Deflectorball by Nuclearfish

Deflectorball (Multiplayer Only)Nuclearfish From the creator of not-much-other-than-survival-challenges comes something that is in fact not a survival challenge. It's a competitve multiplayer minigame for 2-4 players, where you each control a 'deflector' to bounce electrical enegery balls away from your goal and into your opponents goal to eliminate them. The last player standing is the winner! The level is set in a spacehip sort of thing, with a square arena and four goals, one on each side. Each player chooses a colour (blue, yellow, red or green) and moves their deflector up and down or left and right (depending which side they are on) to defend their goal. Balls are fired randomly into the arena from the corners, and if you let one in your goal you lose some health. Let in too many and your deflector will explode. However, it isn't called a deflector for nothing - press R1 when a ball comes into contact to deflect the ball back across the arena towards your opponents! It takes a bit of practise, but once you get the hang of it, it's a lot of fun. Other awesome things this level includes: Instant replayability - no waiting around for ages to get started, just pick your colour, grab R1 and the game starts immediately! A random music changer featuring six different music tracks, so each time you play you don't have to listen to the same thing over and over and over again. Unless you're really unlucky. No water! Yes, really - there isn't a single drop of it. I even considered putting NO REAL WATER in the level title. A dynamic moving background, featuring stars, stars and more stars. A scoring system which doesn't work! No matter who wins, the host always gets all the points. Of course, it doesn't really matter as it only affects who the camera will zoom in on at the scoreboard, but it is rather weird. A thermometer almost filling the close-to-halfway stage! There's room for me to make another level next to it if I wanted. http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=11641 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=11643 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=11644 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=11642 Tips for getting the most out of the level: You can play with 2 players, but 3 or 4 is much more fun. If there are just 2 of you, choose either green vs yellow or red vs blue. Other combinations still work, but these work best. Pay attention to the generators in the corners. They'll light up, spin and make a funny noise just before shooting a ball. The two generators opposite your goal are the only ones that'll fire towards you. To deflect a ball, you need to wait until the ball comes into contact with your deflector, and you only need to press R1 once. Rapidly pressing it won't work, and will likely either break the ball or only deflect it a short distance. Like all good games, there's a technique to doing it right and you need to master it if you want to do well. When balls come into contact with your deflector, they'll stop. You can then move out the way and they'll stay there, so there's no need to immediately deflect balls back at your oppoenets. This means you can use sneaky tactics - stop a ball, wait until another is heading for your oppoenet, then deflect it into their goal as they move to stop the other one. As you'll probably be able to tell, it's a jetpack you use to move, so hold X to go faster, and whatever you do, don't press O or you'll lose the jetpack and won't be able to get it back. | 2010-01-13 20:47:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |
Going to try it! Reminds me a minigame of Crash Bash... XD I played it maaaaany years ago, so i can't remember how that mini game worked, but the visual was the same: there was a space background too! (anyway, this is what i remind XD) Wow, really NO REAL WATER?? OMGOMG!!11!! | 2010-01-13 20:50:00 Author: Dante95 Posts: 504 |
Wow - this looks cool. I wish I had a PS3 right now (or in 45 minutes ) | 2010-01-13 20:55:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
The level is now published! Going to try it! Reminds me a minigame of Crash Bash... (anyway, this is what i remind XD) That is what I based it on. I think was called Ballistix or something. I remember it last year and though it would be good to see if it was possible on LBP. Turns out it isn't because the best you can do is make balls from pink floaty that slow down and stop rather than bounce, but I've still managed to get it pretty similar. | 2010-01-13 21:22:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |

Thanks for helping test it by the way, and thanks to everyone else who did. You still haven't played it with 4 players though, it'#s much much better . | 2010-01-14 10:48:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |
That is an awesome level Nuclearfish. I didn't play the one you said it's based on but this one is really fun in a group. Gets competitive and works great. Lots of fun. Thanks for the experience and I'll be back to check it out again I'm sure. | 2010-01-18 01:45:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Fantastic level! Hearted and five stars. This is something I could play over and over. | 2010-01-18 01:52:00 Author: warlord_evil Posts: 4193 |
This is way too underrated, simply outstanding. I just hope that as a multiplayer level it'll start getting more recognition. I've already forced many of my friends to heart it. lol. Great work on visuals, gameplay, sound, everything. My only complaint is if two people who aren't facing each have to fight, it can take forever. You mentioned you had a lot of the thermo left, so I really think you should touch up on making more than just one generator at a time shoot, at later parts of the level. :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart | 2010-01-18 21:06:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |

Great work on visuals, gameplay, sound, everything. Thanks for the feedback - I'm glad you all like it! My only complaint is if two people who aren't facing each have to fight, it can take forever. You mentioned you had a lot of the thermo left, so I really think you should touch up on making more than just one generator at a time shoot, at later parts of the level. Thanks for the suggestion. There is a way I probably could do that, but the problem is that it doesn't really work if more than one generator shoots at a time, or if they shoot faster. The chances of two balls colliding in the middle of the arena are much greater, and you end up with a load of them stuck there without being able to reach them. It's the problem with using pink floaty which slows down and stops... if only there was a material that moved at a constant speed and bounced off objects, everything would be so much easier. | 2010-01-18 23:38:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |
I played it with 2 others and it's just a fantastic experience, one of my favorite things about you as an author is that you are very versatile in the levels you create. From Survival Challenges, to Christmas and Harry Potter, and now this masterpiece! You have definitely built up a great collection of levels. There's not much to say other than it's a great level fun level, it was only 3 of us playing and it was still a blast, I can only imagine how much fun it is with 4 players. The level was a bit short though, it kinda left me wanting more, either way I'll be back many more times so sorry if I ******* up your heart-to-play ratio. 5 Stared and a Heart. | 2010-01-19 01:12:00 Author: TheFirstAvenger Posts: 787 |
