Do you like the upgrade?

Archive: 57 posts

I thought I'd make a poll to save Confused Cartman a job. Taking all into account, the loss of exp, the smoother running of the website, new look... etc.
Do you like the upgrade?

Too soon to tell, Draden. CC just completed the initial update and is slowly piecing it all back together.
We are basically in a standard 4.0 forum right now except all our posts are still intact, he just booted up sort of speak.

So yeah, in short, too soon to tell and too soon for a thread like this.

There isn't anything to like at the moment, we still need to wait for all the old features and a new theme to be added.2010-01-13 10:41:00

But is it worth trying to fix something that wasn't already broken.
You could argue it wasn't because we've got a pretty bland website now.
But you could also argue that it could turn out improved and get rid of the crashing pages.

I know what you mean but its kind of a first impressions kind of thing.
CC reckons that he should be able to get the gimmicks back on so fingers crossed but I reckon we would've all been fine waiting.
Watch the results of this poll change as more of the gimmicks come back

It really confused me this morning, and the search function doesn't seem to work... this is the same problem LBPF has after switching to this format. Say you search "Ccubbage" - only posts made after the change will appear in results, and if not, then all references to the name or word prior to the change do not appear in search results at all.

EDIT: Nevermind... I tried searching at 3 AM, and it's now 10 AM when I posted this, and I must pull my foot out of my mouth - search functions fine now.

So other than that... it looks sleek and lean, and fits well with my browser theme lol I think the banners we have up top need some color adjustment though, seem a little fat now, and maybe a nice blue border to highlight them would be fitting.

At the moment? Not really. I wasn't even sure whether I'm on the right site earlier because everyone is using the same... /dislikes pre-made website stuff a la vbulettin
Needs more LBP pictures so I know I'm on the right site. No doubt they will be added soon.

Well we are fine waiting. It's far better to get the site back up and running in a reduced state than wait for everything to be added back in and leave the site down for however long that takes. Remember that the site "staff" put in all this effort for your benefit completely free of charge. If you're major complaint is that the site is bland then surely you realise that is a temporary thing? Bearing that in mind, what does it matter?

At the end of the day, the worth of this forum is in the people that frequent it and the backlog of valuable resources. That's all it is. The interface is secondary consideration. Over time we will see CC refine the interface, both visually and functionally to get it back to where it was before.

I see no problem here at all.

Oh thank god!
I thought this was the new design! (Phew)

The site seems to be much faster etc. But I don't think I can completely like it until a proper new theme is added, this one is just too.. bland.

I voted 'A Bit'

EDIT: I remember that layout ARD!

vBExperience is gone for a while. As soon as a 4.0 update is released (it is supposedly being worked on) we will update it and re-enable it.

I like the new touches, like thread icons that show where you posted, and quick reply with quote. The new temporary layout isn't very pretty, but it's a lot more compact at the top, saves me scrolling.

Too bad the first new post button is broken, hopefully that'll get fixed soon. Other than that, the only thing I really miss is the thanks button.

Is there a custom skin option?

How about making the borders and stuff black and blue like before? This pastel "grey-blue" is too cold and doesn't feel LBP at all. We are like a StarTrek forum right now or cuisine.

You should also make the horrible Vbulletin banner disappear in priority. When you enter the website it's like you fall one of those free forum templates...

I don't have a PSP but you should be able to block images on a mobile device's browser, or in fact any browser. If not then I recommend using a good browser until the mobile theme comes back into effect (if it does).

At the end of the day I think we're back to where we were in the first place so you can't say that it's worthwhile because cc has changed the background, we still haven't got exp and I have to reach my forums the longway round because the system can't find my articles... Am I right or am I right?

Jeez, you really have got the hump over this, haven't you? As far as I can tell it's still an ongoing update so the interface will be gradually improved as CC has always done, by listening to the community and responding as quickly as he can - may I remind you again that the site staff do all this hard work for free. CC talked about the improved features that come with the update so as time goes on we will start to see the benefits of that.

As for navigation.... Subscriptions, New Posts and the top level forum views all work exactly as before, so I'm not entirely sure what part of the navigation is causing you problems. Have I missed something in all my months here that was faster than these methods.

And as for XP, I never really saw it as a key feature or that it had any real worth so personally I don't see how it matters.
