In need of some quick water help!

Archive: 9 posts

Hey guys,

Everytime I use the water tool I set my water height and then come to test the level the water is never staying at that height. It always takes a few seconds to fill up or sometimes it doesn't fill up at all. Also how do I create a floating boat that is drivable?

Please excuse these questions if they seems silly but I haven't been on LBP for a rather long time now. I returned when the POTC level pack and Water where released.

Can't say I've ever noticed this problem but have you tried unpausing for a second or two in create mode to check the water level before pausing again and then going into play mode?

I'm assuming you're setting the water height from the tools menu and not with a water switch.

i guess youre using the GWO? if thats the case, theres a setting when you tweak it that allows you to choose how fast the water rises/lowers. As for the boat, you just need to keep experimenting.2010-01-14 12:13:00

I was setting the height with the Water switch. Is this incorrect to do? Is there an easy way to just go in to create mode and create a level with a set water level? Sorry again for all the questions.2010-01-14 13:45:00

Yes, as I said before you need to set it from the tools menu on the same page as global lighting. Scroll down and it's under the lighting settings. You can set the water level, colour, amount of bits in the water, tap sounds etc.

You only need to use the water switches when you want to alter the settings at other points in the level.

As for a boat, use a non metal material and stick a rocket on it. I've seen a paddle boat too! Just play around a bit and I'm sure you'll find what works best. I prefer to have the rocket below water, but it works above the line as well!2010-01-14 14:54:00

As mistervista mentions, just set the water level via the last page of the tool bag, same place the lighting, fog, and color balance are.

For boats... yes, you need to experiment. However here are some tips I have learned.

For example.. let's say our boat is simply a rectangle of polystyrene, it will float quite evenly. Once you try to add anything to the bottom like an outboard motor. If that motor mount for the rocket is also made of polystyrene, the back end will rise up and push the back of the boat up. If you change the motor mount to a metal, it will behave a bit better, but cause the back end to drag down a bit due to the extra weight. So to compensate you can add some weighted ballast to the front of the boat to help even out the weight.

With more complicated boat designs, you may have to think of ballast chambers of sorts as well as keep experimenting with materials to help you get to what you are wanting.

Hope this helps!

When you set your water level with the switch, there's a timer in the config panel for the switch that indicates how long it takes for the water to rise to that level. By using the switch and not the global water settings, your level starts with no water, then activating the switch causes the level to fill up at the predetermined rate by the switch.
