally uploaded a virus. Now I'm back... :kz:

It hurts my finger though! xD

You have to like put it at a weird angle and press the buttons with the side of your finger, it doesn't feel natural

Hahaha, my dad used to do that! But he did it on the PS1, way way before the motion, so I have no idea why he did it... he'd almost twist the controller to point the buttons at the ground to 'help with steering' O.O

I guess I do the press ps button all the time, but I do it to check for messages, even if I've been watching the TV the entire time since I last pressed it and... I think I move the sticks in circles when something's loading

Specific to individual games:

When playing Bioshock I always mutter what the splicers say 'Jesus loves me this I know...' or groan like a big daddy .

Also when I'm playing Arma 2 I constantly look around even when in friendly territor; just gotta love having a free camera when every single fps out there is fixed.

Then in any game when i kill an annoying bot/person a simple 'Aha yer *insult*' never goes amiss .

I have this weird reflex in my hand that lets me mash buttons at super fast speeds. I use that sometimes, like in the "Pokey Pummel" minigame in Mario Party 7 or the underwater pipes with rushing water in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.2010-01-20 18:57:00

I can honestly say that I don't do too much...I sigh at all the cheap jerks in MW2...and I also have sit on the edge of my bed. I can't lay down when I play, i have to sit up. If I need to run from an opponent, sometimes i turn the controller to move faster.

not too bad compared to others..

I HATE screen watchers. I also hate excuse-makers. I had a friend round the other day, and we played UT3. I won every single match, and he's all like "Yeah but I fell off twice" (When I beat him -2 to 4 in Duel) and "Yeah but you had better bots on your team."2010-01-21 22:01:00

When i'm not yelling at the game sometimes i like to hum my own theme tune
Like playing demon souls earlier, humming some epic music and killing enemies to the beat ^^

I'm also a bit over the top when i'm playing games alone, like i got attacked by a dragon earlier on the same game i pretty much screamed and was shouting all the way back to the beginning of the level!

Demon Souls brings out the best in me

It bugs me to no end when I notice strange glitches, and thus can't focus on the game. I still get distracted by the fact that RCF2: ACIT says i've beaten it 47 times, while in reality it's more like six. (And two of those it shouldn't know about, my game data got corrupted.)2010-01-22 17:14:00

MW2 makes me mad. I can handle dying and what not. The game being so unbalanced makes me mad. And all the noob weapons. And no dedicated servers for PC. The fact its so noob friendly. The new perk system.

I regret buying MW2, the game seriously needed a beta.

Does this apply to fourms aswell?

The main one for me is the left d-pad rewind.... I've done stange things in other games (like FPS) trying to rewind... XD

Same simmilar thing goes for forums. My mouse has extra buttons that can be programmed to do things.
One of them hits the F-series key (I'm not sure what number) that refreshes the current page on firefox.

I'm so used to refreshing forums I try to do it on just about anything. D:

/Nurd-izm

You deffinatly know your doing to much of these things when stuff gets like this. XD

Does this go here?
When I rest my hands, they go to positions of the buttons on a PS3 remote. i.e. my right hand: index finger over R1, thumb over center of shape buttons and other fingers in position to hold the remote. (mirrored on other side)

Also when I mess up while drawing, instead of reaching for a rubber (eraser) my left thumb pushes an imaginary 'left' for LBP's rewind.

Do you have any weird obsessions while playing certain games?

E.g. You brain tells you you MUST cut down every blade of grass while playing Zelda. (I know mine does )

While I'm playing Tetris, if there is a space in my blocks that a certain type of piece will exactly fit into, I save it for that piece

What about you?

In games that let you pick pocket, I absolutely MUST pick pocket every single NPC I run across. In games that let you steal from a home, I steal as much as I can carry everytime I enter a new house. I don't know what that says about my character.

I save obsessively. Like every couple of minutes or rooms or battles, depending on the type of game. If I'm ever getting hurt I almost always reload, in games that encourage stealth I always reload if I'm discovered.

I always try to save as much ammo and/or "special items" in games as I can, to the point where the game is over and I never used anything!

(This is emberrasing.)

I play the Peace Walker demo in silence. In other words, I have headphones on me, so when I can't hear nothing but the game, I go silent myself, like Snake. In fact, last time I was at a public place (park) I was jogging, and in the same time playing. Well it got to a point where I acted like Snake. If he ran, I ran. He crouches, I crouch. He get's someone in a strangle hold, I shake my PSP. When I finished the mission, I looked up and saw a couple of people eyeing me almost in shock. At that point on, I never going to take my PSP jogging ever again. EVER!
